They are not the same thing at all.

Most Jews are not Isreali

Many Isrealis are not Jewish.

20-25% of Israelis, including the Israeli army are Muslim, ( varies year to year)

Some Jews are Arabs. Some Arabs are Jewish.

Some Palestinians on the West bank are Jewish.

There are no known Jewish Palestinians in the Gaza strip as Hamas has succeeded where Hitler failed, in wiping out it's own indigenous Jewish population. This is the ONLY reason why there are no Jews left in this population.

Israel has done terrible things. Hamas has done terrible things.

Please don't classify things done by Israel as done by Jews, a quarter of them are not Jews. please don't classify things done by Hamas as done to Jews, many of their atrocities are inflicted on Muslims.

To say Jews and Israelis are the same is like saying English people and Anglicans are the same, many people are English and Anglican, many people are English but not Anglican, and many Anglicans are not English.

And also, some Palestinians, and some Israelis are Christians.

Do you all realise the 'occupied territories' were taken during the Six day war when Eygpt, Jordon and Syria combined to destroy all Jews (and Israel). After this, the Israelis have used this area as a defensive area as they countries surrounding them are still vocal in the destruction of all Jews (and Israel).

WineIsFineAtNine · 11/08/2015 00:27

I'm Jewish, a Zionist and I will always support Israel.

Why must a Jew not support their right to a homeland in order to be seen as 'good'? Because that's what people mean when they say 'oh but not all Jews are zionists'. They're quite right, not all Jews are but why is believing in and supporting the Jewish homeland such a terrible thing?
Israel is where my grandmother went after her entire family were killed in the holocaust, it's where my daughter can wear her Star of David necklace and not feel at risk (she daredn't wear it walking around the UK) and it's the place where I know I will always be accepted. Israel exists (miraculously) in spite of the holocaust, and I see it as an insurance against another. I go on holiday to Israel, strengthen it's economy by spending my money there and hope that it will prevail so, if history were to repeat itself, my daughters would have a safe place to go to.
Zionism is the right to Jewish self determination as a free nation in our own land. What is so wrong about that?! Anti-Israel people you are denying Jews the right to self-deteimatiom!

Anybody who says 'I'm not anti-Semitic, I'm anti-Zionist' is as pathetic as the people who 'I'm not racist because I have a black friend'.

I would love to know why people who constantly criticise Israel aren't more concerned about what China does in Taiwan, the child sex exploitation market in India and the treatment of foreign workers in Dubai. I suppose they were all washing their hair the night those petitions were sent round... Of course people don't care because it doesn't involve Jews so they can't air their lazy anti-Semitism! But Israel is a convenient and socially acceptable way to do so. And it comes from all sections of society, from Muslims with anti-western views to left wing 'right on' types. Anti-semitism sadly lives on and taking an anti-Israel stance is how it's now portrayed.

Well said caroldecker

hampsterdam · 11/08/2015 00:36

Hamas weren't elected in 1948 or 1967. But Palestinians were still being killed, occupied and dehumanised. Hamas were never elected in the west bank but those Palestinians are still being illegally occupied.
I've got nothing against Jewish people, I feel isreal has a right to exist, in accordance with international law behind the green line.
Palestinians also have a right to exist, a right to a free state and a right to thrive, I hope I see the day that palestine is free, I will do everything I can to help make that happen .
Yanbu op jew and isreali are not interchangeable.

WineIsFineAtNine · 11/08/2015 00:37

Hamas wants to rid the world of all Jews, it is in the Hamas charter. Not just the destruction of Israel, but the destruction of the Jewish people all around the world. Hamas knows how Israel can react but does not care for the Palestinian people so continues to provoke Israel. Hamas is a terror group. Why is there so much sympathy for the people of Gaza?! They voted Hamas in to power!!! Hamas have destroyed Israeli food parcels in the past, they don't want to help the Palestinians- they just want to terrorise Jews

hampsterdam · 11/08/2015 00:46

Winels. You should have a state and a right to self determination but so should the Palestinians.
The usual whataboutery what about China? I don't remember China bombing Taiwan everyday for a month killing over 2000 people?
It's nothing to do with Jews that I don't like what isreal are doing, I actually couldn't care less which imaginary friend you believe in, for me it's about humanity, humans treating other humans with such contempt and such hatred and getting away with it with impunity.

hampsterdam · 11/08/2015 00:52

The occupation of palestine was going on a very long time before hamas came into existence. I have sympathy for the people of gaza because they are living under blockade and siege everyday. Because innocent t children are being brutally killed. Over 25% the population of gaza are children, did they vote for hamas? Do they not deserve sympathy?

thecatfromjapan · 11/08/2015 01:05

One of the good things about these threads is that they remind me to donate money to the Palestinian solidarity campaign.Smile

OP, it was a Jewish friend who first educated me about the awful situation of the Palestinians, so I must concur with you in your uncoupling of 'Israeli' and 'Jewish'. And also, of course, 'sympathetic towards the Palestinians' and 'anti-Semitic'.

caroldecker · 11/08/2015 01:10

Gaza was Egyptian until the 6 day war, the Egyptians started this. With an avowed intent to destroy every Jew.
This was 1967, just 20 years after the end of the Holocaust. Of course the Israelis should have apologised, moved back into the ghettos and let the egyptian muslims decide their fate.
Again, Israel can move back to the pre-1967 borders, but it would not make any difference to all their neighbours wanting them dead and would make no difference to what is going on, except more jews would die.
This is obviously the desire from a lot of people on this thread as no-one has challenged this.

