To have asked my hairdresser on a date?

Had my hair done on Saturday - we were talking sex; relationships and children and we were bemoaning how difficult it is to meet people at our age (we're both 41) and what we missed as single people.

I've always found him attractive and we always have masses to talk about (my frightwig takes about an hour to cut and dry) and I thought afterwards, fuck it, life's too short.

He has a website for a semi professional thing he does on the side so I emailed through it, suggesting we meet for a coffee. That was at lunchtime, am I insane?

Hell no. I could probably grow a stupid hipster moustache and beard of my own, such are the joys of being over 40.

helenatroy · 09/08/2016 21:42

Me too. Never have to drink beer out of a jam jar while pretending not to watch TOWIE.

OP you grabbed bull by the horns and did something impulsive which is brilliant. Life is far too full of bores, never dating to be different, never daring to take a risk or act with their hearts rather than their head. So many weird, prudish, old fashioned bores on this thread too. But- I really wouldn't go back for cuts etc with him. Would just be too weird/tense and I feel he isn't fully worthy of your business! Plenty of amazing hairdressers around.

I'll see how I feel when Feb rolls around.

Too true. Reminds me of a piece of advice a colleague gave me many years ago when I had been single for a very long time. I was trying to pluck up the courage to ask someone out:

'Keep on procrastinating and you'll keep on masturbating".

With those words ringing in my ear I asked them out and ... Dear Reader I got the knock back. But I felt it was something I could do in the future and it got easier each time after that.

I'd find a new hairdresser!

summerholsr2long · 10/08/2016 19:23

Sorry to hear OP, i think you were brave asking.
Only guy I ever asked out knocked me back so I never had the guts again.
All the best with this new guy Smile

Ha - Roland Rat in his hipster hat!

Narrow escape.

auldfuckingspinster · 11/08/2016 15:47

Doggity · 11/08/2016 18:53

His loss. You sound lovely. You'll find the right one for you, I'm sure. :)

Wishfulmakeupping · 13/08/2016 15:27

Sod finding another hairdresser op you've got nothing to feel embarrassed about some people mesh some dont. Hold your head high and chat like nothing's happened and I bet by then you'll be dating someone lovely and non-rat like ;)

Met aforementioned hot guy briefly this afternoon but he's on a flying visit and had to hotfoot it to the airport, was lovely to see him though.
