Another parking one - with a note!

SIL parked on a patch of grass over the road from my parents earlier to collect her DC who my mum was watching for her. I was there with my DC. When she went back to the car this note had been left for her.

My dad is fuming, if they wake up with a horses head next to them in bed a la the godfather they'll have got off lightly.

a) the grass belongs to the council
b) it's a rented property and the owners are friends with my parents and they know it belongs to the council (there used to be good natured joshing about getting the prime spot on the grass when all us kids lived at home so there were 5 extra cars to park, plus partners )
c) my dad is friends with the chap that built the house in the first place and it definitely belongs to the council
d) the council maintain/mow it

I predict every visitor to my parents will now park there, my dad was moving talking about moving his car there as I left.

Would we BU to point out it doesn't belong to them so anyone can park there as and when they fancy? It doesn't cause any obstruction to anyone's drive/right of way.

I didn't think you were meant to park on council owned grass. You certainly aren't allowed to here and the council take it very seriously.

Also, your attitude seems to be very belittling of the fact the accused note writers are not homeowners. How is that any of your business?

No but it churns up the grass which looks pretty awful. My mum has put big rocks at intervals at the front of her grass to stop this...good on her I say

Put a note through their door saying

Please tell me where your grass is so I can ensure it won't happen future.

But they seem to think try own the grass, and they unequivocally don't, as we know the complete history of the property...

And yes it's fine to park on council land here, it's actually classed as 'common land' you could rock up and graze horses on it if you wanted to

I agree, people park in grass across from us very occasionally. Each time, it annoys me. The place is covered in concrete for cars. The tiny bit of grass, to add a bit of natural landscape, should be allowed to do exactly that.
Park further down the road if you need to, but not on the grass, whether they own or rent, or where the council owns it or not, it's not a parking space.

Don't park on grass.

They might not own the grass but I applaud them for wanting to keep it nice, you knowing the history of the property means fuck all.

Buy some gnomes and concrete them on either side of the grass - claim the land! And is they say anything tell them there is an English course at the local community college to assist them with their spelling!

Why didn't she just park on the road? Some twatty parents park on a tiny roundabout with a tree in the middle at DS's school - it's absolutely wrecked the grass. Lazy fuckers basically

I suppose as they rent, they've probably never seen the deeds, so may think it's part of the property.

Though how do they reconcile the fact that the council mow it for them? Do they think it's a service included in their council tax?

It doesn't matter who it belongs to, they obviously take pride in how their house and the surrounding area look, you obviously don't. I know how I'd prefer to live near, renting or not

Don't park on grass in front of someone's home. That should solve the issue.
If they had loads of cars from one house,maybe they've had enough & snapped?

So my note posted back through their door would read "Darling, as soon as you can tell me which grass you actually own, we'll be certain not to park on it".......

No-one should park on grass verges - it's massively inconsiderate of the residents who might actually appreciate a bit of amenity land.

You park on it, churn it up and ruin it and then it probably stays like that for months if not forever.

I for one, like to see a bit of green on a residential street and would not dream of thoughtlessly driving over it and spoiling it.

Yes, the verges belong to the council and they maintain it - but they simply do not have the budget to replace grass verges wrecked by inconsiderate drivers.

Because it was more convenient to park where she did, and it's common land and perfectly acceptable.

And I was amused about how miffed my dad was, does no one on here have a sense of humour anymore
