Is it me or has there been a lot less activity on MN recently?

It could be me...but it seems there's less new threads happening...anyone else noticed this? It's probably been in the past month or maybe two that I've noticed.

OP posts:
bibbitybobbityyhat · 11/07/2016 12:22

Kate, you really shouldn't put words in other posters mouths. It isn't nice, however decent you are.

Owllady · 11/07/2016 12:25

It really is seasonal and to do with the weather.

katemiddletonsnudeheels · 11/07/2016 12:30

I don't think I have bibbity - I stated the way I read it, the way the meaning translated to me.

It seems some posters are using this thread as another way to tell Leave voters how awful they are and by default, how wonderful they are.

It isn't about how 'nice' people are: this thread nicely shows the points being made.

Firstly even innocuous threads become unpleasant when BREXIT is mentioned.

Secondly, personal attacks are seen as acceptable if you voted Leave.

Finally, the 'me, ME, make it all about ME' brigade are out in force.

YouTheCat · 11/07/2016 12:30

I haven't seen Crystal be aggressive at all. Not everyone who voted (either remain or leave) did so for their own personal gain. I used my vote because I thought what I wanted would be best for the majority of the country not necessarily myself. I'd say all those billions wiped off pensions and a failing pound speaks volumes.

katemiddletonsnudeheels · 11/07/2016 12:32

I don't think she is aggressive. I think she's made the thread about leave voters being Bad and then made some less than pleasant comments about me ('victim; not all that nice in real life.)

And then we throw up our hands and wonder why it's quiet.

Still, it's okay as it's justified because we are leaving the EU.

Anyway I have a job interview now so feel free to keep ripping me to shreds!

CrystalMcPistol · 11/07/2016 12:32

'I stated the way I read it, the way the meaning translated to me.'

Stop lying. You twisted it to suit your own agenda.

NickiFury · 11/07/2016 12:33

I can't see anyone being "ripped to shreds" Confused

CrystalMcPistol · 11/07/2016 12:33

Yes, proper victim mentality there.

Owllady · 11/07/2016 12:33

It's because it's summer. The sun has got his hat on, hip, hip, hooray

Just because you didn't see it, Nicki, doesn't mean it's not happening.

As before, I agree with cameron . I take no pleasure in people being upset but I reserve the right to feel announcing I am not a very nice person and then calling me a 'victim' when i object is perhaps less than fair. It means I have the option of accepting I am indeed a horrible person or being a victim Hmm

CrystalMcPistol · 11/07/2016 12:40

'People can be upset about both the result and being called a thick racist cunt. The two aren't mutually exclusive.'

Yes but some people are making out a person who expresses upset at the result is therefore implying that the 'thick cunt' remarks are okay. I haven't called anyone a thick cunt, or a racist cunt, or an anything cunt (with the exception of a few expletives thrown at Gove, Johnson, Leadsom, Banks et al). I merely said that unlike a previous poster the worst thing about the EU Ref has been the result. Yes, lots of nasty shit has seeped out of the woodwork since, but the result is what weighs heavily with me.

NickiFury · 11/07/2016 12:40

Well you seem to be the only one seeing it to be fair....

katemiddletonsnudeheels · 11/07/2016 12:43

As I've said Nicki it seems a bit unfair to place me in a position where any attempt to defend myself brands me a victim.

And, it does rather go back to the 'nit picking / point scoring' posts.

MrsDoylesTeaParty · 11/07/2016 12:44

I've noticed people reading posts totally wrong and getting defensive at the drop of a hat. It's like people want an argument all the time.

NickiFury · 11/07/2016 12:53

I also think that some posters make a massive meal out of and take personally fairly innocuous comments in order to get people to back off. Accusing people of "ripping to shreds" is fairly emotive language that might make posters concerned at how they're being perceived and so shut them down. In line with your other posts on how tough you've had it since the referendum I am afraid I am inclined to agree with crystal that's there's a bit of playing the victim going on with you.

Anyway, I will leave it there. Hope your interview goes well Smile

ReluctantCamper · 11/07/2016 12:56

Mumsnet is shit threads tend to make me roll my eyes and move on. There's one every week at least.

However, I'm sure the Daily Mail must be putting a bit of a chill on the site. I see threads where I think 'uh oh, perfect Mail fodder, do not post there on any account'.

WellErrr · 11/07/2016 13:00

And here we are again.

THIS is why people can't be fucked with mumsnet any more. A few Remain voters post around the same time and we end up with YET ANOTHER thread being arsey to anyone who defends voting Leave, or dares to mention the vile attitudes of some of the more vocal Remain voters.

The result is what it is. The attitudes of those who didn't vote for it are optional.

CrystalMcPistol · 11/07/2016 13:04

Some selective vision at work there.

NickiFury · 11/07/2016 13:04

A few Remain voters post around the same time and we end up with YET ANOTHER thread being arsey to anyone who defends voting Leave, or dares to mention the vile attitudes of some of the more vocal Remain voters.

But that has not happened on this thread. Personally I am frustrated by the fact that this has turned into yet another Brexit thread and haven't mentioned that myself. As far as I can see it was "leavers" lamenting hoe badly they've been treated that have turned this thread into what it now is.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 11/07/2016 13:05

Extraordinary the way this thread has turned out but Kate you seem determined to cause a rumpus by sidestepping Crystal's perfectly ordinary posts and aligning her with other unseen and unknown posters who called someone a thick cunt or a racist cunt on another thread.

I'm not going to say you are playing a victim, I am going to say that you are being really unpleasant towards a poster who has done absolutely nothing to deserve it on this thread.

And, yes, yes, I know that the way it has gone is much of the reason why people aren't posting much on Mumsnet right now.

That and the Fail, of course.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 11/07/2016 13:07

Quite, Nicki, who made it into a Brexit thread I wonder?

ReluctantCamper · 11/07/2016 13:10

WellErr, I think you're being a bit over sensitive. I went back and read the thread. Crystal said the worst thing about the referendum was the result. Kate after a bit of too-ing and fro-ing said that this meant Crystal endorsed personal attacks.

While neither then covered themselves in glory and it all got a bit heated, I think Kate, a leaver twisted the thread round to Brexit based personal attacks.

I feel like I'm writing a PhD thesis here.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 11/07/2016 13:11

yeah

Brexit
TROLLs
DM
and some really fucking nasty threads recently , with oftentimes established posters being just...I don't know

I would never ever start a personal thread anymore.

WellErrr · 11/07/2016 13:11

Many reasons have been mentioned for people not posting as often/unpleasant atmosphere.

The ONLY ONE to have turned THIS THREAD unpleasant is Brexit.

It's fucking ridiculous that even with the Ref topic hidden there's no getting away from the bitterness and underlying atmosphere. I don't see this in real life, but half an hour on mumsnet is enough to dampen the brightest mood at the moment.

Another thread to hide then...!
