Aibu to think the women in M&S were rude to dh?

Took dd for her school uniform today and tried next and a few other shops but none of the skirts fit her little waist and are long enough so I thought I'd try M&S. Found a few nice ones and took her into the changing rooms.
There was us and another couple of women with a little boy getting changed in there.
Finally found a skirt to fit dd but thought it looked a little long so shouted dh and asked if it looked to long so he popped his head round from where he was sitting on the sofa to look at the length and the two women on fitting rooms said "excuse me but there could be women getting bra fittings round there you can't go round there" really loudly in front of the women in there with the little boy and left dh looking really embarrassed.

I went round and said I thought that it was very rude to embarrass him like that in front of everyone and the woman started arguing with me about bra fittings as a defence. There was literally my dd and a probably 8 year old boy and a total of 3 changing rooms.

I changed dd chucked the skirts on the desk and left.
What would dh do if he went alone with dd?

Why didn't you just walk your child out to where your husband was waiting so he could have a look?

However, if they were mixed changing rooms then you weren't doing anything wrong.

Yabu it's a women's changing room, as if you were rude to the staff for protecting people's dignity

What would dh do if he went alone with dd?

Assuming Dd isn't old enough to go in alone, he would have taken her into the men's.

Like mothers take boys into the ladies if they are too young to go alone.

If it's like our MandS where it's a giant changing room with women getting changed in one big area I wouldn't be happy

If it's individual cubicles it's fine

If it's a big communal women's one then no, of course your dh couldn't have taken your kid in there to get her to try things on

Our m&s let me and hubby go into a fitting room in the bra section to feed baby - it was my very first public feeding so I felt very vulnerable- they were awesome and I was chuffed that they let my hubby in too. Must have been just that one person!

There was no one in there! Just my dd and a little boy! No it was just a changing room on the second floor it didn't say womens or mens and no signs anywhere about men etc just said fitting room..

YABU - why on earth couldn't your DD pop out to show him?! There could indeed have been bra fittings, or Muslim customers in there so him strolling into the women's fitting rooms isn't appropriate at all.

And to have a go at the staff was just bloody rude!!

Surely bra fitting would be in an individual cubicle? Anyway, if that was the only skirt you found to fit, I would have bought it...now you have to keep searching for one.

God no not communal just individual rooms with proper doors.

If it's a women's and men's changing room then you should complain as he could actually have been in there trying things on himself

Are you sure there wasn't a sign saying 'womens' or 'unisex' I would be really surprised if that wasn't the case.

Your DH shouldn't be poking his head into women's changing rooms.

She did pop out of her cubicle into the area by the sofa and he popped his head round to from where he was sitting. The only thing he could see was closed doors and dd how on earth would that affect anyone? And there was no one in their except two children one of whom was mine which the ladies knew.

davos I'm guessing they were the changing rooms in the women's section, where they are not usually labelled as its pretty fucking obvious they're for women only.

No sign saying womens or unisex. Just 'fitting room' on a floor with mens womens and children's clothes on.

Maybe the staff member was overzelaous in policing the man free zone thing but I don' think they were rude.

Womens section is actually downstairs. It was next to the children's clothes but there is a lingerie section at the back of the upstairs and menswear on the other side

I know what you mean op, it sounds like we have similar at the local M&S here. It really is a sign saying "Changing Rooms" with individual cubicles within it. No communal changing area whatsoever and nobody even remotely undressed who isn't in a cubicle. because it is changing rooms it is for anyone who needs to use it.

It would probably have been better if you'd brought your DD out to show your DH, but the woman sounds a bit as though she wanted to have a go at someone about something.

Who on earth would be standing in the middle of the open changing room floor having a bra fitting? Whenever I've had one in M&S the staff member comes into the changing room and fits it in there - in private.

Your DH could always have said he identified as a woman and there would be nothing the assistant would say about it.

It was more the way she spoke to him than asking him to leave which was my problem to be honest she snapped at him like he was some kind of peeping Tom for looking at dds skirt .

Our M&S has women's clothing on one floor and the changing room on that floor (although not marked as such) is only for women. The staff on the door will stop men (and even my 10 year old DS) coming through.

Same in reverse for the men's clothing.
I think they should have better signage.
