To be thoroughly bewildered by the success of Chris De Burgh?

Just watching him being interviewed by Aled on Weekend and now performing live.

I have always found him to be thoroughly unattractive in a slimy creepy kind of way, he has zero charisma, his voice is weak and warbly and really not pleasant to listen to and his song writing is beyond dull.

Yet he's unbelievably rich and successful and on his 21st album.

Confused

Who buys his stuff? Shock who goes to his concerts? Someone must! I just don't get it. It's making me irrationally irritated to think that there are people out there who actually like him and love his work. It's just not right. IANBU. You know it.

Sorry but you can't put Billy or Bruce, or Elton for that matter into ANY category or list that contains Chris De Burgh. I won't have it.

My DH also has very questionable musical tastes and even he doesn't like him

F ing he'll he's put it on speaker phone.

electricflyzapper · 28/08/2016 10:02

Oh Bruce Springsteen. OK. Um, I don't know. I am not in the business of slagging off other people's musical taste but I am not sure I would appreciate a playlist. Tbh, I really don't know his music. Born in the USA is about all I know. Did he do dancing in the dark or was that someone else?

VanillaSugar · 28/08/2016 10:04

I'd put Joe Dolce in the same category, but not Elton. Elton wrote some bloody good songs and no one can cover them properly, particularly X factor contestents.

electricflyzapper · 28/08/2016 10:04

He still plays Patricia the Stripper live Scottish. It is still great fun.

YvaineStormhold · 28/08/2016 10:05

He did those two, yes, but they aren't anywhere near his best stuff.

Have a listen to Thunder Road, Brothers Under The Bridge, Highway Patrol Man, Atlantic City, Secret Garden, Born to Run, 10th Avenue Freeze Out and Sad Eyes.

Just for starters Smile

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 28/08/2016 10:06

He did dancing in the dark, yes.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 28/08/2016 10:06

Streets of Philadelphia.

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 28/08/2016 10:08

Hang on... So you don't love Don't Pay the Ferryman? ??
??????

Also, leave Cliff alone. You people are clearly NOT wired for sound. Hmm

YvaineStormhold · 28/08/2016 10:08

Ooh yes. Philadelphia is brilliant.

And Badlands. And Racing In The Street.

Oh, just everything. Love him.

YvaineStormhold · 28/08/2016 10:08

I love Wired For Sound Blush

IloveJudgeJudy · 28/08/2016 10:08

I'm so with you, OP. Luckily I missed him on TV this morning. I can't stand him at any price. I agree, he also makes my skin crawl. If any of his songs come on I have to turn them off, especially Lady in Red.

Also agree about The Boss. I've seen him twice. He's fantastic live. I'd never seen that picture of him when he was very young. Lush

YvaineStormhold · 28/08/2016 10:09

And Carrie Blush Blush

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 28/08/2016 10:09

Waiting on a Summer's Day, love that song.

YvaineStormhold · 28/08/2016 10:10

It's one hell of a pic, is it not, Judy?

Passes many an idle hour in this house, I can tell you...

YvaineStormhold · 28/08/2016 10:11

Aw, I saw him bring a kid up on stage and let him sing more or less all of Waiting On A Summer Day, stayclassy.

He then went into the audience, accepted a proffered pint and downed it in one.

Waddaguy.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 28/08/2016 10:12

Yvaine , he's a gem, true fact!

lougle · 28/08/2016 10:13

I love a spaceman came travelling. It gives me goosebumps. I first heard it when my DD's special school used it in their Christmas play. Their Christmas plays are so unlike mainstream Christmas plays, where the token child with SN is often shoved on to stage from the wings then whisked off. Everyone gets iconic parts and Mary and Joseph are played by the children with the most profound SN. His song gave such a magical atmosphere.

electricflyzapper · 28/08/2016 10:13

Nice video link scottish.

ShelaghTurner · 28/08/2016 10:13

Springsteen puts on one hell of a show for a 67 yo. His energy is incredible, he doesn't stand still for a moment.

FinallyHere · 28/08/2016 10:13

Patricia the Stripper

Capricorn76 · 28/08/2016 10:14

I can't stand CDB and particularly 'lady in red' which reminds me of Sarah Ferguson as it was apparently her favourite song.

LineyReborn · 28/08/2016 10:15

I saw Chris de Burgh live at Newcastle City Hall before he was proper famous, in his Saladin-Crusader days. They were giving out free tickets in the student union and a few of us thought 'why not?'

It was a bloody good show and he sang his little heart out.

YvaineStormhold · 28/08/2016 10:16

I heard quite a nice story about The Boss on Radio 2 the other day.

Apparently someone saw Bono in a restaurant somewhere (was only half listening at this point) and asked a guy who seemed to be with the group Bono was with to get his autograph for him, which he did.

When the autograph hunter asked for his bill, the waiter informed him it had been paid. The guy asked, "Did Bono pay my bill?" to which the waiter explained no, the other guy had - the one he'd asked to get the autograph of him.

It was Bruce Springsteen Grin
