Regarding gueens birthday

I'm seeing more amd more ridiculous "God save the queen" type posts on Facebook. Aibu to be sick and tired of it all. She's 90, big deal, lots didn't get to that age because of a lifetimes poverty and hard work. I mean real work not signing a few papers and getting chauffeured about.

I'm not fussed about the Royality but enjoy watching a bit of pomp. Think my 5 year old DD is an anti-monarchist though as when I pointed to the TV (its even on the telly over here in Finland) and said "that's your Queen" she said "No its not!"

MLGs · 11/06/2016 16:14

I like the word gueen.

seagaze · 11/06/2016 16:16

Seriously, get a life. This gets so incredibly old. The woman is 90. FFS, she has spent her entire adult life in service to the country. She has a more punishing schedule than any other she costs the country £265 million a year, her service to the country shouldn't warrant that, apart from that she could step down anytime she wanted, she would if the work she did was in any way strenuous, but it isn't. There's lots of 90 year olds, the queens no more deserving of a big fuss than any of them.. ...Id love to know about this "punishing schedule" though. She keeps occupied, there's a difference between that and a "punishing schedule".

I love all the pomp and ceremony. It's something we do extremely well. Today's Trooping the Colour was a wonderful sight and I puff up with pride at the sight of the disciplined soldiers giving there all (except the poor bugger who fainted today - he will be getting it in the neck (and pocket) right about now!)

(Oh and the Queen has two birthdays - her real one in April and her official one in June - a tradition started during her grandfathers reign because of the constant crappy weather for his November birthday)

Thingsthatmakeugoummmm · 11/06/2016 16:26

So with you seagaze! Why would anyone respect a family that are only ruling the country due to the family they were born into! They were not voted in or chosen for their skills!

I get sick of hearing people saying that she's so good for 90! As u said she's had a lifetime of excessive privilege. I bet she's never had to sit in A and E for several hours, or chose fuel over food!

I cannot bear to even turn television on at moment.

DirtyBlonde · 11/06/2016 16:28

It's the institution which costs the £265m (or whatever).

I doubt we'd get any other head of state for less.

Sparklingbrook · 11/06/2016 16:29

Yawn

SelfLoadingFreight · 11/06/2016 16:33

Here's a suggestion for all the whingers, why don't you you take your student angst & shove it where it'll do most good?

MrsSpecter · 11/06/2016 16:35

she would if the work she did was in any way strenuous, but it isn't.

Bollocks. Plenty of people do very hard work that they dont have to do.

derxa · 11/06/2016 16:39

seagaze I'm in a childish mood. What is your great contribution to the country?

I'm with you, OP. It's quite difficult to avoid - I switched on BBC Breakfast this morning hoping for some news, but I got sychophantic rubbish about Mrs Windsor's birthday, and cut to a feature with two soldiers blow-drying a horse's fetlocks in preparation for whatever procession was happening. I suppose it's a job, but what a humiliating one. I turned over to Al Jazeera as soon as I realised what was being talked about.

EarthboundMisfit · 11/06/2016 16:45

I'd much prefer thgthge monarchy be abolished, but I enjoyed the birthday party at the DCs' school all the same=-O

icanteven · 11/06/2016 16:47

Nothing on my FB at all. Lots of non-British friends and probable republicans. :)

TheHiphopopotamus · 11/06/2016 16:52

What do all these people who loathe the monarchy think would happen if we got shut?

They'd still be there and they'd still have all their money. It would hardly be a French Revolution style cull.

If you don't want to see it on the telly, turn the bloody thing off. Or even turn the channel over. I've had the telly on all day and managed to not come across it once. It is not difficult to avoid at all.

NedStarksHead · 11/06/2016 16:54

If there IS an I hate the queen group please sign me up immediately!

LaConnerie · 11/06/2016 16:56

I agree with you op. I hate that I don't seem to be able to escape from the 'celebrations', unless I switch off the tv, radio, internet connection and don't leave the house - because of all the bloody bunting in the village.

I was watching BBC news yesterday and the arse-kissing reporters made me want to vomit.

And what really pisses me off is the assumption that we are all celebrating this together, particularly in the BBC's reporting, where it's all about 'the nation celebrating' and 'the Queen's subjects'. Oh do fuck off with it all. If the ungrateful overpriviliged woman could raise a smile amongst it all her face would crack.

The football is a welcome distraction from all the bollocks and that's saying something Grin

Orda1 · 11/06/2016 16:57

Her actual birthday was in May, this official one is in the hope of better weather.

She's worked her whole life, she doesn't just wave and sit in the back of cars. She's spent her whole life serving us, can you say you have?

MrsSpecter · 11/06/2016 16:57

If there IS an I hate the queen group please sign me up immediately

So keen you havent even looked for it yourself? Grin

Orda1 · 11/06/2016 16:58

April* no idea why I wrote may.

Orda1 · 11/06/2016 16:59

Army way the footie is on, get your priorities right OP

Orda1 · 11/06/2016 16:59

Ffs, anyway*

MadeMan · 11/06/2016 17:00

I'd much rather the media hype up the Queen's multiple birthdays, than once again hype up the England squad winning the Euros/World Cup/getting to number one in the charts with crappy football song, etc, etc...

HarryPlopperChopper · 11/06/2016 17:02

Ynbu who care

seagaze · 11/06/2016 17:05

It's easy to do when you stop giving a. Shit about things and people you don't personally know That should work both ways then, why do lots of people fawn over someone they don't know. Why all the celebrations over someone we don't know but keep throwing money at
