To have asked my hairdresser on a date?

auldspinster · 01/08/2016 20:37

Had my hair done on Saturday - we were talking sex; relationships and children and we were bemoaning how difficult it is to meet people at our age (we're both 41) and what we missed as single people.

I've always found him attractive and we always have masses to talk about (my frightwig takes about an hour to cut and dry) and I thought afterwards, fuck it, life's too short.

He has a website for a semi professional thing he does on the side so I emailed through it, suggesting we meet for a coffee. That was at lunchtime, am I insane?

It might work out ok but yes it's inappropriate, very much so.

DesignedForLife · 01/08/2016 20:39

If you like him go for it. If it crashes and burns you might need s new hairdresser though.

TellMeSomethingNew · 01/08/2016 20:41

No you're not insane at all! You're just two people who get on well and could have a fantastic future together. So what that it's not perfect perfect circumstance? It's not as if he's your child's teacher or something!

Let us know what he says!! GrinWine

auldspinster · 01/08/2016 20:43

He costs a bloody fortune so the prospect of paying with sexual favours appeals Grin.

Aaah why not. The worst that could happen is that you have to find a new hairdresser. Sometimes it's worth being bold and taking a risk. It could be the best thing you ever did. Not like he's your gynaecologist in any event!

auldspinster · 01/08/2016 20:46

That's the way I'm thinking Penelope.

Yanbu at all! I hope he says yes!

auldspinster · 02/08/2016 12:10

Not heard anything so far but I guess it's only been 24 hours Sad.

How so Oreo's?

scarednoob · 02/08/2016 12:13

Why was it inappropriate? If he says thanks but no thanks, OP can choose whether to laugh it off or go elsewhere. He's her hairdresser not her junior!

Sparklesilverglitter · 02/08/2016 12:14

No not insane. Life is too short, he may well reply and I hope he says yes 😀

Amelie10 · 02/08/2016 12:16

I think it's a bit odd you did that, sounds like he makes conversation because it comes with that job and you might have misread it?

auldspinster · 02/08/2016 12:26

Amelie i appreciate what you're saying but it isn't as if I've asked him to marry me and give me children, just for a coffee.

He isn't one for the typical hairdresser holiday talk, he was being pretty unambiguous taking about how he was quite lonely (just after i had said how happy i was being single, which is the truth).

OP posts:
tiggerkid · 02/08/2016 12:46

I hope he responds positively. Best of luck. The worst that can happen is you might need a new hairdresser, so why not?

PhwoarGras · 02/08/2016 13:11

If it's inappropriate to ask someone on a date, how will people ever date? Confused

nannylife · 02/08/2016 13:20

Please ignore the posters saying it's inappropriate! It's so so hard to meet people these days because everyone seems to lead busy lives. If you can't ask your hairdresser out for coffee then there's something wrong in the world! Keep us updated :)

fastdaytears · 02/08/2016 13:20

Grin at inappropriate! He's not her patient or something!

You did fine OP. Sounded casual and maybe he'll be up for it. If not you've lost nothing.

Jinglebells99 · 02/08/2016 13:22

Aw, maybe he doesn't check that email very often if it's something he does on the side?

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 02/08/2016 13:23

You are far braver than I am op, good for you.

I hope he replies soon.

Have you got a back up hairdresser in mind just in case?

Finola1step · 02/08/2016 13:25

It is not inappropriate. He's not your GP. He provides you with a service which you choose and pay for. Just as it would be perfectly acceptable to ask out the plumber, builder, window cleaner etc etc.

It may be awkward though.

trufflesnout · 02/08/2016 13:26

Did you email him or was it one of those online contact forms? Those things are often buggered. Anyway, in any case, if it's a PT side thing he won't be checking the emails for it very often.

auldspinster · 02/08/2016 13:54

Online contact form - thought a Facebook message might disappear into the secret spam folder. We were talking about how hard it is to meet people.

OP posts:
YourNewspaperIsShit · 02/08/2016 13:57

Think you're better off popping in to ask or give him your number, not many people keep up with their emails and junk folder shallows everything, all the best Smile

YourNewspaperIsShit · 02/08/2016 13:59

Swallows * (especially the online contact forms he may only check them at set intervals)

DraenorQueen · 02/08/2016 14:01

Not inappropriate at all - wish I had the nerve to ask people out! Good luck, hope he gets back to you!
