That Tyson Fury is a Dickhead

He is a good boxer, granted. He should so be removed from the shortlist of sports personality of the year and put up for Dickhead of the year! According to him Jessica Ennis-Hill "slaps up good" and his personal beliefs are that " A women's best place is in the kitchen and on her back". Even if he thinks it's just harmless banter and a part of his show man personality, he is still a dickhead for saying these things out aloud!

Agree with Mittens.

I like my dickheads out in the wide open, not hiding behind management ordered politeness.

LineyReborn · 07/12/2015 12:51

That's bad enough. But he did go further than that in his comparisons.

There's a pretty big difference between silencing someone and not honouring them so the free speech argument is a bit irrelevant here surely.

I don't believe so. The issue is marginalising people who voice their unpopular opinions. There has been a spate of 'no platforming' at universities recently, of speakers who are deemed to have 'unpalatable' viewpoints, including Germaine Greer who was barred from speaking at a feminist event because she does not include trans women in her definition of 'women'.

"Free speech, by definition, exists to protect unpopular speech; popular speech needs no protection."

Absolutely. One of my recent personal wranglings over the limits of free speech, you can at least identify the dickheads and avoid them.

flippinada · 07/12/2015 20:08

I don't see that he's being marginalised or no platformed - he's just won a world title.

He's free to hold whatever fatuous opinions he likes, and people are free to express their own opinions about that.

Freedom of speech isn't absolute and doesn't extend to hate speech - which some of his comments arguably fall under.

flippinada · 07/12/2015 20:18

By the way, does anyone have a copy of the 'Offically Approved' list of opinions that was referred to upthread?

I'd like to read a copy myself, so I know what I should getting hysterical over.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 07/12/2015 20:27

He's a dick, no doubt.

This thread has been worth it for Hardnut McPunchy alone Grin

LineyReborn · 07/12/2015 20:34

Indeed. I was there for Hardnut McPunchy will be a clarion call one day.

BertrandRussell · 07/12/2015 20:34

Oh, I'd like a copy of the Officially Approved Opinion List, please.

flippinada · 07/12/2015 21:08

I agree re Hardnut McPunchy. Wish I'd thought of it first!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 07/12/2015 21:23

I'm just a bit shocked, that there exists a situation where the Daily Mail have actually managed to take the moral high ground.

Tyson doesn't even have the guts to stand by his nasty beliefs. Threatening the Mail journo is disgusting. Surely he can be prosecuted for it?

BlueJug · 07/12/2015 22:32

Agree with Mittens and Manatee and *MyFavouriteClintonisGeorge upthread.

I am finding it scary that there is so much ganging up and silencing of people who don't have the "right"views. No platform, no discussion, no understanding. There is also so much more emphasis on what is said than on how a life is lived. Don't want to derail thread though.

so back to SPOTY - Andy Murray for me.

LuluJakey1 · 07/12/2015 22:37

I loathe the Mail but it does have the moral high grond on occasions. It gets a bee in its very right wing bonnet about an issue and pursues it - whatever the politics.
Stephen Lawrence murders- was relentless in its pursuit of them. Named them on the front page and just went after them for years.
Camilla Batmangeldi and Alan Yentob
Chris Huhne lies about speeding
animal rights
moonies
It has also, as we all know, published a huge range of clap-trap over the years and only really approves of white, middle-aged, married, christian, English, heterosexual men who love animals.

flippinada · 08/12/2015 07:32

People disagreeing with someone's opinion not equal being ganged up on, silenced, or "no platformed".

Unless one is a particularly fragile character - which I'm quite sure Mr Fury isn't.

SurferJet · 08/12/2015 07:46

Oh I dunno - I think he has a point about women being quite happy being sahm's. I wish I had nothing else to worry about apart from what to do for tea.
As it is, I work a 10 hour ( stressful ) day & then come home to worry about the tea.
It is a privilege to have a partner who earns enough so the woman doesn't 'have' to work. Different if she absolutely wants to of course.

BertrandRussell · 08/12/2015 07:56

Oh, surferjet, you are funny!!!!!

I do love alternative comedy!

derxa · 08/12/2015 08:18

The thing I like most about this thread is AF's love of Andy Murray.
He's 'wee Andy Murray' in our house.

Signed
A Dour Scot Grin

Tyson Fury? He must be loving all the attention. I don't agree with anything he says and as he has stated, he's 'not a roll model'.

LineyReborn · 08/12/2015 08:21

Is it right that TF made threats towards the Mail journalist?

josephwrightofderby · 08/12/2015 08:24

He's entitled to his opinions. His opinions are marginalised, however, because they are batshit insane and are hence - by definition - only held by a small number of challenged people.

He shouldn't be given any honour for "personality" except Supreme Wanker of the Year.

derxa · 08/12/2015 08:26

Is it right that TF made threats towards the Mail journalist? No. But he's a boxer not a human rights spokesman.

hackmum · 08/12/2015 08:34

Has anyone pointed out the logistical difficulties of being in the kitchen, lying on your back, and making a cup of tea? How do these women manage it?

RJnomore1 · 08/12/2015 08:47

"on her back" doesn't show a great imagination either does it! 😁

BertrandRussell · 08/12/2015 08:48

"Has anyone pointed out the logistical difficulties of being in the kitchen, lying on your back, and making a cup of tea? How do these women manage it?"

While wearing full make up, of course. You mean you don't know? Your poor dp.........
