Netmums VS Mumsnet

Mumsnet seems more controversial in content to me (well the AIBU section anyway). I previously enjoyed Netmums but find now that I hardly ever go on it. I prefer the "lively" sometimes abrasive discussions on Mumsnet.

The sootikin thread (anyone remember) was humorous. The vaginal discharges were cringeworthy.

I went to netmums once. All the sparklez and Profile pictures and huns scared me. So i came back to AIBU where i felt safe...

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 10/08/2015 20:39

Sorry kungfu, I had to laugh at you berating NM for not letting you join MN Grin

MissEeerie · 10/08/2015 20:39

I first heard about Mumsnet from Netmums. They were bitching discussing it so I came over here to nose. I've never gone back.

Bellebella · 10/08/2015 20:40

I used to be on netmums a lot but I can't stand the over zealous mods there. God forbid you write a post that is anything other than massively supportive, even if the op is evidently in the wrong.

Am all for support for posters and all that but its just a little pationising and controlling.

ollieplimsoles · 10/08/2015 20:42

Epic thread! I converted from nethuns to mn because some of the threads on here have seriously cheered me up during the difficult early pregnancy stage.

On nm all I seemed to read about was bad experiences and 'bubs', here its all yoni and shitting your knickers in various public settings Grin

MarchLikeAnAnt · 10/08/2015 20:45

Oo, if you do go over buffy let me know as it would be entertaining as I would like to offer my support

ghostspirit · 10/08/2015 20:48

i got banned from nm... its really easy :/

but i do prefer mn. the mods dont seem to over the top.

I was one of the caravan girls on netmums. They kept deleting our threads and we kept starting New ones. Then we just started taking up residence on other threads. They said we were full of in jokes which wasn't in the keeping of the inclusiveness of the site. Or something. In the end we all made a group on Facebook and there we could bitch about Fiona and David all day. I'm now in another group of ex nms and we've been friends for nearly 3 years now, we are a lovely bunch and even have two of the men from the site on there.

There were some bloody awful racist, benefit bashing idiots over there. But also some lovely people.

What makes me sad is that I supported women going through dv and had helped two women get away, helped support one woman through a rape trial and had been a huge support to a woman who was battling alcoholism (she became a friend and lost her battle and died two weeks ago if anyone remembers yaz m) and I basically just left this poor woman and had no way of contacting her, she must have wondered why I just vanished :(

MarchLikeAnAnt · 10/08/2015 20:59

2hrs Max Grin might start taking bets..

zeezeek · 10/08/2015 21:12

I lasted 30 minutes before being banned. Is that some kind of record? my claim to fame Grin

LumpySpacedPrincess · 10/08/2015 21:15

coffee, that sounds awful.

Go on Buffy, double dare ya Grin

Vulcan It would maybe be an idea for them to mention that, rather than straight up "We know you need the support at the moment but you used a nick name so zap, you're banned hun".

I was on NM before here. I hadn't heard of MN at this point. When I did hear about Mumsnet I decided to have a look. I didn't like it as I couldn't find my way around and it was all a bit too confusing Confused

However I can't remember the last time I was on NM. I dont even know what my log in details are [proud]

VulcanWoman · 10/08/2015 21:29

Stannis, I think they do give you warnings, well they did with me but they keep referring to the rules, I'm not reading through all that! Even if I did read it, there's no way I'd remember it all, I really did make an effort but a lot of it has to do with the jobsworth mods. I feel like I can relax on MN.

waves to MrsDevere. How many of us netmum oldies are on here?

If I recall correctly, the 'troll'/ae I outed was the mother of an autistic child referring to other peoples special needs kids on a thread as ' the spaz' Shock I couldn't let that one go!
