Lahore bombing - where is Christian god?

lulucappuccino · 28/03/2016 14:16

Ok, I know this is a very clichéd question, but 70+ people, mainly children, brutally murdered at a Christian, Easter celebration.

Families gone. Lives shattered. Unbearable pain.

WHY would god allow this?

Aibu to think this sort of thing proves there is no Christian god. Or if there is, "he's" not a good force?

Yes, but a Christian God doesn't tell you that. Where in the Bible does it say 'go on a massive rampage and get 37 Virgins and a spot in a Heaven' ? Nowhere.

CockacidalManiac · 28/03/2016 19:04

Crusades? The Inquisition? Myriad Protestant-Catholic wars that devastated much of Europe over the past few centuries? Protestant pastors flirting with the Nazis? Army Padres waving soldiers off to war in the name of God, King and Country'?

CockacidalManiac · 28/03/2016 19:05

Plus all the constant 'smiling of thine enemies' as seen in the OT..

LettingAgentNightmare · 28/03/2016 19:05

Where does it say in the Bible that mass killing gets you virgins and Heaven?

Plus all the Christian lunatics in the US that only support Israel because they think it will speed up the End Times.

WantFriesWithThat · 28/03/2016 19:07

Think it's quite interesting that as a victim of religious attack, my opinions have been ignored. Because I profess to still have a faith?

You know why? Being a victim does not give a special God given insight. Your view is worth no more than anyone else's. Plus it reads like a Thought For The Day.

ghostyslovesheep · 28/03/2016 19:12

I'm not cherry picking Hmm I'm offering some balance to your bigotted argument against all people of faith

CockacidalManiac · 28/03/2016 19:14

You ARE cherry picking, it's a weak argument and you know it. That's why you're resorting to throwing stuff like 'bigotted' and 'goady' about.

ghostyslovesheep · 28/03/2016 19:18

I disagree - and I think your views ARE bigoted and intolerant - pretty much sums up the whole scale dismissal of peoples faith, their right to freedom of belief, and your view that they are all out to oppress you

WantFriesWithThat · 28/03/2016 19:20

Being a victim DOES give me an insight. It gives me an insight into being injured and having to face years of recovery. Your comment to me is incredibly offensive. I sincerely wish you never have to face the trauma we have cock I'm sorry if you think it reads like Thought of the Day I will remember that when i next meet up with the children whose parents were killed I this attack. As you were cock hope the view is nice from your ivory tower

CockacidalManiac · 28/03/2016 19:20

It's not me that's resorted to name calling though, is it?
'Some religious people are good, therefore religion cannot be evil'
I'm sure there were some quite delightful Communists, and Fascists. The were still complicit in evil regimes.

CockacidalManiac · 28/03/2016 19:21

Not into religion though, which is what is being discussed here.

CockacidalManiac · 28/03/2016 19:23

You have the right to be offended. I'm not going to try and kill you for stating that. Thereby lies the difference.

WantFriesWithThat · 28/03/2016 19:23

When the bomb was planted by religious fanatics .......really? ?!!

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/03/2016 19:24

Wantfries, I too am from NI. And I too was caught up (for want of a better phrase) in a number of violent incidents, in the the worst, I was trapped in a building that was being bombed. 3 detonated before I could get out. But I did get out. Shaken, but uninjured. I'm sorry for your injuries. Thanks

What my experience of the Troubles and living in NI has taught me is that intolerance for differing beliefs can be and is used by the power hungry to incite others to violence.

I am saddened when I see it happening between sects, different faiths and those of no faith and faith, because it is this Othering, Blame and Fearmongering that leads to violence.Sad

CockacidalManiac · 28/03/2016 19:27

It's too easy to be professionally offended, and to shut down discussion by throwing names around. I've looked through my posts, I've not personally called anyone any names. I'm just mounting a robust defence of the right to live a life away from the pernicious influences of religion.

Ok cock I get what you are saying there
My point was that although what was done to me was in the name of "religion" I knew it wasn't right BUT that didn't mean that I no longer believe. What I am trying to say that there is good and bad on all sides. I chose to put my faith in the good

The reason I am posting this is because I have been effected with terrorism, from those who claim to be acting in God's name but I know they aren't and have the scars to prove it.

You don't know that they weren't acting in God's name, and you've just called them 'religious fanatics' too. Which one is it?

CockacidalManiac · 28/03/2016 19:32

The good does not have to be religion. And that's the bit that really gets my goat. There is always always an assumption that those of no faith are bad.

Well, yes. Those of us who do good despite having no God, have no eternal reward to look forward to either.

pickmeupputmedown · 28/03/2016 19:33

I think I will start a thread - Lahore bombing - where is Islamic God?

As both Christians and Muslims were killed and injured in this terrible situation, why did OP ask just Christians ?

FWIW I am a Christian, I believe because I want to. Some people do not believe because they do not want to. That does not make either of us delusional, simple or any other name that some come up with.
