To have asked my hairdresser on a date?

Had my hair done on Saturday - we were talking sex; relationships and children and we were bemoaning how difficult it is to meet people at our age (we're both 41) and what we missed as single people.

I've always found him attractive and we always have masses to talk about (my frightwig takes about an hour to cut and dry) and I thought afterwards, fuck it, life's too short.

He has a website for a semi professional thing he does on the side so I emailed through it, suggesting we meet for a coffee. That was at lunchtime, am I insane?

Not inappropriate in itself. But he might have someone else who checks the contact forms for him.

myownprivateidaho · 02/08/2016 14:13

Nah, it's fine. It would have been off if he were a doctor or something, but I don't think the national hairdressers' association have a code of ethics prohibiting them from dating customers. However, it would be fair to start getting your hair done elsewhere if he doesn't reply, or says no. Good for you, whatever happens.

auldspinster · 02/08/2016 14:21

Could always just leave a message at the salon i suppose. I've got alternatives - the salon he works for is pretty swank but has a few branches around the city.

He might not check those messages regularly or, as a PP said, someone else might check them for him. totally just posted that to placemark

RedHareWithBlondeHair · 02/08/2016 14:24

Good luck!
and no this is not an attempt to place mark

backtowork2015 · 02/08/2016 14:29

It's a great idea, I went out with my hairdresser for 4 yrs after I popped by and left my name and number with his reception.

flanjabelle · 02/08/2016 14:29

Good luck!

not place marking ether

TheWitTank · 02/08/2016 15:20

Anything yet?

LaurieFairyCake · 02/08/2016 15:29

You're sure he's straight?

auldspinster · 02/08/2016 15:31

Any news?
Also not placemarking

LaurieFairyCake · 02/08/2016 15:39

Excellent Smile - hope he responds soon

GertrudeMoo · 02/08/2016 15:57

Not inappropiate at all. I asked out my dentist. That was probably a bit inappropriate. We dated for a month, but he was utterly bonkers and nothing like his dentist persona!

Givememorewine · 02/08/2016 16:01

Inappropriate Hmm some people here Oreos really need to unclench!

Sonders · 02/08/2016 16:02

I think it was ok to go for it!

However, I run websites for loads of clients and a lot of them use me to weed through their messages too - including a hairdressers. Don't be surprised if your message has just given a website manager or marketing agency somewhere a little surprise!

Buggers · 02/08/2016 16:07

gertrude did you need to get a new dentistGrin?!

Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2016 16:08

Good luck - but nice available men are easier to find than good hairdressers !!

Queenbean · 02/08/2016 16:09

Definitely not inappropriate! What planet are some people on?!

Cleorapter · 02/08/2016 16:15

I married my hairdresser Grin Hope it works out for you!

echelon · 02/08/2016 16:32

Just to say good luck --placemarking- and do update!

RichardBucket · 02/08/2016 16:35

I do think asking on a date via an online contact form was very odd, though inappropriate is an inappropriate word. But I don't think it was wrong to ask him for a date.

GertrudeMoo · 02/08/2016 16:39

Yes Buggers, I most definitely did!

amusedbush · 02/08/2016 16:40

Ooh, exciting! Definitely not weird or inappropriate.

YelloDraw · 02/08/2016 16:44

EEEEK hope it works out but you'll have to get a new hair dress if it doesn't!

auldspinster · 02/08/2016 17:37

It's an online contact form on his own personal photography site, he's had a few exhibitions and takes commissions. I'd be very surprised if it was outsourced.
