Got some vouchers for dsis and Bil for Xmas for a restaurant as they like eating out.

Gave them today and they look up the food rating and it was low. Dsis was disgusted and gave them back saying "we can't even re gift that"

I'm so embarrassed :(

Did not occur to me to check first as although we had not eaten there ourselves it had been recommended to us and was local so we thought it was a nice present

You shouldn't feel embarrassed--they should. They should have been more discreet about their findings. Your gesture was well intended and they acted like brats, IMO.

You shouldn't be embarrassed. Your sister should be. That's incredibly rude. She should have checked out the restaurant when you weren't around, and if she didn't want to eat there just crossed her fingers that you didn't ask them at a later date whether she'd enjoyed her meal. The way that she treated you was extremely ungrateful and ill mannered.

Mainly people get on the Internet to complain and not to praise so ratings aren't necessarily a good judgement.

Just seen the update. £100! That was very generous. You should go with a couple of friends - you can get a lot for £100 at an Indian restaurant.

The people we know who recommended it go often and have not been ill and its local to where they live

Don't get her a replacement present. Not all reviews are true, they are subjective

Also, sometimes places can get low ratings because they haven't filled out their paperwork properly. This can often be the case with foreign owners. Doesn't automatically mean it's unhygienic.

Take the voucher, and your dp, and your friends who recommended it and have a bloody brilliant night out - order lobster and fancy wine and enjoy. £100 is very generous, especially as you can get so much in an India restaurant. What a cow.

The looked up the food rating in front of you? Plus they are naughty opening gifts before Christmas Day.

Enjoy them yourself, and sod the ungrateful buggers, next year a box of Roses and a some Carva for them.
