I'm seeing more amd more ridiculous "God save the queen" type posts on Facebook. Aibu to be sick and tired of it all. She's 90, big deal, lots didn't get to that age because of a lifetimes poverty and hard work. I mean real work not signing a few papers and getting chauffeured about.

She's just a human being, I find it all very sci~fi, having a 'Queen' - nobody says I have to like royalty, and I don't care for them at all. She's never had to worry about money, has immediate access to healthcare etc etc etc. Yeah, ok, she works hard, maybe being chauffeured to a ceremony lasting an hour or two. Big deal. Some of the queeny lovers on here are super patronising, I'm sure she'll be thanking you for it.

QueenEdith · 11/06/2016 18:32

Nope, the Royal Family Topic (when anyone ever uses it) has a full spectrum of views.

Always has. When people actually use it, of course.

IIRC, sparking once posted that she has it hidden because it always seemed full of haters.

Sparklingbrook · 11/06/2016 18:34

I have only ten topics not hidden QE, I had to go and find the Royal Family topic for the link. Grin

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 11/06/2016 18:40

This really should at least have the benefit that brexiteers who froth and whinge about the loss of our Englishness can feel very reassured that we are clearly able to spend a day and lots of cash grovelling and scraping and doing pomp and ceremony. Funnily enough, Brussels haven't stopped us doing this.

Bet they don't see it like that though.

maggiethemagpie · 11/06/2016 18:51

I'm no monarchist but give her her due she still works quite hard at an age when most people would be sat on their arse doing nowt all day. She has taken her duties particularly seriously and could have retired /abdicated to charles by now but hasn't.

Jjtwhite26 · 11/06/2016 18:55

I now it's 90th birthday celebrations this year but just love to watch the soldiers doing there trooping, so much hard work that goes into that😊

cruikshank · 11/06/2016 20:53

Yeah it's tricky stuff alright, isn't it, walking?

seagaze · 11/06/2016 20:59

Maggie most people that age would be sat on their arse at that age? Oh yes right, like they have an army of servants to tend to their every whim, unlike the queen who probably can't even change her own toilet roll. These people you are referring to, the ones that are probably sat on their arse have had a lifetimes toil, and are probably nowhere near as robust as the queen because they're worn down by life in general. I think they're bloody well entitled to "sit on their arses", they've worked hard for it and earned it, and paid their own way in life. The queen might be busy, but she gets to do things that others would love to do. But when she does it, it gets called work. What a joke. Even if it was work she's highly rewarded for it.

Hmm sure is, actually very proud of our military and what they do, would love to see you drill with the lads, pretty sure you would struggle😊 The lads work bloody hard to do what they do In between everything else, proud and always will be proud of British soldiers. I see the hard work they put in on a daily basis and can tell you it's more than just walking.

fastdaytears · 11/06/2016 22:15

Oh it's just a fun day. I really don't think about the queen often but organised an (indoor) street party today and other than singing happy birthday and colouring in some corgis it was pretty un-royal. We had a bouncy castle and ate lots. It's just nice to have something to celebrate.
I haven't seen any of this FB annoyingness and I'm fine with that.

derxa · 11/06/2016 22:18

Oh bog off

cruikshank · 11/06/2016 22:40

You're so right jjtwhite -it isn't just walking. It's walking with hats on. Heroes every one of them. wipes away tear

OrigamiOverload · 11/06/2016 23:03

Are we calling her gueen now after her outfit today?

MrsMarsch · 11/06/2016 23:09

OP can you just piss off and be miserable with the rest of the anarchists. It's boring.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 11/06/2016 23:11

an age when most people would be sat on their arse doing nowt all day

My granny was dead at 90. My grandfather worked hard all his life and yes, he's sitting on his hip replaced arse all day though I'm sure he'd rather not if his health had allowed it. What an extremely fucking stupid and offensive post.

MrsSpecter · 12/06/2016 00:03

I think if there was ever a time to be sat on your arse all day then 90 years old would be it. Its exactly where you should be, if you can. Lizzie cant, she has obligations that most other 90 year olds dont have despite having also worked hard during her life. She didnt choose the role she was born into but boy did she rise to it.

Jjtwhite26 · 12/06/2016 01:04

If you could even be bothered to look at guards history you would see it's more than just bearskins and drill but I guarantee your to ignorant to care, heyho life goes on 😘

lemonny · 12/06/2016 07:01

Oh this is such a good way to describe it! It's how I feel, I saw some of the birthday celebration and it just weirded me out, why are we all bowing down to her? It's so incongruent with modern world. SHE'S JUST A FUCKING OLD WOMAN YOU
WEIRDOS.

ProfessorPreciseaBug · 12/06/2016 07:21

Well my birthday pressie to her will be to vote to take our country back from the unelected bureaucracy in Brussles..

I do think she has done some good over her life.. though some parts must be difficult. When she got the job, half the globe was coloured pink and we had thirty plus aircraft carriers. Over her life we have become less and less significant...

Now we are told how to behave by another government and we have to obey all the EU directives they hand out.

lemonny · 12/06/2016 07:42

Ugh now we have people on here boohooing about the end of the empire, get a grip.

seagaze · 12/06/2016 08:25

Lizzie cant, she has obligations that most other 90 year olds dont have despite having also worked hard during her life. She didnt choose the role she was born into but boy did she rise to it.
Of course she has obligations, but they're not exactly going to leave her exhausted. Other 90 year olds do have obligations, they have to try and care for themselves and struggle to keep warm and feed themselves. They've worked hard all there lives and it's an insult to them to imply the queen has equally worked hard all her life. No she hasn't, she's lived an immensely privileged and cosseted life, her engagements shouldn't be considered as work. She could so easily step down now if she wanted, shes selfishly denying her son the role he's been brought up to know will one day be his his, not out of any sense of "duty to her country" as she'd have us believe, but rather more a determination to keep the monarchy going at any price, the preservation of the monarchy is vital to her and she sees Charles and Camiila maybe as the undoing of it. She's ruthless, she showed her true colours when Diana died.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 12/06/2016 08:26

Ironically of course age actually did spend the day sitting on her arse ....

MrsSpecter · 12/06/2016 10:27

Well thats not what I implied is it. I said she has worked hard during her life. Which she has. It would be pointless trying to compare one 90 year old's "hardness" of work against any others because it varies so much. Many did diddly squat.

As for your comment regarding denying charles his role. Confused is that so you cant start on what a lazy waste of a life he is?

seagaze · 12/06/2016 10:59

mrsspectre the whole lot of them are lazy, nobody is a waste of life, but to say the queen or any of them have worked hard all their lives is ridiculous. I agree she keeps busy but she has to do something to justify the massively privileged lifestyle that's provided for her. All the hard work is done for her, what she does is prepared and presented to her by others.
I find it bizarre that in these so called enlightened times of equal opportunity for all, we have as head of state someone who is only there through the accident of birth. Purely a figure head, but what a damned expensive one.