Poppet1974 · 11/08/2015 01:20

All this chat about everyone wanting Jews killed etc.... All we ever see are the bodies of Palestinian children blown apart by Israeli bombs... An inconvenient truth that most Zionists chose to ignore!

Leaving this thread, can't bear apologists for child murderers!
Angry

caroldecker · 11/08/2015 01:46

here is a UN agency complaining about Hamas rockets in schools.

again stored in schools.

Again you do not challeng the desire for all jews to die, not just Israelis, but all.

Why no support for Jews?

Atenco · 11/08/2015 04:35

I personally hate Zionists for what they are doing to the Palestinians but Jews are entirely another matter. In fact some of the strongest fighters against Zionism are Jewish.

BlueMoonRising · 11/08/2015 05:55

Op, out of curiosity, what proportion of the Israeli government is Jewish?

AgentProvocateur · 11/08/2015 06:10

"Why is there so much sympathy for the people of Gaza?" Shock Shock

I can't quite believe I read that correctly. I'll hide this thread now, because I'm another one that can't bear apologists for child murderers.

skinnysoyvanillalatte · 11/08/2015 06:38

YANBU OP.

ihatethecold · 11/08/2015 07:22

Threads like these confuse me.
I watch the news, I try to educate myself about this conflict by reading about it on different mediums.
I still don't understand it.
I really feel for the victims of war on both sides.
The documentary on TV about a month ago about the conflict was heartbreaking.

WineIsFineAtNine · 11/08/2015 08:07

Israelis are victims of terrorism too, did you know the are shelters in children's playgrounds because so any rockets are fired from the Gaza Strip? Do you know just how common it is for Israelis to be run over on purpose by Palestinians? You are seeing this as very one sides and not taking into account the terror Israelis deal with everyday. There is a frightening lack of historical knowledge on these threads, as carol decker has highlighted.
So many references to operation protective edge but Israel accepts so many terror attacks without retaliating and the kidnapping and murder of three teenagers was just a step too far. If your son were kidnapped, how would you feel? The Palestinians know what they are doing but have proven time and again that they're hatred for Jews and the Jewish right to live in peace overrides there own stability and wellbeing. They would rather see a dead Israeli than feed their own people.

I expect somebody will come onto this thread soon to call Gaza a 'concentration' camp or something along those lines, use of holocaust terminology is a favourite technique of 'anti-Zionists' to silence Jews and try to put is back in their place. Again, a concerning lack of historical knowledge as it simply cannot be compared to what happened during the holocaust and Israeli seems to be the only state to suffer the use of holocaust terminology to describe it's actions.

There may be famous Jewish anti-Zionists (self-haters) but most, if not all, people I know have a strong support for Israel and views like the ones expressed on here just push is further to Israel. My DD2 attends a Jewish school with a Zionist ethos and school trips to Israel, would I ever discourage? Would any of the parents? No! Our children need to know they have a safe place.

Nobody on this thread except for carol decker seems concerned by the deaths of Jews.

No, I mean Jews- because this thread ignores the role Israel plays in keeping Jews safe when we are persecuted pretty much everywhere else. Anti-semitism in this county is rapidly on the increase, a hue number of French Jews have moved to Israel in light of recent attacks and this will continue. A strong Israel is the only guarantee we have had of survival in 2,000 years. The praise world hasn't been kind to us and every time we dare to think we've been 'accepted' it ends in a pogrom etc. People who seek to challenge Israel's right to self-defence are challenging the Jewish right to a safe place. So yes, I meant Jews (NOT Israelis). Although it is wonderful that Muslims and Christians also live in Israel.

WineIsFineAtNine · 11/08/2015 08:17

I meant outside not praise- typing too fast

CoteDAzur · 11/08/2015 08:21

So you think OP is BU?

CoteDAzur · 11/08/2015 08:22

That is, in your opinion, the words Jew and Israeli should be used interchangeably despite the fact that many Israelis are not Jews and vice versa?

Or is your muddled point that Israel should not be criticized in its horrendous treatment of and frequent large-scale murder within an entire population while it steals their land but by bit, because... what... there is some prejudice and mistreatment of Jews elsewhere in the world? Hmm
