That Tyson Fury is a Dickhead

He is a good boxer, granted. He should so be removed from the shortlist of sports personality of the year and put up for Dickhead of the year! According to him Jessica Ennis-Hill "slaps up good" and his personal beliefs are that " A women's best place is in the kitchen and on her back". Even if he thinks it's just harmless banter and a part of his show man personality, he is still a dickhead for saying these things out aloud!

She did not say that transpeople were inferior, or should have fewer rights, or were criminal or were sinful or were only any good for doing the cooking and having sex with.

Fury's consequences will be things like not getting sponsorship deals. That's where the real money is in professional sport. Nicola Adams or Amir Kahn did a huge lot more to promote boxing and their communities positively without being bigots (I think?) or saints.

People forget that Germaine Greer also defended FGM. Let's just say, I'm not a fan. She can say what she likes & I can say she's full of ...

Andy Murray has already won SPOTY twice, hasn't he?

I say we vote for Jessica Ennis Hill, with Lizzie Armistead 2nd.

BertrandRussell · 08/12/2015 14:34

"That's not what people are saying"

So what are they saying then?

BertrandRussell · 08/12/2015 14:35

"People forget that Germaine Greer also defended FGM"

Has she? Link please.

He isn't a very good boxer at all. He has very little technique, he's just tall with a very long reach. He became world heavy weight champion because there are very very very few decent contenders in that belt and Klitschko is over 10 years older than him and well past his prime.

RJnomore1 · 08/12/2015 16:37

I don't think you can just ignore this crap, I think you need to challenge it, that's how social change happens. It's not ok to think or say something just because lots of other people say it. If it was then why would hate preachers, Internet trolls etc be a problem?

And if it's someone with a platform such as he has this last couple of weeks who spouts ignorance it's REALLY important to challenge it.

He can say what he wants; we can say we don't think his views are compatible with what we as a society expect of people we hold up as role models.

Well, if the consequences involve not getting sponsorship, why can't the consequences also include being deselected from Sports Personality of the Year.....

I don't think he cares one jot about sports personality of the year. He's world famous now so anything he says will be reported. If he wanted a platform to air his views he was guaranteed that last week when he won the title. Not dumbing it down, but spoty is hardly the Oscars is it.

Leafitout · 09/12/2015 08:13

Not a good day for Tyson, stripped of his winning title and possibly being investigated by the police for alleged hate crime in regards to comments made by him on a bbc show. Seems that those consequences are about to knock Tyson onto his back hopefully in his kitchen!!

No he wasn't but it adds to him having a shit day of it. A member of the public made a complaint of a hate crime from Tysons comments.

Has Oliver Holt gone to the police about the filmed threats from TF and his friend to hurt him?

LineyReborn · 09/12/2015 08:49

And if we're on the subject of freedom of speech, I think that journalists should be able to publish interviews without receiving threats of violence.

Leafitout · 09/12/2015 09:10

Maybe it will all start to unravel on Tyson and Oliver may come forward. The BBC will surely have to remove him from Spoty now that he has his title stripped

He's still got the title he won by beating Klitschko. There are too many titles in circulation now.

AuntieStella · 09/12/2015 13:32

I've just half heard on the news he's been stripped of one of his titles, but didn't hear why. And the BBC online article doesn't really say. Can anyone explain?

Also, I heard that another nominee Greg Rutherford (the long jumper) has said he will ask for his name to be withdrawn if Fury remains in the competition.

The BBC seriously needs to sort out its nominations process. It's not so long since they stuck with an all-male short list.

BertrandRussell · 09/12/2015 13:36

Did you hear his friend on Radio 5 this morning? He said "It's not as if he's a racist, or anything".............

rallytog1 · 09/12/2015 13:40

I hope more nominees follow Rutherford's lead and reconsider their place on the show/in the shortlist.
