and yes, i wanted a rescue. i actually had my eye on a 3-legged lab. but no dice.

CityFox · 19/02/2016 22:06

Our local rescue won't allow their dogs to go to families with young children, I'm assuming it's the same in lots of places?

Have what ever dog you like, but please stop with the 'labradoodle', 'shittypoo' 'pieceofcrapadoodle' shit. You sound ridiculous. You have a crossbred dog, just accept it and stop trying to pretend it is anything else.

CockwombleJeff · 19/02/2016 22:07

Each to their own surely ?

We've paid for a cockerpoo because they are truly fab pets - and yes it's great because my DH and DD with asthma enjoy her?

Why does it bother what dogs people have , how much they pay for them and what they call them ? Hmm

As long as they loved and cared for I don't see why you need to involve yourself in the issue !

lastuseraccount123 · 19/02/2016 22:07

city our shelters are also very tough. part of our issue is we wouldn't have the tme to properly exercise a larger dog. That's why i was looking at the 3legged dog, because he could only do limited exercise.

it's all about finding what fits your family, or in my case, what the one weak moment my OH had

I didn't list a single sighthound in the list of dogs in my care at the moment but don't let that put you off. Other than the lurcher pups of course but we aren't sure what their other half is yet so it'd be quite sillly to label them as sighthounds just yet.

ItWillWash · 19/02/2016 22:08

I thought all kinds of dogs ended up in rescues?

A facebook group I joined when we found our dog is full of rescue dogs needing homes. Everything from Akitas to Yorkies and everything in between.

I don't think it's right to breed while dogs are dying in rescues. I heard the other day that in Sweden it is illegal to breed a dog if there is one in a shelter. IDK if it's true, but it's a great idea.

CockwombleJeff · 19/02/2016 22:09

Raptor we adore our cockerpoo Smile she is such an affectionate happy little pet.

CityFox · 19/02/2016 22:09

You sound angry..

CockwombleJeff · 19/02/2016 22:10

Well at that rate let's all stop making babies whilst their are so many DC up for fostering / adoption .

TooOldForGlitter · 19/02/2016 22:10

It bothers me because I care about dogs. I mean, really, did that not come over? It bothers me that dogs are bred for cash and treated like toys and not walked or trained and then surrendered to rescues if they are lucky, and sold in Facebook if they are not. It bothers me that thousands of dogs are PTS so that others can buy crossbreeds from backyard breeders and puppy farms.

TooOldForGlitter · 19/02/2016 22:11

And yes, let's definitely compare human breeding to dog breeding. There's a logical jump.

GinIsIn · 19/02/2016 22:11

Midnight - why does it even matter?! It's their dog - they can call it whatever they like. It doesn't make their dog and better or worse than your dog or my dog - it's a dog !! If I call my dog a malshi, a shihtzu cross, a Maltese cross, a mongrel or my personal favourite - a shit-tease, she's still the same dog so who cares?

CityFox · 19/02/2016 22:12

Glitter, our local rescue won't rehome dogs to families with young children and other posters have said the same.

Izzadoraduncancan · 19/02/2016 22:12

Our pup is a Bernese crossed with an old English Sheepdog. She (a mongrel) was the product of a rampant affair conducted across a fence... We purchased her for the cost of her chipping and vaccines. We wanted a big dog - to full the big hole left by the passing of our ancient boxer - and she fitted the bill! So far she is great - bit she is NO pedigree - she is just a muppet!!

CockwombleJeff · 19/02/2016 22:12

Midnite honestly , focus on your own life not the lives of others.

You can't control other people - what you don't like is YOUR issue - not for other people to deal with .

Nothing wrong with a mongrel. I'd love a mongrel, a proper mongrel, one that you couldn't identify and breed going on in there, it was just a dog. No matter how much you pay for them and how much time you spend doing their hair, it's going to like nothing better than a good root through the bin and licking it's backside.

Personally I think people should save their disapproval for inbreeds pedigrees dogs like bulldogs and who can hardly breathe or walk.

And loads and loads of other rescues will home to people with young kids. Although, the majority of my re-homeable (new word?) dogs are from families who were super convinced they could manage toddlers and a puppy, so went and bought one.

rusticmeadowwildflower · 19/02/2016 22:16

Izza

Whatever she is - she's adorable!
