That Tyson Fury is a Dickhead

Leafitout · 06/12/2015 18:55

He is a good boxer, granted. He should so be removed from the shortlist of sports personality of the year and put up for Dickhead of the year! According to him Jessica Ennis-Hill "slaps up good" and his personal beliefs are that " A women's best place is in the kitchen and on her back". Even if he thinks it's just harmless banter and a part of his show man personality, he is still a dickhead for saying these things out aloud!

Also, I heard that another nominee Greg Rutherford (the long jumper) has said he will ask for his name to be withdrawn if Fury remains in the competition. How very noble of him.

AuntieStella · 09/12/2015 13:43

Which also includes:

"In a separate development, the Sports Journalists’ Association withdrew an invitation to Tyson Fury to attend the British Sports Awards in London next week.

The SJA said: “The officers of the SJA took the decision reluctantly, since the British Sports Awards seek to recognise the year’s great sporting achievements, which include Fury’s heavyweight world title win.

“But the decision was made as a consequence of threats made by Fury against at least one sports journalist, an SJA member, who has written about the boxer’s repugnant comments on homosexuality and women.”

The rest of current shortlist is:

Athletics Jessica Ennis-Hill, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford
Tennis Andy Murray,
F1 Lewis Hamilton
Football Lucy Bronze
Cycling Chris Froome and Lizzie Armitstead
Swimmer Adam Peaty
Gymnastics Max Whitlock
Rugby league Kevin Sinfield

Hihohoho1 · 09/12/2015 13:51

Yes he's a massive dick head.

That said I can't understand why the travelling community seem to remain above the law when it comes to their children attending school.

Most don't travel now they are static. Why don't the authorities insist on school/proper training for their kids until 18 like everyone else.

Then a decent education might allow the kids to have options at careers abc education to stamp out bollicks like this.

Of course it's far easier up prosecute white middle class families rather than be accused of being insensitive to cultures and beliefs.

That's also why most police forces yesterday failed miserably to have policies on FGM and honour killings and forced marriage.

Too scared.

derxa · 09/12/2015 13:58

Rutherford was never going to win and this is another of his attention seeking tactics. If Jessica E-H or Andy M had said this it would be a different matter.

Leafitout · 09/12/2015 15:17

I think it was down to contract commitments as to who TF would fight in a rematch. He chose to fight another person and not klitchklo as he should. Something to do with a clause in the contract so they stripped him of the title due to that. However it seems that his views have somewhat started to come back on him!

OP posts:
AuntieStella · 09/12/2015 15:19

I don't particularly care if it's attention seeking, as I think it's right.

And where one goes, might others follow?

megletthesecond · 09/12/2015 16:22

Hopefully Rutherford will set an example.

HelpfulChap · 09/12/2015 16:28

Agree with Hiho

Why are some sections of society above the law?

He tried to justify his remarks by suggesting he wasn't talkingk about all women, just his wife. She knows her place apparently - its their 'culture'.

Dickhead

derxa · 09/12/2015 16:41

I've just noticed that Greg is coming on MN to give fitness tips. Maybe he's not so bad after all and has been influenced by reading the Tyson Fury threads.

AuntieStella · 09/12/2015 16:41

Rutherford is quoted by BBC as denying that he said he would withdraw

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35049148

Wonder how the story came about in the first place?

BertrandRussell · 09/12/2015 16:46

"Of course it's far easier up prosecute white middle class families rather than be accused of being insensitive to cultures and beliefs."

Out of interest, how many white middle class families have been prosecuted for not sending their children to school?

Welshwabbit · 09/12/2015 16:51

Re: the title, it was the IBF one, and it was stripped because the contract under which Fury fought Klitschko contained a re-match clause which prevents him from fighting against the IBF "mandatory" challenger, a bloke called Glazkov. A no-win situation really - had Fury refused to fight Klitschko next, he would have been in breach of contract; as he went with the contract, he lost the IBF title. Boxing has a monumentally silly set-up, IMO.

What a twat.

waltzeswithsnobs · 04/09/2020 22:02

Five year old thread 😮😮😮

Oldbagface · 04/09/2020 22:43

He talks bollocks because he knows no better. Search YouTube for John fury (his dad). It's a shame for Tyson really.

I hope Wilder knocks the bigot out.

thats his upbringing in the travelling community for you, each and every one of your points is how they treat their women
LaetitiaASD · 08/10/2021 13:51

Just done a bit of googling. Wilder is clearly a fucking legend of a human - I mean, he's only got kids by four different mothers, and he's never been charged with DV

www.eurosport.com/boxing/deontay-wilder-charged-with-domestic-violence-after-vegas-arrest-on-saturday_sto3747545/story.shtml

Planesmistakenforstars · 08/10/2021 14:18

For the person who said one of the boxers they had most respect for is Manny Pacquiao...he's a serial cheat who is vehemently homophobic and has lost sponsorship deals because of it.

You needn't worry OP. The Wilder fight is on PPV and will start about 4am, so there's no chance he'll win SPOTY. Plus he's already beaten Wilder, and a rematch clause was in the contract, so winning tomorrow won't be the same kind of achievement beating Wladimir Klitschko.

Brainwave89 · 08/10/2021 15:05

Sadly I think he is brighter than he first appears. In being such a despised figure, people will pay good money to see if he finishes up on his back. he gains money via TV Rights predominantly and he will care little if people hate or love him so long as they watch and pay. The comments he has made are nasty and misogynistic and I think he is a horrible man.... and I will not be putting any money in his back pocket.

I think he is pretty bright. He has also done a lot of good re: mental health, and has stood up against the last acceptable form of racism in this country - anti-traveller racism which is alive and well on this thread.

I think Fury is equally loved and hated. He is also an incredible boxer. He lacks amazing levels of power, but he moves and boxes like a middle weight, which is very unusual for a heavyweight and unique for a giant heavyweight like him.

He might be (in no small part due to his size) the best boxer in history.

He has said misogynistic and homophobic things in the past, the sorts of things that I detest.

That said I think that the misogyny is in no small part down to his traveller upbringing; and the homophobia likewise, and maybe also down to his christianity.

To a large extent this is a real rock and a hard place issue - do you look into context and consider the cultural and religious things at play? Or do you just condemn him for bigotry. If the latter then you should probably make it clear that you detest most muslims and lots of christians too for misogyny and homophobia.... and to what extent does that start becoming hate speech?

Itinerary caravan dwellers enriching everywhere the pitch up.

His dad isn't well liked even amongst fellow itinerants and has been called out by a few of them for a bit of the old fisticuffs lately, though undoubtedly there's plenty of jealousy towards them in that "community".

There's a funny video of a fat coke head itinerant bare Knuckle "fighter" calling out Tyson Fury for a fight claiming that he (the fat coke head) is the true gypsy king.

Dreadful **s.

If you posted the equivalent of that post only in regard to the black council-estate dwellers of Brixton you're be getting a barrage of criticism for racism, IMHO.
