AIBU to not give DD a pile of gifts for Easter?

DD is 7 and will receive an egg, an Easter cuddly and maybe a couple of Easter themed trinket type things if I see anything nice. But I know on Easter Sunday Facebook will be filled with photographs of piles of stuff that give Christmas a run for it's money. Am I being mean? It was a single egg in my day...

My children still speak wistfully of the time the Easter Bunny brought them toys instead of eggs. The regular bunny had delegated egg-bringing duties to an alternative bunny, who was confident the shelves would still be creaking with chocolate at 8.30 on Saturday evening...

When my DC were little they got a bunny/chick decorated pen or one of those trembly palm pets (they cheep)

I buy an Easter Bag , they have some eggs ( maybe two large, a Lindt rabbit and some mini ones) but they last ages. (They don't get eggs from anyone else though)

I might buy them new underwear too, just because .

I tend to give my daughters a new spring/summer dress or cardi or something (they would get new clothes around then anyway as they have grown). MIL gives them a small egg, one auntie normally gives them a small egg and my Mum gives them a bit of spending money for their money boxes.

Dd will be getting an egg hunt with gifts and choccy with every clue. (No self esteem problems here either).

I don't understand the vitriol towards people who do things differently?

Egg, gifts, nothing...surely it's all fine, whatever you want to do?

There are only toddler kids in our family right now so i do one small egg/lindt rabbit type thing, and an easter book/cuddly toy. Any more than that is daft. Some people just like to show off!

I got, and still get, an egg of m&d, and egg off grandparents and £5 ff my nana. No one I know buys their kids presents, just the egg.

Thanks for all the comments. No lacking in self-confidence here either, but just wondered whether I'd missed a 'thing'. We will have our hunt on Good Friday and bits and pieces of Easter craft, because what's a Bank Holiday without having to vacuum up glitter? But one egg and the cuddly it is. No socks though.

But isn't buying some gifts as a substitute to tons of chocolate?

mine will be getting less choclate this year but a board game as well.

My DD's first birthday is coming up so I was in Mothercare buying some bits (Toy Aeroplane, musical instruments and a sensory ball if your interested!).
The cashier asked me whether it was for someone's birthday or for Easter. I was ConfusedHmm
Chocolate egg is more than enough for Easter. Mind you MIL will give enough sweet things for a week long sugar high reminiscent of a toddler version of Fear and loathing in Las Vegas.
I just hide it all away and jump on it myself when I feel like sabotaging a diet.

Mine have an egg hunt. They are now 16, 14 and 12.

When they think they have found everything, they sit down and share it out. If it's not even, they go back and look for the what they have missed.

They always split the "treasure" equally.

It's so lovely to watch them do it.

Our almost 2 year old son has a pack of these from us for Easter. That's it.

Last time we went to his grandmas she gave us a Easter gift which is a toy wrapped up. We're not happy about Easter gifts but we haven't said anything yet. We're going to give him it at Easter, because that's why she bought it, but when we send her a picture of him playing with it we'll mention that we don't want this to be a regular thing. An egg is fine, toys are not. He's too young to have a clue at the moment anyway. Thankfully.

We used to get DS a book when he was litte, this changed to a computer or console game when he was older. We never bought easter eggs because he still ended up with about 6 from relatives.

Easter is my favourite holiday. No pressure to buy loads of stuff, just some chocolate and a nice lunch. I have never bought my children anything other than a couple of eggs each.

Easter presents/baskets are just another commercial import from the US/ My DDs used to get loads of stuff if we were over there with the ILs at Easter. We never got into it here. These days they have sophisticated taste in chocolate and would rather we just got really nice chocs for all of us instead.

We exchange eggs with immediate family (GPs and one auntie's family). Everyone ends up with about 4 eggs each. When there's been very small children some people would give small presents (eg book) instead of eggs to avoid a 1 year old ending up eating a pile of chocolate bigger than themselves. But that was instead, not as well.

I don't know anyone who buys big piles of Easter presents, at least not showing off on FB. Maybe you need to edit your friend's list

We only ever got eggs as kids and so far my dds have only ever had eggs. But this year they're a little chunkier than they should be and, as dd2 (4) is very keen on an Elsa coronation dress up that she's seen, I might break with tradition and get her that instead of an egg. More expensive yes but less sugar. I'm sure dd1 can be similarly bought.

I do buy gifts for my dc but there is a really valid reason Blush

My dd's birthday is Christmas Day and my ds is Christmas Eve and I tend to buy them birthday presents at Easter if that makes sense?

I don't see the point in buying them Christmas and birthday presents all at once and getting two sets of presents from everyone at Christmas because they all just merge into one anyway so I always get them the equivalent of birthday presents at Easter and so do my family.

But if they decided they wanted their presents all at once then they would just get an Easter egg off us on Easter Day.

Dd 6 will get a basket with a bunny , some plastic eggs filled with jellies and marshmallows.

She doesn't like chocolate

13y Dd will get an egg from us. She still likes chocolate eggs Grin

She already has eggs from my sister, my parents and and my grandparents, plus a couple from friends and a bit of money from PILs. So doesn't really need us to get one ether but feels mean not to and they have long dates on after all.

When she was smaller parents and PILs got her a book instead of chocolate. My sister has always gotten her a chocolate egg which Dd loves.
