Another parking one - with a note!

This will do totally out me, so name change coming up soon.

SIL parked on a patch of grass over the road from my parents earlier to collect her DC who my mum was watching for her. I was there with my DC. When she went back to the car this note had been left for her.

My dad is fuming, if they wake up with a horses head next to them in bed a la the godfather they'll have got off lightly.

a) the grass belongs to the council
b) it's a rented property and the owners are friends with my parents and they know it belongs to the council (there used to be good natured joshing about getting the prime spot on the grass when all us kids lived at home so there were 5 extra cars to park, plus partners Shock)
c) my dad is friends with the chap that built the house in the first place and it definitely belongs to the council
d) the council maintain/mow it

I predict every visitor to my parents will now park there, my dad was moving talking about moving his car there as I left.

Would we BU to point out it doesn't belong to them so anyone can park there as and when they fancy? It doesn't cause any obstruction to anyone's drive/right of way.

But it's not perfectly acceptable, it's fucking lazy and antisocial. I have a sense of humour when I hear something funny

polarpercy · 25/08/2016 20:46

Common land doesn't mean park a car on it though. Perhaps rather than worrying about who owns the property car drivers should try parking sensibly and not churning up grass etc.

EttaJ · 25/08/2016 20:47

Deserved. Parking on grass is a no no.

Marmite27 · 25/08/2016 20:47

Oh and it's not really amenity land, it's about 6 metres by 3 metres, and definitely no trees!

I remember the hoo-ha when I was a nipper and someone did graze a horse there, there was nothing anyone could do, due to the status of the land. (Original owner/builder at that time).

Stop digging, OP.

TwistNshout · 25/08/2016 20:48

Your reaction seems very OTT. Pretty U to park on the grass.

EarthboundMisfit · 25/08/2016 20:49

Awww. That note's quite sweet, really, although I take your point re grass ownership.

I would avoid parking on it if possible, bet it makes a real mess.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 25/08/2016 20:49

It's not about having a sense of humour, OP, it's about having an unjustified sense of entitlement.

icelollycraving · 25/08/2016 20:49

Do you seriously not understand that parking on the grass is a pretty antisocial thing to do?

arethereanyleftatall · 25/08/2016 20:50

So, they left a perfectly polite note to a perfectly reasonable request - regardless of who owns it, parking on grass isn't great - and this is your families reaction? Um, yabu.

BennyTheBall · 25/08/2016 20:52

FGS - what do you think the definition of amenity land is, OP.

Let's all wreck our environment - sod everyone else.

pourmeanotherdrink · 25/08/2016 20:52

So it's okay to wreck the grass because it's owned by the council and because it was a little more convenient to park there? Antisocial behaviour at its finest. You all sound like a lovely family.

Birdsgottafly · 25/08/2016 20:52

So your Dads a thug and the rest of you don't care what your surrounding area looks like?

People benefit from any green spaces, even if it's just grass and small, rather than just being surrounded by concrete.

It's a shame that your council don't enforce what most do, that is, no damage to be done to grassed areas.

What sort of people are you that you'll enjoy turning grass into a bit of mud? Oh yes, scumbags.

PovertyPain · 25/08/2016 20:54

How totally ignorant, to park on grass, that is there for aesthetic reasons. I dare say people like living there, in part, because of the nice green areas, then your family treat it like their own personal parking space. I really hope they put boulders on it.

Gazelda · 25/08/2016 20:55

So how would you feel if the note-neighbour started parking his car there all the time, so that the grass got churned up into a muddy mess?

I get the impression they'd be frowned on for lowering the tone like typical council tenants.

PunkrockerGirl · 25/08/2016 20:56

Hmm. Yabu obviously. But I'd have had to correct the spelling and post it back through their door.

Marmite27 · 25/08/2016 20:57

Inconsiderate, thug scumbags!

Excellent, I wonder if anyone can beat that by the end of the thread Grin
