That Tyson Fury is a Dickhead

He is a good boxer, granted. He should so be removed from the shortlist of sports personality of the year and put up for Dickhead of the year! According to him Jessica Ennis-Hill "slaps up good" and his personal beliefs are that " A women's best place is in the kitchen and on her back". Even if he thinks it's just harmless banter and a part of his show man personality, he is still a dickhead for saying these things out aloud!

OP posts:
pieceofpurplesky · 06/12/2015 23:56

'Slaps up well' refers to her putting make up on - 'Put your slap on' is quite common here (near to where he lived).
I do wonder though if the press go
After him and embellish and twist things as he is a Gypsy?

LineyReborn · 07/12/2015 06:41

The Mail took the unusual step of publishing the tape/transcript of what he said to show that they hadn't embellished the interview, I think.

I'm pretty sure the Mail's view is that his opinions were freely given and that they reported them truthfully.

I guess Fury can go to the regulator if he feels he has been misrepresented.

I don't think much of either party - the Mail and Fury - in this, tbh. But the Mail does seem to have the evidence on its side.

JogOnKitty · 07/12/2015 07:26

Agreeing with thegirl Kevin sinfield really should spoty, he has achieved at consistently high standards this year and throughout his career. He is an excellent ambassador for rugby league.

Timri · 07/12/2015 07:49

When Lewis Hamilton won SPOTY, pretty sure he hadn't actually won anything. Joe Calzaghe was runner up, and when asked how he felt about losing out he apparently said 'I don't need that, because I'm a WINNER' (Undefeated world champ)
Don't really know what the point of me telling that was (Reminded after someone said Lewis Hamilton won, and doesn't have a personality I think) but I like the quote, and I like Joe Calzaghe, so... Yeah...
(I'm assuming my point is that SPOTY is not about who's won what, or even a personality contest, it's just a popularity contest, who's trendy and in the spotlight at the moment)

TheGirlFromIpanema · 07/12/2015 07:53

Thanks kitty, can I mark you down for a vote then 😂😂 I am hoping the rugby league 'family' get behind him and he gets enough votes to win!

I don't disagree with AF etc about Andy Murray, I think he's a worthy winner this year too, but he's won before!

This year us the first year ever that Rugby League has even had a nomination and it seems fitting that a true legend of the game gets to be the one nominated!

Vote Sir Kev 😂😂

Bambambini · 07/12/2015 08:30

"He's a boxer, his personal opinions aren't worth shit, unless 'punch drunk' is a new intellectual"

You'd probably get on well with him.

Definitely put me down for a vote for sir kev Grin

RJnomore1 · 07/12/2015 09:21

I have an element of sympathy for him, I suspect he's not overly educated, his team is heavily driven by his family and he's now in a bubble where he's surrounded by people who will just keep telling him he's great. Hard not to be a dick really.

I've been thinking and the three boxers I respect most - the two klitchko brothers and manny pacquaio - all have very prominent in their lives mother figures who seem to have brought up decent respectful sons with social responsibility. I haven't even heard furys mother ever mentioned.

That comment about boxers is just out of order.

RJnomore1 · 07/12/2015 09:37

This is a really interesting article if anyone's interested. Left school aged 10, grew up in domestic violence, strong hints at depression/mental health issues.

www.theguardian.com/sport/2011/nov/05/tyson-fury-interview

Wolpertinger · 07/12/2015 09:44

Tyson's family are certainly different to the Klitschko's and Manny Pacquaio's. Father in and out of prison (most recently for gouging someone's eye out), earns most of his cash in unlicensed bouts, relative is UK bareknuckle champion and talks of his ultraviolent upbringing. Tyson leaves school at 11 to go tarmacing drives.

Women don't appear to be getting much of a look in as the family appears totally male driven and fighting obsessed, licensed boxing ideally but any fighting if that's not available.

All I can find about his mother is that she has 14 pregnancies but only 4 children survive Sad There's also an interview where he talks about his childhood where his mum and dad were always screaming and hitting each other and his dad had children with other women Sad Sad

The whole thing sounds a bloody mess.

