Cancelling a week before wedding

I am fuming for my sister-her wedding is a week today and a guest has cancelled due to a football match

They said cant be helped we're in the play offs-They RSVP'd months ago and have no cancelled a week before the wedding

They were all day guests him and his son

I think its completely out of order and he doesnt even seem bothered

More of a rant really but im not being unreasonable am i?

Why are you fuming? Is your sister bothered? It's only two people I'm sure they can sort the table out.

They wouldn't have known they were going to be in the play offs when they RSVPef presumably.

Is he a close friend/relative?

It's rude, but why are you fuming? These things happen, at least they have told your sister now and just not bothered to turn up, which happens a lot

yes she is bothered -this is a cousin of ours and his son not just soeone to fill the numbers

theyve known about this for months and his attitude was well we didnt know we'd get this far in the football

theres no thought for anyone-other people could have been invited instead and i personally think its exptremely rude

my sister has made her feelings clear to him im just venting i guess

I'd have preferred the person we'd spent £80 on telling me a week prior so I could try to find a replacement rather than just not showing up, as he did (and didn't contact me at any point afterwards to apologise either!).

Rude, but loads better than just failing to show.

It's very rude but it's not the end of the world.

To be honest I'd rather know now that the people who were going to be there weren't actually that bothered.

It's not necessary to be fuming but I too would be irked.

Is the son the one that's playing football? How old is he? I'm sure they can bump a couple of night guests up.

As the parent of footballing teens I can sympathise that he wouldn't have known how far they would get until now.

Is it the son or the Dad that plays?

wow hungry that is rude-yes theyve let her know i apreciate that-we dont have alot of family left i think shes just upset tha he doesnt really care

no feckin theyre going to watch the football not play-the son is 11

They can still extend the invite to someone else. A guest of ours was delighted to be "bumped up" from evening to all day with a week's notice.

Not sure why people think either of them are playing, I'd assume they were just watching.

It's a bit annoying but not worth fuming over. Especially as it's not even your own wedding.

It is rude but at least there is still a bit of time for perhaps someone else to have the meal or make adjustments.

My DH's uncle just didn't turn up to our wedding having RSVPed yes. His wife told us something about the dog being unwell. During a conversation with MIL not long ago about what an unpleasant man he is generally, she let slip he'd just fancied playing golf that day instead Shock

I assumed they were playing because my two play and they take it very seriously, and would want to play over going to a wedding every time.

Very rude of the guests to cancel now, however at least they have actually told your sister. There isn't much to be done about it unfortunately.

As an aside, I read this as a town/city football team getting to the playoff's not as a children's league (sorry for any incorrect terminology, I don't follow football at all). I know our local team have gotten to Wembley and no one thought they would, damn annoying as it is all the local towns people can talk about!

Extremely rude, yes. I had cancellation the night before which I've since found out was due to mh issues and they just couldnt face it so I've forgiven them.

It won't matter on the day. At least I hope it won't.

They're going to watch football instead of going to a family member's wedding? I'd be fuming too- priorities???!!!

Calm down. YABU reacting like this.

Football is more important to them than the invitation to the wedding. But that's their call! Yes, they could have qualified their acceptance with 'unless we're in the play off', but it wouldn't have made any practical difference.

They did want to go to your sisters wedding they just need to do this more. That's ok, people have lives. Anyone organising any event has to know that there will be drop outs.

Believe me my sister is more annoyed than me

our mother has passed so has her DF no grandparents either our cousins are all thats left
