I have caused substantial vexation to a friend by putting my bin in the dishwasher

She asked why the top rack was on the bench.

I explained the kitchen bins were in there. She wasn't impressed as that meant the top spray wasn't working. I pointed out its the inside of the bin that needs cleaning not the outside.

She is uncomfortable with the dishwasher only operating with one spray.

I have clean bins with zero effort and can live with this.

AIBU .... Or should clean bins have taken effort and more water to clean?

I was proud of myself for realising I could clean the washing machine drawer in it. All those fiddly bits clean!

Here you go, dishwasher cuisine :) www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/food/article-2415722/Cooking-dinner-dishwasher-Latest-money-saving-technique-cut-fuel-bills.html

My dishwasher's old and goes to 95° on the 'big' wash so I do consider it sanitising - and it cooks things thoroughly, including baby new potatoes.

Hmm, I started this thread thinking 'fantastic, genius idea' about loads of this. The salmon especially - that'd be perfect cooking temperature! But then I remembered the revolting gunk that accumulates in dishwashers just from washing dirty dishes. Or is that just ours? I take all the seals out and wash the whole thing every month or so, and use a disinfectant cycle, but it doesn't take long to come back again. Some of that gunk presumably gets sloshed around during the wash cycle. So I think I'd definitely draw the line at sticking a salmon in there. Actually, come to think of it I don't think I want to eat off our plates and bowls either now! They come out looking clean, but, well...ew.

GarlicBake · 16/01/2016 00:13

Well, you have to hermetically seal the food or it'd get detergent on it Grin and be smashed into a thousand tiny pieces. So it's gunk-safe!

Mine only gets gunk around the bottom of the door seal - perhaps because I always use the hot wash and it's not terribly eco, so its hot is very hot?

54 inches of height inside a dishwasher! Is it industrial? For giants?

Sex toys and toilet seats!

We put dishes in ours.

Round at colleagues house for dinner.

Glass of wine and chat in kitchen after.

Colleague opens dishwasher. Butt plugs in top drawer.

Vom.

Politely declined invites back.

GarlicBake · 16/01/2016 03:59

Aaaah hahahaaaaah, Pit!

I'm not sure I'd recognise a butt plug.

GarlicBake · 16/01/2016 04:00

I wash my chandeliers in the dishwasher. The alternative is to do them by hand Shock

OldBloodCallsToOldBlood · 16/01/2016 21:02

I was gone at 'poached an egg in my diaphragm'.

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

I need to hear how that happened, exactly.

LBOCS2 · 16/01/2016 21:06

I could totally see how that would happen.

It looks like a poach pod.

GarlicBake · 17/01/2016 01:09

I never realised it does until it happened! Mind you - he'd never seen a diaphragm and I'd never seen an egg poacher Grin

It was on the draining board, having been washed and forgotten. I promptly requested a new one, since the care leaflet didn't cover accidental egg poaching. We never told him. He'd been quite impressed by our egg poacher - wonder if he tried to find one like it in the shops?
