Got that off my chest.

I don't hate them. I think some of their policies have been O.K.
I am however slightly chilled as we appear to be moving towards a one party nation and a bit gobsmacked that so many people seem to think that it's somehow a good idea.
I'm also slightly irritated that they appear to assume that people don't know what's best for them. There's a growing level of interference that I find a touch sinister, particularly when it's likely there will be no valid opposition in Parliament.
The most irritating thing by far though is that friggin advert to encourage parents to feed their weans vegetables. 'We call peas green footballs and brocolli little trees'. That's clearly where I've been going wrong wrong then as my fussy as feck 5 year old wants chips again.
Never mind there'll be another patronising advert along soon encouraging me to play with/read to/talk to my child.

Scotland isn't a one party nation. Rather than attacking the snp the other parties should consider appealing to voters.

We're hardly a one-party state. Have other parties been banned? It's hardly the fault of the SNP that the other parties aren't attracting votes.

Whatever the reason behind it Scotland is undeniably heading towards becoming a one party nation. Whether that's because the SNP are fabulous and the other parties are currently a bit shit, it's a dangerous scenario. People aren't thinking things through.

Agree twoot - the pledge for MPs /MSPs to all have to vote together no matter also smacks of control.
Worrying. Free thought and the right to disagree doesn't seem to apply to SNP MPs and MSPs. Very odd and spectacularly undemocratic.

So should we vote for parties we don't agree with to avoid the dreadful scenario of having slightly over 50% of our MSPs from one party?

Twooter, the vast majority of politicians vote with their party. That's the point of the party system. If people don't like that they should vote for independent candidates.

Wonk - you're missing the point I'm trying to make. I'm not debating why people vote the way they do - I'm stating my opinion that having no opposition party to Government when that Government has so much control over it's elected members is a touch worrying.
Plenty of MPs in Parliament voice opposite opinions to the party line. That's why the whip has a job to do. That's wholly democratic and as it should be.

But again, the lack of a credible opposition is no reason to dislike the SNP. It's not their fault that Labour imploded. And I don't remember this anxiety over a one-party state in the decades when a monkey in a red rosette could get elected in most Scottish constituencies.

I don't understand the objection to politicians voting with their party either. In the Scottish Parliament the SNP have a very small majority. Governments with small majorities get very few rebels because the consequences are more drastic. In Westminster they are the only proper representatives for Scotland and choose to present a united face. I don't see what's wrong with that?

I actually want MSPs to vote with their party, because then I wouldn't have an MSP who voted against my right to be married to the person I love.

What chills me is that, no matter what the snp do there are people trying to make excuses for them. Mindless adoration even when they are making a right mess of education, the police etc etc. It's not normal. When are people going to open their eyes?

Even with the latest figures from GERs that clearly show we'd be starting from a terrible position of yes voters had got their way, people are still trotting out the brainwashed party line. I hope the tide has started to turn and the snp are on the wane, but it doesn't seem that way. It's terrifying!

I am pretty unhappy at the latest announcement that they are pushing for independence again again. No, I don't want an independent Scotland. I found indyref hell before and I felt massively pressured and under attack for being openly "no" then. I was grateful when it ended and I don't trust Sturgeon when she says she wants to "patiently and respectfully" persuade those who vote no.

You are definitely not being unreasonable - after all, history has shown us before that socialism and nationalism make toxic bedfellows...

On the other hand, it's always amusing to watch their intellectual inconsistency: being ruled by London is undemocratic, being ruled by Brussels is desirable, for example

I'm not a Scottish resident though so it's not my business I guess.m, except in the sense that the SNP's behaviour affects the whole UK.

The implications are worrying. Opposition and the right to object/speak freely is always a better option.
The mass compliance displayed by SNP elected members and many of the supporters is quite frankly odd. Start asking difficult questions people!

The SNP are going to make England, Wales and NI be one party nation. There will not be enough Labour voters left. The smug SNP voters don't care about that though as Scotland is getting more control eg there welfare system will be different. It is a good thing for Scotland but very selfish.

Its not unreasonable to hate a political party that doesn't align to your ideas. I hate the Tories for that very reason. It is unreasonable (and pretty fucking petty) to hate a political party because they have an annoying advert. Or because they implement a strict party whip. (Why does it bother you what they implement within their own party, your not voting for them are you?). As for the one party state comment, what do people suggest? Forcing SNP voters to vote for another party? Disbanding the SNP because they are too popular? You surely cant hate the SNP because Labour and Tories are too incompetent to oppose them? Thats hardly the fault of the SNP.
