First post so please be gentle with me, sorry if posted in wrong place but need some sensible advise and fast. I was quite ill at end of feb with pneunmonia and was on a long course of anti biotics and steriods, I use Micronor oral birth control (mini pill). I know they're not effective while on antibiotics but was to ill for panky hanky anyway, I did check with pharmacist if they would still be effective for the time from my last period to start of antibiotics and was told yes so didn't think much more about it. After pneumonia cleared which was about 5 weeks until I was feeling normal again I got an oral absess which dentist said was probably due to being so run down as nothing wrong with my teeth. So another course of 2 different antibiotics, one was amoxicilin and can't remember the other ones names but was told don't take if pregnant, or planning to become pregnant in the next 12 weeks as they're very harmful. Didn't give this a second thought hadn't had sex with dp for along time due to being unwell and had a period since the first lot of antibiotics. I never gave any on this a second thought until last night. I was lying in bed with dp, he was cuddling me and made a crack about me poking his hand which i didn't, but i felt it to and i@m convinced it was a knee I remeber the feeling from carrying our 3 children. I'm now don't know what to do, I'm to scared to test because i don't want the answer. I have had periods when they were due although they have been very light, sorry for spelling and so on in tears as i write this, how could i have been so stupid to of missed this.

From what I understand, after 4-5 months the pregnancy hormone that a urine test is designed to detect is no longer at detectable levels. The best thing for you to do is go to the doctor.

BrieAndChilli · 24/09/2015 16:19

I've had 3 children and some times get wind or something that feels just like a baby kicking. Been happening a couple of years so definitely not pregnant unless I'm an elephant!

cittigirl · 24/09/2015 16:20

Have some of you not read the op properly. Have some bloody sympathy fgs Angry . Good luck op. One step at a time is all you can do.

NinaSimoneful · 24/09/2015 16:39

I took a pregnancy test when I was 28 weeks pregnant. It was a >£5 Boots dealie, not a top of the line ClearBlue one. The result was positive.

Carlywurly · 24/09/2015 16:42

Bloody hell, half the posters on this thread haven't read it properly - can't believe the lack of empathy going on here.

Op, try not to panic, do the test and then if positive deal with that then. I totally understand you being scared.

My friend managed to get pretty far along with a third pregnancy with no idea then utterly panicked that she'd been drinking and smoking. Her baby was absolutely fine.

I'm sorry you've had such a rotten time.

RoganJosh · 24/09/2015 16:44

wednesday where have you heard that?
It seems like the HGC (that pregnancy tests pick up on) are present the whole way through

I wonder if we have the same friend? Someone I know had a lovely, hefty & healthy baby this summer - she didn't know she was pregnant until the birth started!! She is not fat, had a bleed every month, and already had 2 DC.

Amazing, but people talk a lot of crap about pregnancy :) It's quite possible!

INeed, I really understand why you feel scared. I think you'll feel more on top of things (either way) after your test.

Katedotness1963 · 24/09/2015 16:51

Try not to worry too much. Take the test and, if needed, make an appointment with your doctor. Just because you were on that medication it doesn't mean harm has been done. Babies are hardy little things. I know this is scary I missed pregnancy symptoms and got to 17 weeks along guzzling down wine every weekend. Yes, I was worried but he's perfect.

Heathcliff27 · 24/09/2015 16:52

fwiw I was 16 weeks pregnant with my first child before I missed a period. Was taking the pill the entire time. Saw the doctor after i took a test when i missed a period. He put me straight for a scan as he thought i was further on than just newly pregant. Scan revealed a 16 week baby. He is now 20 and was born a healthy 7lb with no problems.

ivykaty44 · 24/09/2015 16:56

Did you do the test?

Callico · 24/09/2015 17:00

Sorry to hear about your mum Flowers

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 24/09/2015 17:03

So you've worked out how many weeks you are likely to be pregnant before you've even done a test? Confused

That's weird.

Garrick · 24/09/2015 17:07

It's not weird, Leave. OP knows when she last had sex. The two things are often connected Wink

EponasWildDaughter · 24/09/2015 17:11

:)

rosieliveson1 · 24/09/2015 17:11

I'm so sorry about your mum and how poorly you have been.
If you are pregnant, don't worry. Get yourself straight to the GP and explain your concerns etc. You can be booked into the antenatal clinic for all the checks that you will need and that will put your mind at rest.

I feel twinges like kicks too and I'm not pregnant either. I have come to the conclusion that at least 40% of what I fondly thought were baby kicks when pg were in fact wind. Blush

INeedHelp02 · 24/09/2015 17:21

I have tested and it's positive, I just need a minute I can't deal with this right now.

chairmeoh · 24/09/2015 17:24

Oh OP. Take your time. This will be a massive shock. Is your DH home? Can you book a GP appt for tomorrow?

HitsAndMrs · 24/09/2015 17:26

Don't panic OP. Breathe, have a brew and book an appointment with the GP/midwife Flowers

Tinktheterrible · 24/09/2015 17:27

Just saw this thread and your update and didn't want to not offer my congratulations. Your story sound a bit of a mind fuck for you but that little person has thrived against the odds (sort of, doesn't sound like anything much has gone against him/her except that you didn't know you were pg) so congratulations. I hope it starts to sink in and feel good soon.

Devilishpyjamas · 24/09/2015 17:28

I don't know why everyone is being so snarky with the OP. I'd have been carking it as well

See your doctor asap OP - I presume they'll want to scan. Try not to worry about the antib's. Flowers - even if things are harmful (& as others have said oten it's a case of not knowing whether they're time or not) it's usually only if taken at a specific time period.

Good luck!

Curiouserandcuriouser30 · 24/09/2015 17:28

OP you've had a big shock. Rest and be kind to yourself this evening, then tomorrow get yourself to your GP, you need a scan to determine how far along you are. Do you have the names of the antibiotics you took? Explain the whole thing to the doctor, they can advise you, but chances are it will all be fine Flowers
