To have asked my hairdresser on a date?

Had my hair done on Saturday - we were talking sex; relationships and children and we were bemoaning how difficult it is to meet people at our age (we're both 41) and what we missed as single people.

I've always found him attractive and we always have masses to talk about (my frightwig takes about an hour to cut and dry) and I thought afterwards, fuck it, life's too short.

He has a website for a semi professional thing he does on the side so I emailed through it, suggesting we meet for a coffee. That was at lunchtime, am I insane?

Oh no! Sorry to hear it auld. What an idiot, I didn't see your pics, but you're a stunner and he obviously doesn't know what's good for him.

icelollycraving · 09/08/2016 17:25

Oh goodness, sorry to hear that. At least now you know.

weeblueberry · 09/08/2016 17:27

Sorry to hear that auld. Sad

Just remember what's meant for you won't go by you.

Got a hot man I have a flirty friendship with visiting at the end of the month so all is not lost.

auldfuckingspinster · 09/08/2016 17:32

Just glad I know now.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 09/08/2016 17:32

Many irons in the fire.

I like it!

panegyricS1 · 09/08/2016 17:35

Nothing ventured etc.

PP's Grandma probably dated in the mid 20th century when etiquette was very different. Grandma's view is therefore not relevant.

I also asked my DH out. He says he would have called me, but I was so bored of jumping whenever the 'phone rang that I called him. That was 21 years ago so I assume he looked on me very favourably. I've also found out years later that someone was madly in love with me, and I hadn't realisd it at at the time, because they didn't ask me out. Some men are shy. not all men who like you will ask you out, Life is short enough, if you like a bloke, ask him. Nothing ventured and all that. Well done OP! Sorry it didn't work out this time, but you did the right thing asking.

auldfuckingspinster · 09/08/2016 18:01

Thanks everyone, won't lie, am a bit sad but it realistically wouldn't have lasted and there were a few red flags that I was conveniently overlooking, I'm a good couple of inches taller than him (not that I'm heightist mind).

I think the uncertainty caused me to become rather unhinged so now I can move on.

Will still go to him for hair cuts though (made sure he was OK with that).

Onwards and upwards!

auldfuckingspinster · 09/08/2016 18:03

Oh and he's in my mobile contacts as 'do not call!!!'.

GrumpyOldBag · 09/08/2016 18:20

How did he let you know?

Texted me saying he was flattered but preferred not to mix business and pleasure.

GinandTits · 09/08/2016 18:37

Oh well op, you did it! Glad you can still use him for haircuts :)

helenatroy · 09/08/2016 18:45

At least you know. Nothing ventured nothing gained. For me anyway I only regret the things I don't do.

brandy17 · 09/08/2016 19:22

Never mind As the corny but true saying goes, what's for you won't go by you. His loss!

user87654321 · 09/08/2016 19:45

At least you know. And at least he's not trying to 'play' you. You were very brave. Please don't change hairdressers though. Just go in like nothing has happened Smile

auldfuckingspinster · 09/08/2016 19:58

Nah, he's too good at coiffing my difficult hair.

Feefeefs · 09/08/2016 20:10

Fair play! At least you took a shot!

fastdaytears · 09/08/2016 20:13

I think you're awesome for asking. You've lost nothing and gained the admiration of all of MN.

dranaksjd · 09/08/2016 20:15

Yikes! I'd be mortified!

My friend has just texted me to say she's just seen him out and about wearing some twattish looking hipster gear, like ' a rat in a hat'. Looks like I had a lucky escapeGrin.

BastardGoDarkly · 09/08/2016 21:00

Well fucking done for giving it a shot op Wine and good luck with the next one!

helenatroy · 09/08/2016 21:14

Imagine having to be a hipsters bird. All that keeping your trousers up with a string and eating chips out of a plastic sandcastle bucket. No thanks.
