AIBU to not give DD a pile of gifts for Easter?

DD is 7 and will receive an egg, an Easter cuddly and maybe a couple of Easter themed trinket type things if I see anything nice. But I know on Easter Sunday Facebook will be filled with photographs of piles of stuff that give Christmas a run for it's money. Am I being mean? It was a single egg in my day...

No one I know gives loads of Easter gifts, only an egg or two. You already give more than any of my friends would give their kids.

What, presents for Easter?

I've never heard anything so ridiculous. I got eggs but was given the option by my auntie to have the money instead if I thought it too much chocolate, so £2 or so.

NBU. I don't know anyone who gets anything other than eggs from various well-meaning relatives. DS's are getting a chocolate bunny from us plus whatever haul they manage from the local easter egg hunt.

Mine don't want the eggs.

They've wised up and prefer to just have some f their favourite sweets/chocolate in the everyday packaging as they'll get more for the money.... Grin

I don't buy them any other gifts.

Mine get an egg. Everyone I buy for (nieces and nephews) get an egg. What are the gifts for?!

It's an egg. It's not Christmas or a birthday.

I find it odd that it has become a gift giving exercise that stresses parents out.

Nope, don't get mine anything. They will likely get an egg, or money, from friends/relatives, but that's it.

Although mil sometimes buys proper "presents" which I'm not keen on.

when mine are babies they get an easter themed gift when they are old enough for an egg they get ONE egg some parents give four why really WHY?

You are NBU at all! You do what you want to do and do not be influenced or made to feel guilty by others. Easter was always about eggs when I was growing up and as you say, is fast turning into Christmas with buying lots of unnecessary things. I am buying one big egg for my DS and DD this year and maybe a little soft toy (they are 12 and 10) and that's it. I know full well that they are likely to get chocolate from others in the family too.

Mine do an Easter egg hunt. Even the 17 year old would be disappointed if she couldn't do it :o

So hollow eggs to find and a big chocolate rabbit as their main egg. That's it.

Do what you want! Get them 29 presents or nothing or one chocolate egg or whatever you want- why compete or compare with anyone else? Did any of these anxieties exist before Facebook over sharing?!

Don't judge what others do. We have a massive family so ds gets far too many eggs, so I use them for his Easter hunt and buy him a little something from me. A new scooter, a watch, science kit, something along those lines.

I think you're going way over the top on the most important festival in the Christian calendar. For most people it's still an egg and Ben-Hur after a lunch of roast lamb.

We do am Easter egg hunt for for my 3 dc and nephews. Everyone brings up some eggs and we hide them all over the garden. Sometimes I put a couple of arty things in that have been going cheap in Hobbycraft, but that's more to entertain them during the holidays!! My MIL never buys the kids eggs, but always gets them a new tshirt instead.

I might be the odd one out here, but there is a reason. Our DD has a birthday very, very near Christmas. So once she's got her Christmas presents, birthday is very much a low-key affair and always has been - hence we make a fuss of her at Easter. I'm not talking many presents, but just a few so that she doesn't have to wait 12 months before her next lot of gifts. Each to their own I think. (And I will admit that I love giving presents anyway).

My DDs get:

An egg and medium Lindt bunny from us
An egg from GPs
An easter egg hunt with those tiny eggs
Possibly an egg from uncle if we see him.

Definitely no presents, cuddlies, money or trinkets.

I like Easter, because it doesn't have the pressure or the expectation of Christmas. Please don't let it go the same way. Mine will just get chocolate eggs. Keep it simple.

Mine get an easter egg hunt. We dont even give them an egg because at 4.5 there is such a thing as too much chocolate and they tend to get one from grandparents and aunties.

Mine gets an egg (or a Lindt carrot) from me, plus the option of toasted hot cross buns for breakfast instead of toast.

I have never heard of the presents thing, and think it's utterly ridiculous.

I do like limitedperiodonly's suggestion of Ben Hur after roast lamb, though.
