To be thoroughly bewildered by the success of Chris De Burgh?

Just watching him being interviewed by Aled on Weekend and now performing live.

I have always found him to be thoroughly unattractive in a slimy creepy kind of way, he has zero charisma, his voice is weak and warbly and really not pleasant to listen to and his song writing is beyond dull.

Yet he's unbelievably rich and successful and on his 21st album.

Confused

Who buys his stuff? Shock who goes to his concerts? Someone must! I just don't get it. It's making me irrationally irritated to think that there are people out there who actually like him and love his work. It's just not right. IANBU. You know it.

I like his music.....so nyer nyer (sticks out tongue) Angry

GrimDamnFanjo · 28/08/2016 09:21

Wasn't it that Lady in Red that made him a mega star. Dreadful song.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/08/2016 09:22

I sometimes confuse him with Daniel O Donnell 😳

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 28/08/2016 09:23

Oh God he's at it again now singing Lady in red.

I fecking hate that song but hearing him bleat it live is even worse. And he's just standing there all limp and drippy, not an ounce of charisma in him. Uuugh.

If he was autitioning on X Factor he wouldn't get a single yes. He'd be one of the sad/ embarrassing/deluded people we laugh at or feel faintly sorry for.

Shut yer geggie, OP.

A Spaceman came travelling is a seminal xmas song.

electricflyzapper · 28/08/2016 09:26

I get his lack of common appeal and charisma.
But you are wrong about his voice and song writing ability. He is far far more than Lady in Red. His songs are complex, deep, soul searching and beautiful (mainly) and seeing him sing live was truly one of the highlights of my life.

cardibach · 28/08/2016 09:30

I wouldn't go as far as that, electric, but he puts on an entertaining show. I enjoyed it. And yes, *Lady in Red' is probably his worst song.

VanillaSugar · 28/08/2016 09:32

YADNBU

I hate cdb - and now I have his bloody awful songs in my head. Thanks a bunch Angry

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 28/08/2016 09:32

I like him.

Daniel O'Donnel, as mentioned up thread, is the one who bewilders me. I don't understand why he is so famous and adored.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 28/08/2016 09:34

I'm now trying to download Lady in Red to my iPhone as I type this.

If loving CdB is wrong, I don't wanna be right!

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 28/08/2016 09:35

He would definitely have a limp handshake and clammy hands.

Cardibach- I live a sheltered life Blush

Very - yeah Man! Hallelujah!

YvaineStormhold · 28/08/2016 09:37

He shagged the family nanny after writing this song about his wife, IIRC.

And wrote a song about her called something like 'Long Hair, Blue Jeans'.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 28/08/2016 09:37

Daniel O'Donnel, as mentioned up thread, is the one who bewilders me.

Och, but he does sing some nice hymns.

In the words of the great Tim Minchin, some of the songs have nice chords but the lyrics are dodgy.

I wouldn't go so far as to but any DoD toons though.

Cliff Richard I really don't understand.

insancerre · 28/08/2016 09:37

Add him to the list of mediocrity
Along with
Bryan Adams
Billy Joel
Bruce Springsteen
Cliff Richard
Daniel O donnel
Barry mani low
Elton John
I'm sure some people must like that sort of music but I don't understand it

Imscarlet · 28/08/2016 09:37

There is a new kid on the block in Ireland to take over the reins from Chris and Wee Daniel. His name is Nathan Carter, he sings country and western and he is completely non-threatening and a big hit with the tweens. Look up 'rock me mamma like a wagon wheel'.

x2boys · 28/08/2016 09:37

Horses for courses and all that I,m not paticularly keen on Madonna and i dont think her voice is great neither did i think David Bowie was a good singer ,but clearly millions of people dont agree with me.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 28/08/2016 09:38

Yeah, I bet he's really glad he missed the X Factor experience Confused.

He's dull and a bit of a limp lettuce but better than the dross trying to get famous on that Simon Cowell shitfest.

Oncandystripedlegs · 28/08/2016 09:39

There is a fast food van near me called Chris de Burger ... I think they serve lady in red sauce . It always makes me chuckle when I see it .

electricflyzapper · 28/08/2016 09:42

Yeah he snagged the nanny. And his wife forgave him. Go figure.

Not sure what that had to do with his musical ability.

The Beatles were smashed out of their brains and the rolling Stones slept with anyone and everyone and have no brains left, but no one cites those things as evidence of their lack of talent.

YvaineStormhold · 28/08/2016 09:43

Bruce Springsteen???????

In the same category as CdB????!??!

Shock Shock ShockShock

How very dare you!

Well, that's me fucked then. There goes at least 3/4 of my iPod shuffle staples.

YvaineStormhold · 28/08/2016 09:45

Nowt to do with his musical ability.

I was just shooting the breeze and passing idle gossip while having a lie in on a Sunday morning.

I shall punish myself forthwith by listening to Crispy Turd

GreatFuckability · 28/08/2016 09:46

He sounds like a sheep being kicked.
