Are we really disgusting?

I love to have deep, hot baths and DH and DS do too. To enable us to have them really deep and not feel too bad about wasting water, we share the water, one going in after the other (or sometimes one of us shares with DS). I happened to mention this to my DSis who thinks its absolutely disgusting.

Obviously if I'm shaving then I'll go in last or if anyone's particularly dirty they go to the back of the queue, but this is normal behaviour isn't it? Does everyone else share bath water or AIBU to share bath water with my family?

I wouldn't ever consider it! To each their own, meaning carry on what works for you, but it's not something I do.

Vixxfacee · 17/07/2016 17:38

Yuck

Andrewofgg · 17/07/2016 17:40

We do this, and have done all our lives together. Dirtiest goes last, everyone tops up a bit, and it works fine.

CakeNinja · 17/07/2016 17:40

Not for me, sorry!
Dds used to share together when they were little, now we all have our own baths/showers.
I do think it's a bit grotty but that's why I don't do it.
You obviously don't think this way, that's why you do.
Nothing to do with anyone else if you're all happy.

RhiWrites · 17/07/2016 17:41

We did it as kids but I don't really like the thought now. But if you are all clean and only using the water to relax that's no different from a hot tub.

NickiFury · 17/07/2016 17:41

My children share bath water mostly. It isn't just the cost, its the faff of filling up baths from an ancient and small water tank. They bath every day usually, so how dirty can they be?

Arkwright · 17/07/2016 17:42

No way. How can you get clean in someone else's dirty water?

AnyFucker · 17/07/2016 17:44

Normal

Although I usually have my own bath as I put baby oil in it and the others then can't wash their hair in the water

Heh

ExcellentWorkThereMary · 17/07/2016 17:45

Yup lots of water sharing here too

SaucyJack · 17/07/2016 17:46

We often get two or three of us washed per bathful.

We only have an immersion heater for water (no shower either) so needs must when there are 5 of us needing washing every night.

It doesn't really bother me, although I can't say we'd keep doing it if we won the lottery either in all honesty.

SeenYourArse · 17/07/2016 17:47

Me and my husband do this either get in together or I gain far him because he fills the bath to the brim with steaming hot water then only sits there for 10 mins, when he gets out its still hotter than I would run one for myself! He also has a shower every single morning without fail so is hardly filthy if he fancies a bath in the evening.

JeffVaderneedsatray · 17/07/2016 17:47

It depends why I'm having a bath.......

If I have a bath for 'pleasure' ie just because I want a soak then DH might follow me or vice versa.

If I'm having a bath because I need to be clean then not much sharing goes on.

Mind, if I need to be clean then I tend to shower and the likelihood of me actually wanting to take a bath for anything other than warming up after a long training walk or event is possibly rare!

SeenYourArse · 17/07/2016 17:47

*get in after him! (iPad fail)

hownottofuckup · 17/07/2016 17:47

We used to do this when I was little. There could have been up to 5 people (but usually more like 3 or 4) in it before it got to my turn!
I used to love the way toys would disappear in the murky water... Good times Grin

karmapolice97 · 17/07/2016 17:47

We do this all the time, but it's more for relaxing than actual washing. We too have a very deep tub and not very efficient boiler so makes no sense to drain away a lovely hot tub when someone else can enjoy! We do also shower in the morning so hardly unclean.

RedHareWithBlondeHair · 17/07/2016 17:48

I think this is disgusting. But each to their own and all that.

DailyMailEthicalFail · 17/07/2016 17:48

Hmm. Human Soup I think.

Would use dd's bath water in a push as she is only 8 and good at wiping so is pretty clean to begin with but ds (11) no way... Grin

applesvpears · 17/07/2016 17:49

I personally would hate this. When my DD is old enough possibly, but then I have my bath way too hot for a child!!
I would not feel clean at all. I don't even like OH's bubbles left in there if I have a bath after him.

TheyOnceSaid · 17/07/2016 17:52

Sorry if this offends anyone but sharing bath weather is absolutely disgusting, how do you except to get clean whilst sitting in someone else's dirt, just thinking about it makes me feel ill, I can't believe people have openly admitted that they share bath water.

Water does not even cost that much!!

Laiste · 17/07/2016 17:52

Nope. This one's not for me. I'd rather skip having a wash completely than get into someone else's bath water

DCs can go in together, until they to about 6 or 7. Bit kids is kids :)

ApostrophesMatter · 17/07/2016 17:54

Gross.

Zaurak · 17/07/2016 17:55

My mother tells of how they used to do this. Her dad was a miner and refused to shower at the pit head.
So that probably why we've never done it....

WingsToFly · 17/07/2016 17:55

Was normal growing up. Also when everyone had an immersion heater it was more common to share bathwater and water took time to heat up again after a bath.

TheFairyCaravan · 17/07/2016 17:58

It's not something we'd do or have ever done. We didn't do it in our family when I was a child either.

Chewbecca · 17/07/2016 17:58

It was normal when I was a child but, no, I wouldn't do it now, the idea of trying to get clean in water that's not fresh & clean is illogical and a bit gross.
