DS is at a friend's house for a sleepover. The mother just text me to say he's been great, they've had a great time and they had a Chinese for dinner, so I can give her the money for his meal 'tomorrow, or whenever I have it.'

Some people here are so melodramatic! Stop my son from going there? Eh no, It's his best friend's house. Even if I fell out with the mum I wouldn't stop him from playing with his friend. In any case, she didn't mention anything about it. I'm sticking with it being a joke and not thinking anymore about it. She's usually a lovely woman who is incredibly kind, so even if she was being serious I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and call it a lapse in judgment.

Don't cheapen yourself. Give her the money without comment, and be grateful that you yourself aren't so ill-mannered and socially inept as she would appear to be.

If you feel petty, then ruin your child's friendship by telling him he can't have her child over for dinner any more. If on the other hand you feel you've got the generosity of spirit, let things continue as normal, but also when you give her the money for the Chinese, do say you'd prefer she didn't do takeaway when she has your child, as you don't think it agrees with him.
