I have caused substantial vexation to a friend by putting my bin in the dishwasher

She asked why the top rack was on the bench.

I explained the kitchen bins were in there. She wasn't impressed as that meant the top spray wasn't working. I pointed out its the inside of the bin that needs cleaning not the outside.

She is uncomfortable with the dishwasher only operating with one spray.

I have clean bins with zero effort and can live with this.

AIBU .... Or should clean bins have taken effort and more water to clean?

I'm just thinking of so many things to dishwash....

diddl · 15/01/2016 21:41

My kitchen bin only ever needs a quick wipe!

JamesetjeeBomanjee · 15/01/2016 21:41

I wonder what your friend would say if you let slip that you put dirty underwear in your washing machine. Yuk! Envy

werewolfinladderedtights · 15/01/2016 21:42

I put a horse shoe in a dishwasher once.

Baressentials · 15/01/2016 21:43

I would love a dishwasher. Not even to wash my plates etc - i am quite happy to do that. But for the salmon, skittles vodka, bins and all other household stuff that could be put in to be cleaned.

OldBloodCallsToOldBlood · 15/01/2016 21:44

The washing machine drawer never comes fully clean in mine. It still needs a bit of a scrub afterwards.

I'm firmly in the 'will put anything in the dishwasher' camp. We need a badge. And a slogan.

Sidge · 15/01/2016 21:45

Be careful. I put my bin lid in and it warped it so now it won't shut Sad

I had to buy a new one.

(I still chuck all sorts in my dishwasher!)

Potterwolfie · 15/01/2016 21:46

I put the scuzzy food recycling bin in mine, works a treat on mouldy veg entrails and tea bag detritus!

zen1 · 15/01/2016 21:48

This thread has made me realise I am a bit precious about my dishwasher: It only ever gets filled with crockery and cutlery that has already been soaked in a bowl of hot water and washing up liquid. I'm going to go cold turkey and try it with the bathroom bin Grin

queenmools · 15/01/2016 21:49

I put all the fridge drawers and shelves in today. I put loo seats and potties in regularly too. Bath toys about once a month. I never thought of putting the washing machine drawer in, that is genius. Basically when it comes to cleaning if I can't put it in the dishwasher or washing machine or vacuum it then I'm not interested.

Re, pet food bowls - "It's just food stuff" - it not just food though, if that's the case why not just give your pets a dinner plate and be done with. It's gross, unhygienic, lazy.

OldBloodCallsToOldBlood · 15/01/2016 21:56

I DO give my cat a dinner plate. Well, a plastic version of a chip basket. It's big enough to stop her dragging the food out onto the floor. It gets washed regularly but if it got mixed up with the other ones in the set that we use, I wouldn't care. Because it gets WASHED.

Also, my friend worked quite high up in a company that manufactures pet food and human food. It is food. She told me the standards were higher for the pet food than for a lot of the human food so nyeh. Grin

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 15/01/2016 21:57

The posters putting toilet seats in, do you mean a proper seat that you need to unbolt from the toilet or a toddler one?

Samaritan1 · 15/01/2016 22:01

Gross, unhygienic and lazy to wash pet food bowls in the dishwasher? I just can't work that out. I wouldn't have a problem with my cats eating off a "real" plate if I thought there was no chance of them breaking it. The dishwasher water is much, much hotter than hands could cope with, so it's far more hygienic to clean them in there.

Motherinlawsdung · 15/01/2016 22:02

Amazed at all these Mumsnetters who put dirty germy things like toilet seats, dishes your dogs have licked, and bins into a dishwasher but who don't believe in toilet brushes.

(Sits back and waits for someone to say they put their toilet brush in theirs).

iPaid · 15/01/2016 22:03

You absolutely disgusting lot! I need a sick bucket after reading this

When you've finished puking you can pop the bucket in the dishwasher Grin

WitchWay · 15/01/2016 22:03

I put toothbrushes & the disgusting manky cup that they sit in into the dishwasher

also the draining rack from the sink & the kitchen bin

never the cat things - they're hand washed in the utility room sink

exLtEveDallas · 15/01/2016 22:04

Humans taste test dog food. It has to be fit for human consumption. Why is it an issue?

iPaid · 15/01/2016 22:09

I often set a place for my dog at the table when we're using our best crockery and late Aunt Millie's silver.

bloodyteenagers · 15/01/2016 22:10

And yes. The puke bowl also gets lobbed in the dishwasher.

What is so wrong with putting the pet dishes in the dishwasher?
Next time you are in the supermarket pick up a tin and read the ingredients.. Then go and have a look at the ingredients on a tin of meatballs or a pie. Not much difference.

Just like your knickers in the washer there's more than one cycle of water that goes through the machine

SkiptonLass2 · 15/01/2016 22:10

I had a housemate who put the kitty litter tray in the dishwasher ....

Grim.

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 15/01/2016 22:12

Sorry, salmon?? Can anyone expand on exactly how you do this? I mean seriously, salmon?? I am appalled and yet curious!

MyMoneyIsAllSpent · 15/01/2016 22:12

I'm just jealous! I don't have a dishwasher :(

Oldraver · 15/01/2016 22:15

Someone upthread said they couldn't take the top rack out...are you sure ? It took a while before I realised there were two little clips you had to turn round to release the top

Baressentials · 15/01/2016 22:15

I am jealous too Envy I don't even have a fecking washing machine yet. Is it wrong that I want a dishwasher more?
