How the hell do people clean bathroom only once a week?!

Pinkbabe1 · 01/09/2016 21:05

I'm genuinely interested here because I've read many a MN thread of ways in which to save time at home and almost always, people say clean the bathroom once a week! Now, I clean my bathroom everyday and even doing that the amount of scum I clean away each day surely would be unhygienic after a whole week? It leaves me baffled, I'm genuinely interested to know if the people that clean once a week have really dirty bathrooms by the end of it?! To put into perspective I thoroughly wipe the sink, toilet and bath surround - spray the bath and tiles and wash off before bleaching the toilet and wiping the floor which takes all of 10 mins. How do people get away with it?!

I hoover my bath out once a month as DH & I haven't used it for years and it gets dusty ........

Katarzyna79 · 02/09/2016 19:55

OP im clean freak but I don't do my ensuite everyday its sparkling. 2-3 times a week is enough, sink daily because we use it for ablutions so needs to be clean. but the most dirt on sink is toothpaste kids thought to squirt out liberally. all the kids and me and my husband use the ensuite.

The mainbathroom is for the elders I care for really they are so gross I don't want to make you vomit, but lets just say I check that bathroom after every meal, and most days its cleaned at least twice thoroughly, its really bad. If I know we are having guests ill go over it some more. if theyre unexpected guests ill let them use the ensuite.

when do you get the time to clean it thoroughly everyday OP? i'm forced to clean main bathroom more than once daily, and I have honestly cried cleaning it because its so often doesn't seem to end.elders have thought theyd do their business half all over the toilet and the other half on the floor as soon as I finished cleaning up, that's my shitty life.

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 02/09/2016 19:59

i just don't wash my kids therefore nothing to clear up. We are proper minging! Grin

MerchantofVenice · 02/09/2016 21:51

This is more like it! Glad to see the tide(mark) has turned. Who really gives a fuck as long as there isn't actual filth everywhere?!

dangerrabbit · 02/09/2016 21:55

Our cleaner cleans our bathroom fort nightly
Hth

pleasemothermay1 · 02/09/2016 21:55

Because I have 2 small children and Saturday is the only day oh can relive me and I can get it done last time it took me 5 hours as I had to keep stopping and then had to abandon the whole thing as dd couldn't wait for the bathroom to dry a promptly weed on the carpet

mixety · 02/09/2016 22:50

Our bathroom gets cleaned once every two weeks. It is therefore rarely sparkly clean, but OTOH not visibly dirty either. It probably helps that the whole thing is a delightful seventies plum shade that we haven't got around to changing yet. A white suite and white files would probably show up the dirt more.

Funko · 02/09/2016 23:17

Grin at this thread still going.

I've still not cleaned my bathroom or hoovered/dusted anywhere Grin

Marynary · 02/09/2016 23:48

Unless your family are very dirty, spit toothpaste everywhere and piss all over the floor, I can't imagine why it would be necessary to clean the bathroom every day.

I wouldn't be surprised if the chemicals people are spraying everywhere are more damaging to health than the bacteria they are so concerned about.

Bitofacow · 03/09/2016 16:36

Marynary have you been to my house??
I've had the piss on the floor conversation but sadly no luck.

Funko · 03/09/2016 18:17

I cleaned, dusted, mopped and hoovered my entire downstairs (ahem) today AND cleaned the bathroom. still need to hoover the stairs, landing, bedrooms and have a good bedroom sort out, but still..

Can I have my cleaning badge please? Grin

Lweji · 03/09/2016 19:08

I'll pass on my badge to my cleaner, although in two days I haven't spotted anything that actually needed cleaning in the bathroom.

LagunaBubbles · 03/09/2016 19:16

Are you the same poster with major health anxieties?

MyDressIsInferiorBlue · 03/09/2016 22:57

I think your problem is you don't do it as you go along, so you're getting unnecessary scum. So:

  • When you've had a shower, quick rinse round tiles/screen and squeegee off - takes under 1 min = no scum left. - if you leave it, its a big cleaning job later.

  • when you've had a bath, drain all water then give bath a quick rinse around = no scum left. - If you don't then it will need a proper clean once dried.

  • washing hands - if there's any marks you rinse at the time - I.e. just pour a bit of water on it from the running tap = no dirt spots. - If you leave them then they will actually need properly cleaning off instead.

  • toothbrushing - rinse sink immediately = no toothpaste left to dry on. - If you don't you'll have vile dried on toothpaste that requires actually cleaning.

  • toilet - clean marks as they happen.

Etc.
.
Its not about having low standards, its about not creating big jobs by spending a couple of seconds doing prevention.

FYI to show I don't have low standards - I vacuum at least once per day (lounge 2-3times), which is much more than most. I don't like dirt.

Passthecake30 · 03/09/2016 23:01

Mine probably gets cleaned every 3 weeks Blush. I do throw some bleach/loo cleaner down the loo every few days and that's it. We don't have scum around our bath...we have a water softener so maybe that helps, or maybe my eyes are deceiving me?!

MenMust · 03/09/2016 23:04

Once a week in our house is enough. There is only the two of us though. We do a thorough clean.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 03/09/2016 23:31

Hmm I'm a bit taken aback by all this throwing about of bleach. I never bleach my loos. They get cleaned once a week with wipes, bit of a token scrub with the loo brush and that's it. They look clean, they smell clean. No one is drinking out of the toilet bowl. What's with all the bleach?

We have three bathrooms, one downstairs loo and six people. Someone uses a bath maybe once a month, we all shower daily. Once a week clean is enough to keep our bathrooms pristine.

celeste83 · 03/09/2016 23:37

I use bleach to kill germs. By the very nature of its use the loo bowl is inherently unhygienic.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 03/09/2016 23:43

Indeed Celeste but the loo bowl is flushed frequently and scrubbed on a regular basis and no one is drinking out of it. How much does it really matter if a few germs are lurking beneath the waterline between scrubs? They are not going to jump out of the water and attack your arse or anything.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 03/09/2016 23:44

Posted too soon

It just really bothers me, the amount of unesscessary chemicals we are chucking into our water system.

celeste83 · 03/09/2016 23:50

Millions of germs nasty one like ecoli and viruses. The toilet flush does not fush the germs down the loo though. If anything it sprays it all over the loo seat and around the bathroom.

HeCantBeSerious · 03/09/2016 23:57

Close the lid to flush then, and don't eat your dinner off/out of it.

You do know the bugs are becoming increasingly resistant to the shit you're throwing at it.......

FrameyMcFrame · 04/09/2016 00:00

Oh but how much bleach do you get through?

celeste83 · 04/09/2016 00:03

No we don't eat our dinner off it but we all need to use it. Its just basic hygiene.

HeCantBeSerious · 04/09/2016 00:04

Try this, Celeste and other obsessive bleachers.
