I have caused substantial vexation to a friend by putting my bin in the dishwasher

She asked why the top rack was on the bench.

I explained the kitchen bins were in there. She wasn't impressed as that meant the top spray wasn't working. I pointed out its the inside of the bin that needs cleaning not the outside.

She is uncomfortable with the dishwasher only operating with one spray.

I have clean bins with zero effort and can live with this.

AIBU .... Or should clean bins have taken effort and more water to clean?

Dishwasher salmon very good :) Couldn't be easier! Top rack, plenty of foil.

Your friend is just very odd, OP.

Peppaspants · 15/01/2016 21:00

IKEA high chair fits in perfectly-never understood why people complain about cleaning high chairs constantly.....

Ginkypig · 15/01/2016 21:01

Ooh my bathroom bin is so very much going in! I can't belive I didn't think of it.

I couldn't fit kitchen bin as its a tabletop dishwasher and I would need to cut it in half to fit :-)

Buttercup27 · 15/01/2016 21:01

Plastic fish tank
All plastic toy dog bowls (dunno why but this is the one that irritated dh the most)

Hadn't thought of bin lid bin won't fit

BloodyDogHairs · 15/01/2016 21:02

Right I'm going to take a chance a put my Hunter wellies in....I might need to do a before and after pic Grin

AthelstaneTheUnready · 15/01/2016 21:02

I've never washed the bin Merguez. Is it necessary?

BYOSnowman · 15/01/2016 21:06

This must be bad for the environment surely! All that water!!

HoneyDragon · 15/01/2016 21:09

Quick wash does all 3 bin sections and the food waste caddy. Takes half an hour and uses 5l of water total cycle. Probably better for the environment?

You are a genius OP and I shall be copying you forthwith. Well, tomorrow now, I'm not jumping up to wash the bin now.

Gabilan · 15/01/2016 21:16

I understand the science. It doesn't stop me thinking "yuck". Sticking the horses' bits in is about as far as I'd go.

HoneyDragon · 15/01/2016 21:16

I am glad we've established that removing the top rack isn't some sort of dishwasher faux pas I was unaware of.

Fish tank?!!! Where do the fish go while the dishwasher is on?

I've never had fish...

ProfGrammaticus · 15/01/2016 21:18

She's not a genius she thinks she has a 54 inch dishwasher Wink

HoneyDragon · 15/01/2016 21:21

Grin omg... If I did everything up to and including the dog and offspring would go in it.

Chocolate and sweetie vodka is best done in the dishwasher - only takes one cycle (about an hour?) rather than all the faffing around and waiting for the stuff to melt.

I do the dog bowls, collar and lead quite often, and clean my kitchen cloths in it once a week (the expensive microfibres ones, not the cheap blue cloths)

MuttDog managed to drop a hide chew in ours one Christmas and I didn't notice - oh god the mess, that was disgusting.

HoneyDragon · 15/01/2016 21:26

Aaah, dogs, natures prewash if the doors open and your backs turned

GoEasyJulia · 15/01/2016 21:27

I put all the shelves and bits from the inside of the fridge in. Come out lovely and sparkly.

Illcya · 15/01/2016 21:28

I too find the thought of certain items other than dishes going in the dishwasher. Do you do a machine wash after?

cojmum · 15/01/2016 21:29

I have acrylic ceiling pendants and I've put them in. They came out looking lovely.

It's the bins. They have had the same stuff on as the plates and glasses have had on. Do you feel ill when crockery goes in?

OldBloodCallsToOldBlood · 15/01/2016 21:32

I only have a tabletop dishwasher but it can fit a lot inside it, although maybe not a bin.

My favourite non-dish things to shove in there are the iron rack bits off the hob.

bloodyteenagers · 15/01/2016 21:34

I put in the kitchen sink bowl, the cutlery thing and dish thing that sits on the drainer (still possess these so the dc's can learn how to wash up).
The cutlery section thing from the draw.
Plastic boxes and drawers when I clean all the crap out. Along with plastic toys.
Cat dishes (it's just meat, gravy and maybe veg. I think of pet food in the same way as baby jar food... It's food just looks different).
Kitchen cloth that is used to wipe down sides
The bit you put the filter thing in that goes in kettles..
Plastic lamp shade (I wanted it to melt to justify replacing it. Bastard survived)
The washing machine draw
The drier filter thing
The shower head

Plus countless other bizarre random things. I look at stuff and think when needing cleaning - I wonder if it can. As long as it's not expensive I chuck it in, or a small part of it.

Abraid2 · 15/01/2016 21:35

Putting loo seats and potties in is awful!

ProfGrammaticus · 15/01/2016 21:36

Washing machine drawer. Now that is genius.
