AIBU: What time do you put pyjamas on?

My routine: have evening bath/shower around the same time as the kids, and put on pyjamas. Do bedtime stories in PJs, then downstairs for watching TV with DH, or chat, or video game, whatever. Evening stuff. Then up to bed.

DH believes this is entirely unreasonable and odd behaviour. "Everyone else" only puts on pyjamas at the very moment of going to bed. After evening bath/shower, one should put on proper clothes again and spend the evening properly dressed. He feels that wearing pyjamas in the evening is akin to going to the shops in them, or wearing them all day.

Of course, it's taken him 13 years to confess he does not like my evenings in PJs, and as a big fan of pretty pyjamas, I am both hurt by the confession and considering this a total LTB issue. He wants me to choose between him and my cosy checked pants? No contest.

What say you? Is spending the couple of hours pre-bed in your pyjamas a heinous crime, social faux pas or enormous turn off?

If I could live in my jammies, I would. Everyday clothes are overrated..for just bumming around the house.

steppemum · 31/08/2015 22:59

shower in morning. If I have a bath it is at bedtime.

Pjs just before bed. I hate the whole lounging around in Pjs all evening, or changing into them when you get in from work thing.

Pjs fro sleeping in, clothes for being up and around.

Occasionally if I have an early bath/shower for some reason, I might get into pjs earlier, but that is an exception

987flowers · 31/08/2015 23:08

Well my children were in pjs, had s shower after tea at 6:45 and then got into clean ones! I got dressed for all of a few hours this afternoon when I nipped to the shop.

We all love pyjama days in this house though and so does dh!

I'd be thoroughly pissed off if my dh told me he wanted me to wear a dress!!!

Redglitter · 31/08/2015 23:12

Soon as I get in from work my pj's go on.

If I'm days off work and not going out I sray in them all day. I love my pj's

BackforGood · 31/08/2015 23:35

PJs as I'm about to get into bed, usually - it would be odd to be out and about at meetings / picking up dc from various places in PJs and I'm rarely in all evening just doing nothing.
I sort of see the point in not getting dressed after a bath, but that's why I wouldn't have a bath early evening - it's a thing I'd do either between getting up, and getting dressed, or as part of 'getting ready to go to bed'.

Summerisle1 · 31/08/2015 23:56

PJs don't go on until just before I go to bed. That said, I do tend to take a while to get out of them again in the morning! If I had an early evening shower or bath then I wouldn't get dressed in 'proper' clothes unless I was going out but instead, I'd put trackies and a sweatshirt on.

poorincashrichinlove · 01/09/2015 20:57

It's a race in our house. DH usually wins soon after his return home from work while I'm sorting dinner

Lilaclily · 01/09/2015 21:00

Me and dcs get into pjs as soon as home from school if we're not out again

Oysterbabe · 01/09/2015 21:09

I usually change into lounge wear when I get home from work then take it off to sleep as don't like wearing anything in bed.

GreenShadow · 01/09/2015 21:38

I had no idea that so many people lived in their nightwear!

I have ever only worn pyjamas in bed - I wear relatively comfy clothes all day (don't get this problem so many people have with their bras) so never feel the need. I don't shower in the evening, so just stay in what ever I've been wearing until bed. Then first thing I do in the morning is go straight to the shower followed immediately by getting dressed. Anything else would just seem odd.

dontrunwithscissors · 01/09/2015 21:47

I used to put PJs on just before bed. Now I have DCs, I put them on at the same time as they get ready for bed.

PinotPony · 01/09/2015 21:52

As soon as I know I won't be going out again, I put my PJs on. I wear smart business clothes all day and just want to be comfortable at home in the evenings. Confession: I have in the past forgotten that I needed to collect DS1 from Cubs and had to dash up there in my onesie! But onesies in public is a whole other debate..!

chrystabelle · 01/09/2015 22:00

I like to be dressed until I go to bed, unless I have a late bath at, say 9-10ish, and then I get straight into pjs. In the morning I always get dressed before I can enjoy breakfast. If I have toast and marmalade before I'm dressed I feel cheated!

PlymouthMaid1 · 01/09/2015 22:01

I usually change out of work trousers into 'cookie pants' but often keep the same top on as it goes in the laundry basket at bedtime. I usually shower in the morning as I like freshly washed hair for work (looks better that way). Rarely wear pjs in bed and always get showered and dressed as soon as up on a non work day as can't stand being caught out in my nightstuff feeling all frowsy.

damselinthisdress · 01/09/2015 22:06

I don't have a routine, but when I know I have no plans in the day not often enough I wake up, shower and put a fresh set of jammies on to laze around in until something exciting comes up which clothes are necessary for!

frankie001 · 01/09/2015 22:36

I rarely put on pjs. I live alone so as soon as I get in, I'm naked. I only get dressed to go out.

pinkje · 01/09/2015 22:48

Is this really about taking the first opportunity to remove your bra?

I would not be comfortable lazing around bra-less from mid-evening through to bedtime. I shower immediately before bed and that's when I put my pjs on.

I usually have an hour or so in the morning in pjs and dressing gown but am dressed mid week at 8am and weekends by 9am.

Notso · 01/09/2015 23:13

If I put my PJ's on when the two little DC got ready for bed DH wouldn't see me dressed all day!

BumpTheElephant · 02/09/2015 00:39

The same time as my kids which is around 7pm.
I love pjs. I'd wear them all the time if I could. I couldn't spend an evening in the house in my clothes.

Fatmomma99 · 02/09/2015 01:01

I'm really sorry, but I can't read 6 pages on this, so don't know how it evolves. But I sleep naked. Does that help?

Fatmomma99 · 02/09/2015 01:01

p.s. And really need to go to bed very soon!

clearsommespace · 02/09/2015 02:31

I've never heard of this! I don't see a problem if it suits your lifestyle. I can now see why you get threads on here with wildly differering opinions about how often you should wash your pjs.
It wouldn't work for us though. On most nights of the week one of us has an a evening activity while the other stays in with DCs.

Bearsbeets · 02/09/2015 04:00

I hate wearing pyjamas at all. Ever. I don't even own any. I wear my clothes during waking hours and sleep naked. I would, however, rather live in pyjamas permanently than be married to a complete twat like your husband. LTB and spend all the money you would have spent on him throughout the year (birthday, Christmas, anniversary etc) on 'jamas and every time he comes to pick up the kids dance around in them and ask if he likes your new outfit Grin

'Low class' 'disrespectful ' what an utter cunt.

LilacRain · 02/09/2015 15:32

I put pyjamas on just before I go to bed, and take them off straight after breakfast (I have breakfast soon as I wake up). I don't like wearing something I've slept in around the house and would feel very awkward answering the door in PJs! To me, PJs are for sleeping or when I'm ill.

However, I have 'indoor clothes' and 'outdoor clothes'. My indoor clothes are soft, comfortable things like yoga-pants, leggings, tunic-tops, t-shirts, stretchy jersey dresses, loose-fitting jumpers etc. I like them to be fluid, soft and easy to move in, but they don't look like PJs. I also wear comfortable sports bras indoors.

My outdoor clothes are generally smarter and more fitted.

WindowPains · 02/09/2015 15:37

I never wear normal clothes in my house. As soon as I get home from work, I shower and PJs go on. If I'm not going out, I'll put on my 'daytime' PJs after my morning shower. These are PJs that are just about acceptable to go to the shop in, walk the dog in and answer the door in.
