First post so please be gentle with me, sorry if posted in wrong place but need some sensible advise and fast. I was quite ill at end of feb with pneunmonia and was on a long course of anti biotics and steriods, I use Micronor oral birth control (mini pill). I know they're not effective while on antibiotics but was to ill for panky hanky anyway, I did check with pharmacist if they would still be effective for the time from my last period to start of antibiotics and was told yes so didn't think much more about it. After pneumonia cleared which was about 5 weeks until I was feeling normal again I got an oral absess which dentist said was probably due to being so run down as nothing wrong with my teeth. So another course of 2 different antibiotics, one was amoxicilin and can't remember the other ones names but was told don't take if pregnant, or planning to become pregnant in the next 12 weeks as they're very harmful. Didn't give this a second thought hadn't had sex with dp for along time due to being unwell and had a period since the first lot of antibiotics. I never gave any on this a second thought until last night. I was lying in bed with dp, he was cuddling me and made a crack about me poking his hand which i didn't, but i felt it to and i@m convinced it was a knee I remeber the feeling from carrying our 3 children. I'm now don't know what to do, I'm to scared to test because i don't want the answer. I have had periods when they were due although they have been very light, sorry for spelling and so on in tears as i write this, how could i have been so stupid to of missed this.

A lot of these pills say not safe in pregnancy just to be on the safe side but actually probably won't be a problem at all. The bigger issue is if you want a baby or not.

GrizzlebertGrumbledink · 24/09/2015 17:32

Flowers what a shock. At least you know now though. As others have said get some rest tonight and see your GP ASAP, you may be able to self-refer to the midwives too depending on area?

velouria · 24/09/2015 17:35

The drug would have been metronidazole I think, I'm on it ATM and the dentist said it couldn't be taken when pregnant, on googling though seems no evidence of harm. Must be an awful shock, good luckFlowers

TheWitTank · 24/09/2015 17:36

Don't panic OP. Try not to anyway. Deep breath. Phone the doctors and make an emergency appointment for tomorrow, then you can take everything from there. Congratulations SmileFlowers and good luck.

AliceInUnderpants · 24/09/2015 17:38

This must be a terrible shock to you OP. If you are happy once you have wrapped your head around it, congratulations. If not, try not to worry until you have seen a doctor. I know you are concerned you've had no antenatal care, but are you so entirely sure you must have fallen pregnant in February? You said you have had 'plenty' of sex since, and antibiotics are not the only reason for a contraceptive pill to 'fail'. It may still be early days.

RandomMess · 24/09/2015 17:40

Be kind to yourself no matter what Flowers

Starkswillriseagain · 24/09/2015 17:44

Some of the antibiotics they you shouldn't take when pregnant are only more likely to damage during the first 12 weeks (not 100% will), after that they aren't so bad though still they aren't recommended.

If you have a birth centre near you, you can call up and they'll book you in sharpish for an ultrasound. Or call your GP and they should contact for you.

Can you call your DP? Get his support?

I'm so sorry for the loss of your mum OP

MadrigalElectromotive · 24/09/2015 17:45

What a shock. I hope you are ok. Agree with everyone else - GP asap, and then you'll be able to take next steps after that.

When is your DH home?

Starkswillriseagain · 24/09/2015 17:45

Could be Oxytetracycline too velouria. I was taken off that before trying to conceive at the GPs insistence.

fuctifino · 24/09/2015 17:45

Congratulations Smile. I hope you have your mind put at rest very soon Flowers

MrsFrankRicard · 24/09/2015 17:48

Wow, what a shock. Congratulations Flowers hope you are doing ok. How has your DH taken the news?

Wankarella · 24/09/2015 17:50

Must be a terrible shock Flowers

Talk to your DP and see a doctor asap.

Ohfourfoxache · 24/09/2015 17:54

How are you feeling? Have you told dp yet?

RJnomaaaaaargh · 24/09/2015 17:58

Are pregnancy tests reliable that far into a pregnancy? Don't they stop working after a certain point?

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/09/2015 17:59

Oh sweetheart what a shock Flowers

first things first have yourself a cup of tea and calm yoursef down. cry if you need to.

first thing tomorrow make a drs appointment see if he or she can assign you a midwife and get fast tracked to a scan so you can be totally prepared for what you are dealing with. you don't know that there is something wrong there's equal chance everything is ok.

CheesecakeDreams · 24/09/2015 18:00

What a shock. What time is Dp home?

Flowers
BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 24/09/2015 18:02

Please don't worry. I know it's a shock and you've been through a lot, but remember, people drink ajdbtake all sorts of drugs when they're pregnant and a lot of the time the babies are fine, so I think it would be very rare for antibiotics to harm the baby!

ALemonyPea · 24/09/2015 18:06

Flowers Op

Call your GP and arrange an emergency appointment.

DogWalker75 · 24/09/2015 18:13

Flowers hugs OP. You must be feeling very shocked. Have you told your husband?

goawayalready · 24/09/2015 18:13

a lot of tablets say not for use during pregnancy because they have not been cleared in this country for use during pregnancy they might have been cleared in other countries

my dd survived the morning after pill no after effects

my son survived a diet of dark mint chocolate and prawn cocktail crisps again fine

they are surprisingly resilient

sorry for your shit year Flowers

Garrick · 24/09/2015 18:14

I will say Congratulations, INeed, whether you decide you want to keep the baby or not :) I hope you're settling with this startling news now! You definitely need to see your GP, but it's not an emergency. You and DP have time to get your heads round it. x

ssd · 24/09/2015 18:27

oh my goodness, what a shock op, hope you are okay xx

Stepawayfromthezebras · 24/09/2015 18:36

Oh What a shock OP! But hopefully the baby will be fine - there's a lot of caution over drugs in pregnancy and from what I can gather it's mostly because they can't be tested. Lots of luck

QueenStromba · 24/09/2015 18:55

What other posters have said is true. The vast majority of drugs that are labelled as unsafe for pregnancy just haven't been tested as it would be unethical - they are just being super cautious.

BikeRunSki · 24/09/2015 19:01

OP, if it is any comfort, I was prescribed amoxicillin in both my pregnancies, with no ill effects.
