Got that off my chest.

I have to admit I do have a wee soft spot for Ruth :)

Behooven · 13/03/2016 22:27

Smugness isn't a flattering trait itsall

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/03/2016 22:28

behooven ?

QueenLaBeefah · 13/03/2016 22:29

Yy quite like Ruth is alright. Kezia has potential.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/03/2016 22:30

I liked Annabel Goldie too but not as much as i like Ruth Imo the Scottish Tory leaders are always much better than the RUK ones.

trixymalixy · 13/03/2016 22:31

I'm not a fan of kezia, despite potentially voting labour. Conversely I like ruth, but could never ever bring myself to vote Tory.

Behooven · 13/03/2016 22:32

Sorry itsall wasn't you, I'm mixing my threads up

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/03/2016 22:32

I'd actually agree re the Scottish Tory leaders - Ruth Davidson really grew on me during Referendum 1 (might as well start numbering them for ease...)

trixymalixy · 13/03/2016 22:33

I like Anabell goodie too. As much as I hate the snp, I have some admiration for sturgeon and I really like seeing women st the top of Scottish politics.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/03/2016 22:35

I think Kezia was made leader too soon. She did well in some of the referendum debates but then just seemed to slip into the wider Labour party malaise. She should ask Ruth for tips on how to carve out a decent reputation in spite of the antics of your London party

trixymalixy · 13/03/2016 22:36

Agree. Kezia a bit too inexperienced.

QueenLaBeefah · 13/03/2016 22:38

TBF Kezia took over a complete mess. Labour had just been in charge too long in Scotland and was chock full of dross ( SNP will be like this in 2 or 3 yrs time). She has improved in the past few months.

trixymalixy · 13/03/2016 22:41

She did get handed a bit of a poisoned chalice. I'm wary of her more because I haven't heard good things about her from sources within the Labour Party. She doesn't sound like a particularly nice person, but there may be some bias there, so taking it with a pinch of salt.

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/03/2016 22:43

It is nice that Scottish politics has so many high flying woman and I have to respect Sturgeon for getting there. I respect Thatcher for getting to PM too, but I know that admitting that is practically a shooting offence on here!

Sturgeon is someone who I feel performs/comes across much better when sh isn't talking about independence. As soon as it's an indy-related debate it's a whole different ball game. She performed way better (IMO) in the debates leading up to the GE than those for Ref 1. Her vs Johann Lamont, for example, was truly ghastly.

Having met her in person though she is very polished at handling the media. And not quite so polished with small children and animals Grin

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/03/2016 22:43

I think Kezia is failing rather than improving. She really needs to define a position for herself and SLab independent of the current train wreck of Labour in the RUK.

QueenLaBeefah · 13/03/2016 22:43

Are any politicians nice? Grin always thought it a very odd career choice.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/03/2016 22:44

Did you see that really harsh thing she had to do on a TV chat show recently where she had to put all the Scottish Labour leaders in order in a timeline? Scottish Labour really need to sort themselves out, I cant help thinking that ironically, Independence from rUK Labour would be their best bet.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/03/2016 22:45

Are any politicians nice? grin always thought it a very odd career choice.

Indeed. I always thinking that wanting to be PM should bar you from the job - being an MP should be like doing jury duty where you get called up.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 13/03/2016 22:45

I think Kezia is doing a good job, I'm a Corbyn fan too. They have a long struggle ahead of them to rebuild the party, but I'm backing them to do it.

My excellent previous MP was a lib dem, they of course completely deserved the kicking they got as a party at the last GE but it's more than a little frustrating that a great MP lost his seat to Michelle Thomson who has resigned the whip and is still being investigated by the police. Or is that me falling for SnpbadMSM again Hmm

AgentProvocateur · 13/03/2016 22:46

I agree that Ruth Davidson is a good politician (and genuinely kind and funny IRL, according to a mutual friend). I also liked Annabel Goldie.

I don't like Kezia, and don't rate her as a politician, but she did get the shitty end of the stick. I predict that Slab will get fewer seats than anyone thinks possible, and that the Greens will do well. After that, Kezia will resign, but I'm not sure that there's anyone of any substance to replace her, unless one of defeated Labour MPs (Douglas Alexander?) throws their hat into the ring.

QueenLaBeefah · 13/03/2016 22:48

Yes, I lost my previous extremely capable MP (labour) to a chancer (no other way to describe him) SNP candidate. Very frustrating. So far he has been a damp squib.

QueenLaBeefah · 13/03/2016 22:50

Not a fan of Corbyn - such a shame Dan Jarvis didn't go for the top job.

trixymalixy · 13/03/2016 22:50

Aplace I actually thought kezia made a stunning move with the penny on income tax. Total surprise to everyone and really caught the SNP out. She went up in my estimation. Although I am giving her credit for it, It may not have been her idea...

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/03/2016 22:50

In my previous career I met quite a few politicians. All the Scottish leaders came across well except Patrick Harvey. He was patronising and sexist and so lacking in self-awareness that he didn't even realise that was how he came across.

The politician who surprised me the most was Gordon Brown. He was much more eloquent and charismatic than I thought he would be.

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/03/2016 22:50

Even though I don't think she's exactly awesome I think Kezia resigning would be a really bad idea. I know the political norm is to resign when you lose an election BUT there's not exactly a big pool to choose from in Scottish Labour and they've gone through so many leaders recently that I think they would actually be better leaving her in place and letting her build up more of a political presence and reputation. It would be different if there was a big name available to replace her but at the moment there isn't really anyone obvious.