Wolpertinger · 07/12/2015 09:49

RJ I think we are reading the same articles Smile

I think his comments are vile but looking at his background it's a huge achievement for him to have stayed out of trouble with the police, not done any illegal boxing and have some insight into the fact he has mental health troubles.

If he can get an entourage that has less of his family in it then he might go places but he may not have the skills to stop himself being exploited by hangers on attracted to big money.

Welshwabbit · 07/12/2015 09:55

Agree with Wolpertinger and RJ - I think I also read that Guardian interview. I don't agree with or condone his views, but it seems he grew up and has remained in a very close-knit family circle where those views are the going currency.

Also, going back to an earlier point, I think Andy Murray is very funny. He once said in an interview that he didn't understand why anyone wanted to listen to him, as he has such a boring voice. I'd take him over Lewis Hamilton any day. Lewis Hamilton is beautiful, but I can't remember anything he's ever said.

Pantone363 · 07/12/2015 09:56

I won £350 betting on his fight Grin

DP has lots of dealings with travellers. His opinions are nothing new or unusual.

VagueIdeas · 07/12/2015 10:11

The trouble with SPOTY is the title.

It has bugger all to with with personality, proven by Andy Murray winning as he doesn't actually have a personality.

It should be called sporting achievement of the year.

The award "Sports Personality of the Year" doesn't MEAN "Sportsperson with the best personality" though, does it? It's quite an old fashioned meaning of the word "personality" (bearing in mind it was first a awarded in 1954) which means famous or high profile person.

But anyway, as previous posters have mentioned, Andy Murray has a brilliant, dry sense of humour and doesn't deserve a fraction of the hate he receives for being boring and dour and "hating the English".

ComposHatComesBack · 07/12/2015 11:02

I like Andy Murray. He has a dry sense of humour, I like the fact he comes from an ordinary background (albeit with a mum who was passionate and able tennis coach) and succeeded despite not because of the LTA.

I don't think the tennis establishment or the home counties 'come on Tim' brigade have ever forgiven him for this.

WMittens · 07/12/2015 11:28

lljkk
I kind of like him for being just what he is. At least there are no games or pretences, it's honestly all out there. I know it's very un-Mumsnetty, but I can still like people who have stupid opinions.

Wondering how the rest of you get thru life, tbh

Agree with this.

Yes, he's a dickhead, and I think his views are disgusting.

HOWEVER

I dislike this social move to censure every opinion that the majority don't like. Calls for him to be excluded from SPOTY - why? It's a public vote, so don't vote for him. I don't agree in any way with those things he's said, but I think it's more dangerous to set a precedent of trying to silence those that don't follow the party line. INGSOC all the way, right?

HackerFucker22 · 07/12/2015 11:40

His daughter is named Venezuela?? Oh dear....

I do actually feel a bit sorry for him, he seems easy prey for the tabloids but how hard is it for someone on his team to tell him to keep his trap shut?

OTheHugeManatee · 07/12/2015 12:01

I'm with Mittens on this. I dislike this over-the-top hysteria whenever someone expresses an opinion that's not on the Officially Approved list. Open debate is part of being civilised, and using overwhelming social pressure to ensure people keep quiet about their non-regulation opinions doesn't make society any nicer or tolerant.

That said, I'm not sure I'd let Tyson Fury in if he came round to borrow a cup of sugar Hmm

MyFavouriteClintonisGeorge · 07/12/2015 12:18

I agree with Mittens and Manatee. It is ironic that we have got so many initiatives to deal with childhood bullying, when adults appear to have enshrined 'ganging up' (usually via socila media) as a legitimate response to just about anything.

People seem to forget that a lot of social change was brought about by those who were determined to keep engaging and winning the argument, not turning their backs on anyone who didn't agree.

Bambambini · 07/12/2015 12:20

I wonder how we would all fare with the start and upbringing he has had.

LineyReborn · 07/12/2015 12:25

I think I'd still manage to come into contact with gay people and not believe that they were paedophiles.

ThomasRichard · 07/12/2015 12:27

Hardnut McPunchy I just cackled in the office Hmm

Pantone363 · 07/12/2015 12:46

He doesn't think gay people are peadophiles.

He said that there are 3 evils. Abortion, homosexuality and peadophilia.
