Netmums VS Mumsnet

Samwelly · 10/08/2015 18:32

Mumsnet seems more controversial in content to me (well the AIBU section anyway). I previously enjoyed Netmums but find now that I hardly ever go on it. I prefer the "lively" sometimes abrasive discussions on Mumsnet.

I don't use MN just because you can swear.

VulcanWoman · 10/08/2015 19:24

Babyroobs, the mods don't seem to take in to account the vast amount of good that a poster might do, as far as I'm concerned they're not using their common sense and are being jobsworths. I too felt that I gave a lot of support to people but that didn't seem to count for much in the end.
Regards the name change with them, they can see the IP address, that must have something to do with the broadband connection.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 10/08/2015 19:25

For me, the appeal of MN is not the ability to swear but rather the lack of censorship. I don't swear that often, but if I were really upset it's nice to know that MN would replace my post with stupid stars.

WendyTorrance · 10/08/2015 19:25

I joined NM's in the thick of severe PND, I had looked on MN, God knows what I read but some posters scared the bejeezus out of me and I quickle scuttled off. It was ok on NM's for a bit, (I had no tickers or glittery shite BTW) but then there seemed to be an outbreak of text speak and I didn't have a clue what they were posting about.

Then I got a bollocking and my post removed for telling a racist fuckwit who claimed to be a nurse that if she'd have rocked up to my ward with an attitude like hers then I'd have kicked her a*se so far off the ward she'd have ended up in the car park. Said poster then continued with her racism, benefit bashing etc whilst also claiming to be a prima ballerina Hmm.

I came back for a nose when one of my kids were ill, discovered MN Classics, howled with laughter at MarmeladeTwatkins lemon drizzle cake story and it's follow up and stayed ever since.

I love it here. Never fails to amuse Grin

We have our fair share of racists and benefit bashers on MN.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 10/08/2015 19:28

Well that's the thing, it's not swearing it's the ability to write Scunthorpe, Lightwater, the correct name for male birds, etc!

I'm not sure I swear so much but posts look so much better without stupid stars appearing in words or if needs be the occasional indecent word!

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 10/08/2015 19:30

What is the problem with Lightwater?

MarchLikeAnAnt · 10/08/2015 19:30

I love MN though I probably belong on NM

TopCivilServant · 10/08/2015 19:33

I got told off by an 'expert' on netmums for asking about cosleeping when DD was only sleeping for 20 minutes at a time between feeds and I was so tired I forgot how to spell my name.
Came here and people say fuck so I stayed.
Netmums would win in a proper fight though I recon. Let's not have one

CerealEater · 10/08/2015 19:33

The only thing I like is the no swearing posts, hate the stupid tickers counting down to next ovulation etc.

There's not as much debating either, mainly posts about getting called in for benefit fraud, not being sure who the father is, social services etc.

CommanderShepard · 10/08/2015 19:35

Lightwater has twat in it.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 10/08/2015 19:36

Saskia - LighTWATer it's one of the 7 banned words on forums like NM!

The5DayChicken · 10/08/2015 19:36

I'm a sweary person. My posts wouldn't make much sense in netmums.

EygptianSnow · 10/08/2015 19:36

NM has more people with real problems and they tend to be nicer and less bitchy
The layout on NM sucks though

Mumsnet is full of people banned from Netmums if this thread is anything to go by Grin
I'm on NM & quite like it - makes a nice change.

hotfuzzra · 10/08/2015 19:37

Saskia it's full of twats...
I swear a lot irl. On here, not all the time. But sometimes saying 'Goodness, I'm tired and my precious LO is being a bit trying today' isn't as good as hearing/reading someone saying My son is a dick.
As this site is 'by parents, for parents' it's a bit schoolyardy to not be allowed to swear.

EygptianSnow · 10/08/2015 19:37

lol cerealeater

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 10/08/2015 19:41

hotfuzz I was waiting for some one to say well there's a twat in it or a twat lives there something! I nearly did I wasn't brave enough!

kali110 · 10/08/2015 19:42

I like nm as i like the layout and it is so much easier to see users past threads.
However you can't disagree with anyone on there without someone screaming 'bully' and your comment being reported. Hmm
You can't swear and definitely cannot question the mods, 'tis not allowed, even when they're wrong!
If a poster is blatantly lying ( from what they have said from previous threads or posts) and you point this out your comments will be removed and you will be reprimanded and told it is a supportive site. Confused it is like being a child!
Atleast on here you can be yourself.

Sallystyle · 10/08/2015 19:43

There are some great posters on NM as well.

Some are really smart and funny and give great advice. They have idiots there like we do here.

I hate the moderation though. I am on my last warning and haven't posted for a long time. I used to pop over a couple of times a month. I got warnings because one of the mods basically hate me and I need to sort out my attitude before posting. I wasn't very pleasant to a poster who told someone that she should cover up if he doesn't want to be wolf whistled at.

Sallystyle · 10/08/2015 19:43

she*

VagelinaJolie · 10/08/2015 19:44

Oh if you go over Sparkling can we gave a book on how long it is till you get banned? Grin
I went over for a shufty. Sensible posters there were, but it did hurt my eyes and I'm not keen on being told how to speak.

WonderWendy1 · 10/08/2015 19:45

Mumsnet is so much cooler. Thats all im going to say.
