I'm seeing more amd more ridiculous "God save the queen" type posts on Facebook. Aibu to be sick and tired of it all. She's 90, big deal, lots didn't get to that age because of a lifetimes poverty and hard work. I mean real work not signing a few papers and getting chauffeured about.

Good grief Dallas such intense devotion and pride....the queen would be delighted with you.

Not just the Queen that is delighted with Eve, that's why she had such a marvellous payout to thank her for her service and a healthy pension to see her throughout the rest of her life.

"Yes...but does that mean people who are Republicans can't join the Forces if they don't agree with the Monarchy?"

No, because the oath covers both heirs (continuing with the monarchy) and successors (any other new arrangements, which could encompass a republic).

Members of the Armed Forces are allowed to have any viewpoint they like on any matter they like. Including campaigning for a republic. But they have to stop short of any illegal or seditious acts to overturn parliamentary democracy, or any legally constituted government.

Not that I think there's a serious risk of a coup in the UK - you'd never get the Navy, Army and Air Force to agree with each other for long enough to pull it off.

I wonder if the queen rewards or even cares about the soldiers who've lost limbs and can't get employment, or when they get their benefits suspended for not doing enough to find work, you know that lady who the soldier swore allegiance to. Hmm, tricky one that.

I'm guessing she does care..... Most decent people do

seagaze · 12/06/2016 22:31

That doesn't put food on the table though. Imagine the scenario, poor soldier discharged from the army, lost both legs, struggling to get money after serving queen and country. Not to worry lad, there's nothing for you but guess what the queen "cares" about you. I can only imagine his response.

A soldier medically discharged following devastating injury receives an immediate pension. He/She can also claim from the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme, or take out a personal compensation claim. They are entitled to War Pensions on top of their immediate pension and assistance with suitable accommodation.

No, it's not enough. It never will be, but that is the 'fault' of successive Governments, not the Queen. Members of the Royal Family support numerous military charities (like Invictus, the RBL, H4H, Combat Stress, The ABF, RAFBF, RNBF and SSAFA) and help to garner monetary support that should be coming from our Government, honouring the Military Covenant, but sadly failing.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to blame the Queen for that?

seagaze · 12/06/2016 23:00

So it's really nothing to do with the queen then, that's why I find it absurd that she's head of the armed forces. It's just nonsensical They don't need a figure head.

I was medically discharged from the forces last year actually.
I did my resettlement at a place with lots of wounded & injured service people & veterans.

Prince Harry does quite a lot there btw - and the access to a huge array of forms of support was (and still is) unbelievable.
