I have caused substantial vexation to a friend by putting my bin in the dishwasher

She asked why the top rack was on the bench.

I explained the kitchen bins were in there. She wasn't impressed as that meant the top spray wasn't working. I pointed out its the inside of the bin that needs cleaning not the outside.

She is uncomfortable with the dishwasher only operating with one spray.

I have clean bins with zero effort and can live with this.

AIBU .... Or should clean bins have taken effort and more water to clean?

How big is your dishwasher?!?! That is a pretty epic effort though, I'm impressed. Friend is just jealous of your ingenuity.

wigglybeezer · 15/01/2016 13:43

I wonder what she would make of me considering washing my loo seats in the dishwasher ( having belatedly relished they have a quick release mechanism)?

HoneyDragon · 15/01/2016 13:43

It's a standard size intergrated dishwasher

I'm jealous that your dishwasher is big enough to fit your bins in. I regularly put the kitchen bin lid in the dishwasher, but the bin itself (i.e, a full-sized kitchen bin big enough to hold a standard black sack) is too big.

HoneyDragon · 15/01/2016 13:44

I think she'd be fine with the toilet seats as long as you left the racks in

Oh what an excellent idea

Gazelda · 15/01/2016 19:44

Genius! I'm off to dishwash my bins right now. And my washing up bowl which is cheap and tomato stained.

Tamponlady · 15/01/2016 19:45

Yuk

TattyDevine · 15/01/2016 19:52

Yuk what? Inside bins is what? Dead food. On dishes is what? Dead food. Get over it! Its all yuck! And dishwashers use caustic tablets and virtually boiling water, with a steam cycle that is similar to a ...STERILISER. Geez.

HoneyDragon · 15/01/2016 19:58

This thread has prompted me to get the tape measure out, I've got 54" of space if I take the top rack out.

I used to put the children's toilet seats in the dishwasher! Came out perfectly clean. I didn't put them in with anything else before someone asks.

LBOCS2 · 15/01/2016 20:02

I'm considering putting DD's potty in ours. It's all dusty.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 15/01/2016 20:02

Works on flowerpots too. Saves a long job scrubbing.

FishOn · 15/01/2016 20:05

bloody hell, that's genius...

Thatrabbittrickedme · 15/01/2016 20:07

I'm so putting my bin lids (the recycling one and the other one) through tonight!

Brilliant idea

That's a great idea! And the loo seats and potties too!

What else can you put in that I haven't thought of?

magpie17 · 15/01/2016 20:21

I wash my trainers in the dishwasher!

(Not with other stuff in it mind, although I'm one of those people that puts cat bowls in with baby bottles so everyone probably thinks I'm scum anyway!)

slithytove · 15/01/2016 20:21

Salmon

Minisoksmakehardwork · 15/01/2016 20:22

Mmmmm. Dishwasher salmon is yum. I'm the dish washer in this house :(

nbee84 · 15/01/2016 20:24

54" - that's one hell of a dishwasher. I'm 5ft 4" - which is 64" Grin

Do you mean 54cm?

Watto1 · 15/01/2016 20:25

My sister would have heart failure if I put the bin in mine! She was absolutely horrified when she saw me put the cat's bowl in. Luckily she has never seen me put the potty in or she would never eat into house again.

Watto1 · 15/01/2016 20:27

In our house, not into.

TattyDevine · 15/01/2016 20:28

I really wish there were more women who were into science Confused

Hopefully the next generation will get with the programme (see what i did there) Grin

ftmsoon · 15/01/2016 20:29

I am jealous you can get the top rack out of your dishwasher, I tried to fit my bins in but can't get my rack out 😔
I have dishwashered DD's potty, wellies and all number of plastic toys
