I know a great cake maker and placed an order but when she found out, her mum wanted me to cancel and to choose one herself.

Don't be ridiculous. You overstepped the mark, of course her Mother wants to choose it and order it.

CrazyDuchess · 27/04/2016 14:41

Yup YABU - should have asked mum first

Bejeena · 27/04/2016 14:41

Yes as a mother I wouldn't be happy with that myself I like making the cakes myself

Cynara · 27/04/2016 14:41

This is a reverse, isn't it?

EponasWildDaughter · 27/04/2016 14:41

YABU i'm afaid.
It's her baby's first birthday. Of course she wants to choose it herself!

TurnOffTheTv · 27/04/2016 14:42

Ah fuck have I been sucked into another troll thread?

EponasWildDaughter · 27/04/2016 14:42

oh

reverse. has to be.

AliceInUnderpants · 27/04/2016 14:42

Here, make her some Biscuit instead

TurnOffTheTv · 27/04/2016 14:42

Or a reverse?

RattieOfCatan · 27/04/2016 14:43

Yabu. It's her child's first birthday! It's her (and the other parents) choice what cake she gets for her!

MooningIntoTheAbyss · 27/04/2016 14:44

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm the mum. Had to just make sure I wasn't a bitch. And I can spell niece.
I didn't pitch a fit. Just said...ahhh we probably want to organise that from this end. It's a once in a lifetime kind of thing.
There's precedent - my birth card from her was 'Congratulations on the birth of my beautiful niece'. Not quite over that one yet.

KurriKurri · 27/04/2016 14:46

No yanbu - order the cake, buy all the presents, hold the party at your house, and don't invite her parents - you're an Aunty that's your job.

pigsDOfly · 27/04/2016 14:47

Reverse.

MitzyLeFrouf · 27/04/2016 14:47

What a cheeky mother, wanting to buy her own daughter's first birthday cake.

Next she'll be kicking up a fuss when you take your niece for her first haircut.

TurnOffTheTv · 27/04/2016 14:47

Did it really need to be a reverse?

AbernathysFringe · 27/04/2016 14:48

Mitzy shudders with terror

EponasWildDaughter · 27/04/2016 14:48

I thought reverses were bit old hat now.

Never mind.

No, you're not being unreasonable OP.

AbernathysFringe · 27/04/2016 14:49

TurnOff Probably not, just wanted to know if her way of thinking had any supporters.

LittleLionMansMummy · 27/04/2016 14:50

Yanbu for feeling this way. Yabu for three reverse. I suspect the outcome would have been the same had you come clean from the start.

NotSleepyAtAll · 27/04/2016 14:50

'Congratulations on the birth of my beautiful niece' Grin

That's very funny, but kinda sweet too. She is clearly coming from a good place and adores your DD! Just needs to rein it in a bit a lot !!

LittleLionMansMummy · 27/04/2016 14:51

the reverse. Why my fucking phone keeps thinking I want to spell 'three' instead is beyond me.

MitzyLeFrouf · 27/04/2016 14:51

'Congratulations on the birth of my beautiful niece'

I quite like that!
