I have caused substantial vexation to a friend by putting my bin in the dishwasher

She asked why the top rack was on the bench.

I explained the kitchen bins were in there. She wasn't impressed as that meant the top spray wasn't working. I pointed out its the inside of the bin that needs cleaning not the outside.

She is uncomfortable with the dishwasher only operating with one spray.

I have clean bins with zero effort and can live with this.

AIBU .... Or should clean bins have taken effort and more water to clean?

Wow, this is brilliant - I'm off to measure my dishwasher!

IpreferToblerone · 15/01/2016 20:29

Wellies?? Do people put wellies in....I've got a pair of hunters needing a real good clean but I'm too lazy to do it by hand.

DickDewy · 15/01/2016 20:35

Very good idea, however our top rack doesn't come out.

I clean sunglasses in the dishwasher - they come out like new.

PuntasticUsername · 15/01/2016 20:35

We do put the food waste bin in after it gets emptied every week. It fits nicely into the bottom.

For some reason I feel the need to point out that it doesn't actually go in very dirty - while in use, it's lined with a plastic bag. We just like to be sure it's PROPERLY clean.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 15/01/2016 20:37

I love this thread! Place marking for when I finally get a dishwasher in a couple of months!

MaisieDotes · 15/01/2016 20:39

Vodka nailsat - apparently.

You can make Skittles vodka in the dishwasher or so say some other MNers. I haven't tried it yet, but I will.

Diggum · 15/01/2016 20:41

Place marking.

I'm now planning a toothbrush and bath toy run tomorrow. Brilliant.

Merguez · 15/01/2016 20:42

Please tell me I am not the only person here who has never felt it necessary to wash the kitchen bin.

Queenbean · 15/01/2016 20:44

I'm really not ok with any of this

I cannot articulate exactly why

MrsPnut · 15/01/2016 20:44

Mine comes with a separate spray head that fits on the back wall when you take the top rack out. It's meant for washing baking trays etc but would work fine on the bin.

MiniLop · 15/01/2016 20:45

Oooh I'm doing this tomorrow! My recycling bin will fit in, even if I have to take the top rack out Grin
DF has done dishwasher salmon before, was lovely!
And (this could out me) DH has used it to soften some ply-wood for hobbies! He's also put motorcycle bits in it which I wasn't too pleased about Angry
The gas hob racks and rings come out quite nicely in the dishwasher too!

unlucky83 · 15/01/2016 20:46

I have a Bosch Excel - you can take the top rack out and fit a spray nozzle to the back...
I regularly wash my bins in there (although not a full black bin sized one - but because we recycle everything I just use that for paper now)
I also do my oven shelves ...and the filters from my extractor, and my hob supports.
My draining rack goes in a regular load every so often , as does my dishwashing brush, sponge and metal scrubbers and the pot they live in and and the cutlery drainer (mainly used for children's paint brushes etc theses days).
My DCs are older now but baby toys regularly went in - especially things like stacking cups and bath toys (I hated bath toys -they always got full of disgusting mouldy gunk - I was so pleased when I could finally get rid of them altogether)

0christmastree5 · 15/01/2016 20:47

You absolutely disgusting lot! I need a sick bucket after reading this.
How complicated is it to put water in the bin with some soap and tip it down the toilet when you've cleaned it? Ewwwww.

Daffodil90 · 15/01/2016 20:48

Skittles vodka in the dishwasher? Why do you need the dishwasher, I make it just by putting skittles in vodka lol....

Also pear drop vodka, kola cube vodka, toffee vodka (made with werthers originals), cherry drop vodka.......mmmm

My old dishwasher (Bosch) had that handy spray head doodad for when you take the top rack out. Unfortunately it suffered a major microchipy/electronicky sort of disaster about three days after its warranty ran out and has been replaced by a secondhand Hotpoint. Upside, the cycle is only half as long, which matters as it's a 9 place setting slim line one and needs to run about twice a day to keep up with us. Downside, I have to actually physically wash up the roasting trays and other big shite.

Sunnyshores · 15/01/2016 20:53

although I am incredibly impressed with everyones inginuity and would love to run out there with my wellies, pet bowls, bins, bath toys, I find myself unable to .... Shock Sad

varicoseveronica · 15/01/2016 20:55

Sunglasses, lego, toothbrushes all go in mine.

i did read it's possible to cook a salmon in one, but have never tried.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 15/01/2016 20:55

Wellies
Rugby boots
Bin lids (my bins don't fit)
Bathroom accessories (towel rails, toothbrush/loo roll holders, shelves, brushes, combs)
Kitchen accessories (hooks, rails, spice racks, scrubbing brushes etc etc)
Garden accessories (pots, hose bits)
Toys (bath toys, garden toys, beach toys)
Pet bowls, leads, brushes

Crikey Maryz calm down! Put your feet up or something Grin cleaning is very over rated

MaisieDotes · 15/01/2016 20:57

I don't know daffodil - I just distinctly remember that the dishwasher was involved. Something to do with it being the right temperature to dissolve the Skittles.

When I'm not pregnant anymore I'm going to dig out the thread Grin
