To want to have a baby at 45?

I am 45 and I have 2 lovely DCs who are 18 and 16. I have been thinking about having another baby for a while. The urge has recently become stronger to the extent that I'm having trouble focusing on other things. I actually had a vivid dream a few nights ago where I was pregnant. I've become obsessed with reading the threads on MN for ladies who are 40+ and expecting or trying to conceive. I have also combed over lots of old threads from older mums who have gotten BFPs. I absolutely love reading them Grin. Am I BU or selfish for considering it? Do any ladies of older vintage have recent pregnancy success stories or cautionary tales they wouldn't mind sharing?

I have a similar age gap, with dd 26, ds 23 and dd 8. To be honest it's a bloody long haul, and I sometimes get envious of women who haven't spent their entire adult lives being a parent, and who won't be still mothering at pushing 60. The hard bits.. middle aged pregnancy is knackering, especially combined with trying to earn a living. Followed by sleep deprivation you're too old for. followed by being up with a toddler at 5 am when you were still helping with ucas forms and career/ relationship advice at 1am, followed by being eyeball to eyeball with youngest who is bereft because half her family (the fun half) have left home. Oh, and did I mention paying for nursery/childminder and trying to support students at the same time?

Yes, ok, loads of wonderfulness and I wouldn't be without her for a moment, but still. Get over yourself, get a puppy and enjoy some freedom years before you get to be a granny is my honest advice.
