Ive finished Maestra. WOW When this book came out there was hype about the explicit sex in it. But there is a lot of graphic violence as well. Ive read it over the last week. The lead character turns into a bloody psycho.
The film rights have been bought by the same woman behind the female Ghostbusters reboot.

If it gets made into a film it will be interesting to see how it compares to the book.

PortiaCastis · 09/09/2016 19:58

Is the psycho male or female Helena ?

HelenaDove · 09/09/2016 20:05

female.

PortiaCastis · 09/09/2016 20:13

Ah well that makes a change I suppose
Have just recommended Lesbian Vampire Killers as a suitable dvd for AGL to watch

HelenaDove · 09/09/2016 20:14
Grin
HelenaDove · 09/09/2016 20:17

The way the publicity and hype mainly focused on the sex in the book but there was nothing said about the violence says a lot about the way British people view sex.

PortiaCastis · 09/09/2016 20:25

Oh not me !!!
Having suffered DV i view things differently

HelenaDove · 09/09/2016 20:40

YY Portia. There is not enough focus on violence in society and the lasting physical and psychological harm it does.

And far too much panic about people being corrupted by sex. My hardback copy of Maestra has an 18+ sticker on the front which is fair enough. It shouldnt really be sold to anyone younger. But a lot of ppl have Kindles now.

Ive also seen ppl on MN try and argue that erotic fiction is the same as porn.

Erotic fiction is the written word on a page. No one is being co erced or harmed. I read erotic fiction but i dont watch porn.

If there is a film version made of Maestra it will very likely be a watered down version to get the mainstream film going public.

PortiaCastis · 09/09/2016 20:53

Having had facial injuries and a broken arm inflicted on me in my teens I advocate DV effects should be common knowledge early on in lifes learning
People who have never experienced violence sexual or physical should be made to understand what women go through.
Having said that, my ex husband was never prosecuted but my male family members erm had a word shall we say. That has more effect.
Too painful to type anymore except to say I carry mental scars
