Lahore bombing - where is Christian god?

lulucappuccino · 28/03/2016 14:16

Ok, I know this is a very clichéd question, but 70+ people, mainly children, brutally murdered at a Christian, Easter celebration.

Families gone. Lives shattered. Unbearable pain.

WHY would god allow this?

Aibu to think this sort of thing proves there is no Christian god. Or if there is, "he's" not a good force?

So goady.

Where was Allah when the bomb went off in Irag a couple of days ago? Is there no Allah either, or is your condemnation really so one sided?

Shall I tell you a really shocking thing? 'Christian God' doesn't just care about Christians so is in exactly the same place when anyone gets killed.

ClopySow · 28/03/2016 14:37

Apparently it's because he allows us to have free choice and it's a consequence of our disobediance. Or at least that's how it's justified.

My explanation would be that there is no god.

nebulae · 28/03/2016 14:39

YANBU to believe there is no god (christian or otherwise).

YABU to think this event proves it. You can't prove god doesn't exist. Though there isn't a shred of evidence to prove god does exist.

LettingAgentNightmare · 28/03/2016 14:40

How is free choice a punishment?

If someone blows themselves up, they have made a choice, God didn't ask them to do it. We have the freedom, we face the consequences. Most 'bad things' are a direct result of personal choices made by people.

Again, why does this only apply to Christian God?

Osolea · 28/03/2016 14:42

YABU to think something like this has anything to do with proof about anything.

Terrible things have been happening for centuries, there is a huge amount of suffering and pain in the world on every day of the year, the fact that some of it started on the man made date of Easter doesn't make it any worse than if it happened on other days.

WorraLiberty · 28/03/2016 14:44

FFS

Why did God allow you to start this goady thread OP?

ClopySow · 28/03/2016 14:48

No, free choice was given and many humans chose disobediance. Suffering is a punishment for choosing to disobey. Apparently.

catgirl1976 · 28/03/2016 14:52

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”

Epicurius has this nailed IMO

Oh FFS.

People did this. Wicked evil people who want to kill and maim and hurt society. And because only brave "lions" and righteous "soldiers" can attack unarmed civilians in a park or on a beach or in a concert hall.

Regardless of whether one believes in God or not, this had nothing to do with God.

lulucappuccino · 28/03/2016 15:16

A few biscuits and use of the word "goady" is meaningless.

I would say that god must be an evil bastard if he'd allow things like this to happen to innocent people.

Same for any deity.

Either that, or they just don't exist at all.

evilcherub · 28/03/2016 15:36

The bombing was by Islamic terrorists (Taliban affiliated). In my opinion this says more about their interpretation of their Islamic "god" than any Christian god. What kind of god is so fragile that he gets offended by those who worship him under another name and expects his followers to kill for him? I would not call that a god worth worshipping. And I find it strange that the murder of 70 Christians, mostly young children, is hardly mentioned in the Western media yet if this had happened in Palestine or Iraq or Syria then it would be world news. The ethnic cleansing of the Christians (and non-Muslim population) of the Middle East and Asia is an absolute disgrace and it is shameful that nobody is discussing it, even though it amounts to genocide.

BlueMoonRising · 28/03/2016 15:49

There's plenty of Christian terrorists too.

Look into anti-balaka, for example, and what they carried out in the central African republic two years ago.

You'd think a Christian good would want to stop things like that being carried out in his name.

Slowlygettingthehangofthings · 28/03/2016 15:50

I don't think the OP was being goady at all. I was raised to be Christian but its seeing innocents like little children suffering in the world that has caused me to lose my faith. Its the oldest question, isn't it - why does a benevolent god allow suffering? I have heard the whole "suffering is a consequence of free will" argument, but what about the boxing day tsunami? What about all the children born with malformations and those dying of cancer? The only conclusion I can come to is that there is no god such as the one described in the Bible. Which is quite sad, actually.

Sallyingforth · 28/03/2016 16:05

Some strange comments here.
Christians, Jews and Muslims all recognise and worship the same God.
All three faiths have many different sects, e.g. Protestant and Catholic, Sunni and Shia to name but a few.
All faiths and sects have different ways of serving their God. Unfortunately some still seem to think they have to be violent to do so.

LettingAgentNightmare · 28/03/2016 16:44

If it's the same God, why did OP very specially state a Christian God?

Also, no answer as to why the mass murder in Iraq means all Muslims should accept there is no Allah.... It's almost like the OP didn't actually think the statement though.

AdrenalineFudge · 28/03/2016 16:47

There are so many many reasons why your premise is incorrect. But in the interest of time and my sanity, I'll just say that Yabu.

CockacidalManiac · 28/03/2016 16:50

Some people do good things because of their religion, some people do evil things. You can hardly blame a God that I personally don't think exists.

LettingAgentNightmare · 28/03/2016 16:54

It's funny that if someone came and said 'all Muslims are evil as some blow themselves up and kill others for their God' there would be outrage, and rightly so. But when a non Christian blows themselves up, killing others, it's the Christian God that is at fault.

CockacidalManiac · 28/03/2016 16:55

Although I am very fond of the Epicurus approach too. Two thousand years on, and we're pretty much in the same place.

ClopySow · 28/03/2016 16:56

I think "why" is a pretty normal reaction to pointless human suffering. Isn't that what we have religion for? To keep the (mainly poor) masses happy in the belief that life will be shit but there's something great at the end? Otherwise what would be the point.

ghostyslovesheep · 28/03/2016 16:58

people have free will - they have laws they should follow - some don't

massively goady post - God doesn't control human behaviour

ClopySow · 28/03/2016 16:59

Well yes, it would be a christian god at fault in the western world because that's the dominant religion and they don't believe in any other god, so blaming allah would be admitting that there is another god.

BartholinsSister · 28/03/2016 16:59

Either god is a twat, or doesn't exist.

HairyBoob · 28/03/2016 17:01

I don't think it's a goady question. It's one to which there isn't a half decent answer, therefore the thread is slapped with the aforementioned label. Much easier to offer the OP a Biscuit than ponder why a God would allow a load of children to be blown up.
