Netmums VS Mumsnet

Samwelly · 10/08/2015 18:32

Mumsnet seems more controversial in content to me (well the AIBU section anyway). I previously enjoyed Netmums but find now that I hardly ever go on it. I prefer the "lively" sometimes abrasive discussions on Mumsnet.

OP posts:

I'm quite disappointed WantToGetLost hasn't ranted on netmums about us yet.

I don't remember a great deal about NM before I was banned. A bit twee with oversensitive moderation if I recall correctly. MN sent me a much longer mail to suggest I leave rather than the terse 'banned for posting irregularities' of NM.

Glittery7 · 15/08/2015 19:37

Net mums are kinder if you really feel awful and need support. No one picks you up on your grammar and they offer help.

crazynanna · 15/08/2015 19:41

Yes Livin that was I.

I'm glad you remember me for a good reason.

I'm sure that cannot be said for all.

Glittery7 · 15/08/2015 19:41

Retards isn't accepted on net mums. God you really think you're the dogs bollocks on mums net don't you? You're so not.

Whiskwarrior · 15/08/2015 19:44

This is why this thread was a bad idea.

And where is the OP, btw, who started a provocative thread then never came back to it?

I wonder if they're over at Netmums pointing people this way.

crazynanna · 15/08/2015 19:44

Glittery I think the support and help in here is second to none. I have seen many, many times offers of help, both practical and emotional.

We do Wooly Hugs, the Christmas thing, I have seen mercy dashes at midnight with medicine, and countless offers of emergency accommodation.

Maybe you do but why slate net mums which is clearly (as mumsnet see it) designed for a target market of thick, common, ignorant mum group who love hugs, hons and shiney icons. Stop being so snobby.

I have only berated the mods for their dictatorship style actions.

lemonade30 · 15/08/2015 19:57

oph FGS of course MN and NM attract (are marketered at) different demographics.

If they weren't then one would necessarily become defunct.

Glittery7 · 15/08/2015 20:10

Totally agree but was someone who frequents both sites, how come all the piss taking comments come from mumsnet?

ghostspirit · 15/08/2015 20:13

i cant stand the mods on nm they are way ott...and it seems like power go to their heads...i really thought they were playing games at one point. i had a fiona who used to follow me round and she would start on me on every thread i was on and its me that got banned wtf! but hey silver linning mn defo much better.. dont have to do egg shells. mods will jump in if need be dont seem to be ott.

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 15/08/2015 20:14

I wonder if they're over at Netmums pointing people this way.

Ive just done a quick search, couldn't find anything, but it was a quick search. The last thing about MN was someone going there when this site was down. The last post was the Netmums team telling the posters to have a look at the local boards - they obviously know where their strengths lie.

Netmums is great for local stuff, but the moderation. We are adults and I like to be treated as such. I also like being told the truth, not some glittery shite that I might want to hear.

I ask "does my bum look big in this?"
Netmums reply - cors not hun, you look gawjus
Mumsnet reply - yet is does so why dont you try this instead
I know which reply Id rather have.

Also the view that we are all wealthy with children in private school is wrong. Yes some are. I live in a council house, with 3 DCs. I have been on benefits (and still am if you count tax credits and child benefit) and can only just manage the bills. There is no private school, doctor or anything here. A lot of people who Ive ever met from Netmums local are a bit snobby and they looked down their noses at me for living in a council house. I didn't stay friends with them for long as they were far too stuck up for me.

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 15/08/2015 20:16

yet is
mixed my s and t there. yes it

Glittery7 · 15/08/2015 20:22

I've yet to see any reference to net mums on here that hasn't taken the piss out of people usin Hun as a term of endearment of people being pissed off with posters being nice.

crazynanna · 15/08/2015 20:28

Believe me, Glittery, when I was over there, the comments about Mumsnet were a lot worse than being well..."Glittery" (sorry about the pun there)

Whiskwarrior · 15/08/2015 20:30

I don't think anyone here is pissed off with anyone there being nice. That's ridiculous.

People on this thread have given valid reasons for leaving Netmums (heavy handed mods, etc) and yes, people have ripped it out of the sparkly tickers and whatnot. Thing is, there are sparkly tickers, the mods are weird about what they do/don't delete and you're not allowed to swear.

I tried Net mums briefly. It was definitely too twee and fluffy for me. This place suits me much more.

But do you know what brought me here? My suspicions that my non-stop was cheating. The posters here were fantastic, supportive and extremely helpful. I've made some wonderful friends here. People here are nice too.

The two sites are different. It's not the end of the world.

Glittery7 · 15/08/2015 20:30

I've never seen one mention of mumsnet ever on net mums.

Whiskwarrior · 15/08/2015 20:31

And by 'non stop' I meant 'now-ex' but my tablet clearly has other ideas.

Glittery7 · 15/08/2015 20:32

When I want debate I go to mumsnet. Wen I need kindness I go to the other place.

crazynanna · 15/08/2015 20:32

Do a search and read the threads over there similar to this one. It comes up a lot

Whiskwarrior · 15/08/2015 20:35

Well, Glittery a quick search on Netmums brings up thousands of hits. The first page alone contains no less than three 'Netmums v MumsNet' and one 'I hate Mumsnet'.

Seriously, if you love that place so much and hate this one so much why are you here? You seem irrationally cross about this.
