Just watching him being interviewed by Aled on Weekend and now performing live.

I have always found him to be thoroughly unattractive in a slimy creepy kind of way, he has zero charisma, his voice is weak and warbly and really not pleasant to listen to and his song writing is beyond dull.

Yet he's unbelievably rich and successful and on his 21st album.

Confused

Who buys his stuff? Shock who goes to his concerts? Someone must! I just don't get it. It's making me irrationally irritated to think that there are people out there who actually like him and love his work. It's just not right. IANBU. You know it.

Yes, ludog. His daughter is v well known in Ireland on the Z-list envelope opening scene. She's a Deliciously Ella type with a healthy eating blog / book. She generally prances about like a show pony. Lovely looking girl, though, without all of the hair & make-up (which she wouldn't leave the house without).

But she did her career no favours a few years ago by doing a boob shoot for German Playboy. The cover billed her as "Chris De Burgh's Daughter" (he's big in Germany) which was beyond creepy... Don't know why she did it, as she's a well educated girl. And could have done anything after winning Miss World. Shame, really...

Imscarlet · 28/08/2016 10:59

There's no show like a joe show Wink

powershowerforanhour · 28/08/2016 11:01

I don't care for Daniel's music but I like his road trip TV show with Majella. Majella is GAS

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 28/08/2016 11:09

Chris de burgh is the soundtrack to my sex life!

REALLY??? Shock

I would have thought he was more of a walking advert for celibacy myself. Can't think of anything more likely to put me off a shag.

Neil Diamond is a singer - song writing GOD and I can't believe anyone could even mention his name as an example of other people you don't hate alongside CdB. Shock

Honestly, some of you are a bitter disappointment to me.

Neil Diamond wrote Daydream Believer and Pleasant Valley Sunday for the Monkees.

For that alone he deserves God status.

RuggerHug · 28/08/2016 11:17

I've heard tell there was no show like a Joe show but....I don't know, I just can't....unless you count the duet with Dustin Grin

GiddyOnZackHunt · 28/08/2016 11:28

Yy to the gloriousness of Neil Diamond too.

ForalltheSaints · 28/08/2016 11:32

I think that mediocrity and dullness in music was part of the reaction in the 1980s to all the conflict and other difficult/bad things going on. Which is really when Chris De Burgh and some of the other MOR singers came to prominence and sold by the bucket loads. People maybe wanted a refuge from all the nastiness and conflict going on.

Nellyphants · 28/08/2016 11:33

I went to see joe once Rugger 'for a laugh'. when I was stAying with sil. At the end of the night I was up at the stage practically throwing myself on it, oh me oh myGrin

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 28/08/2016 11:36

CdB - just noooooooooo.

TSSDNCOP · 28/08/2016 11:42

Only a man called Christopher de Burgh could rhyme dahnce and romahnce.

Sits on the Bruce bench with Elton and Billy on shuffle.

cardibach · 28/08/2016 12:14

I think the problem with that rhyme is the long a (ah sound). In my accent, with short vowels, dance and romance do rhyme. The song's still shit though.

Willow2016 · 28/08/2016 13:33

I love Patricia the Stripper, he does it great live. Saw him live twice and he puts on a great show.

Yes I used to love his music (still do when I get the chance) Dont get time to listen to much these days, must buy a 'ye olde record player' and get them out Shock Got a few of his albums and the songs all tell a story. L.I.R doesnt really compare to his album songs, 'Say Goodbye to it all' is haunting and there are many more haunting, funny, love and life songs. 'spaceman' always give me goosebumps at Xmas.

Didnt particularly like his morals, what he did to his wife but it seems to be a common trait with the rich and famous, its his music I like not his private life!

Dont care what anyone else likes, I like a huge range of music from Metallica to Man Tran. Whatever floats your boat.

seaviewer · 28/08/2016 14:12

Surprised no ones mentioned the weak voiced and boring Phil Collins.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 28/08/2016 14:13

Only a man called Christopher de Burgh could rhyme dahnce and romahnce.

Everyone I know rhymes 'dance' and 'romance'.

How the hell do you pronounce them to make them not rhyme? Confused

seaviewer · 28/08/2016 14:15

The Beatles were smashed out of their brains and the rolling Stones slept with anyone and everyone and have no brains left, but no one cites those things as evidence of their lack of talent.
Totally agree about the Rolling Stones but to describe the Beatles as lacking in talent? Hmm

electricflyzapper · 28/08/2016 14:18

Well dance as in darn-ce (southern accent) and romance as in ro-man-ce.

But that's just me. Others would say it to rhyme. I have no problem with CdeB rhyming the words. I love the way he says world in one of the songs (I forget which) on the Hands of Man album. He rolls the R Irish style, lovely.

electricflyzapper · 28/08/2016 14:20

Sorry Seaviewer, I hate the Beatles. A much over rated band imo. Rolling Stones are a bit better. Imo. It's all personal opinion, at the end of the day.

electricflyzapper · 28/08/2016 14:22

Though actually, I wasn't saying the Beatles were talentless. The opposite. I was saying their foibles didn't detract from their talent, and CdeB's foibles don't detract (or shouldn't be used to detract) from his talent.

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 28/08/2016 14:25

Verybitchy are you a northerner? In the south we say dance with a long A so it rhymes with dark or large, in and we say romance with a short a like in man or pants, so they don't rhyme.

OP posts:
TSSDNCOP · 28/08/2016 14:29

I've got Cilla in my head rhyming dance and romance.

I've got Hyacinth rhyming dahnce and romahnce.
