Netmums VS Mumsnet

Samwelly · 10/08/2015 18:32

Mumsnet seems more controversial in content to me (well the AIBU section anyway). I previously enjoyed Netmums but find now that I hardly ever go on it. I prefer the "lively" sometimes abrasive discussions on Mumsnet.

Hi I have flipped from the first couple of pages (laughing my head off) to the last can someone tell me what is BC please?

SisterMoonshine · 11/08/2015 20:09

I was on NM because I didn't know about here. In fact it was MrsDeVere who drew my attention to MN by saying something about a thread running here. I came to have a look and got sucked in
I think the word Mumsnet was blocked by their swear filter
I was over there with my real name, followed by my surname initial. I hated that and loved that this is nicknames. I think when I signed up to it I didn't really know what it was going to be, so used my real name.

wigglesrock · 11/08/2015 20:09

Christ - we're not trolling NM again, what happened at Christmas with taking the pissed out of what other people bought their own children was a fucking disgrace. MN looked like a pile of wanky, self serving, snobby, superior eejits.

Sansarya · 11/08/2015 20:09

I assumed Benedict Cumberbatch?

SuffolkNWhat · 11/08/2015 20:16

Baby Centre I think?

lemonade30 · 11/08/2015 20:19

BC is babycentre.

they're even more superior than us

yep, it's possible apparently......

PurpleSwift · 11/08/2015 20:21

I used to use BC a lot. I joined my birthing board and then hung around for a couple of years for WYOO but it's just so predictable now

PurpleSwift · 11/08/2015 20:22

Oh yeah they mock Mumsnet. It's for all the posh and celeb mums y'know

WhyStannisWhy · 11/08/2015 20:26

C'mon Esmeralda own up Grin

usualsuspect333 · 11/08/2015 20:31

Trolling NM is a bit pathetic.

LittleMissStubborn · 11/08/2015 20:34

The biggest 'problem' with BC is that its main demographic is mums of young children, once you are past that it seems less relevant. It is hard to have a discussion about leaving a 9yr old for 5minutes when it is full of mums with 1yr olds telling you that they never let their baby out of their sight and won't until they are 16. Each forum serves its base and BC has served me very well over the past 10 years but I am not sure it will for much longer.

lemonade30 · 11/08/2015 20:38

good point LMS.

I recall a twenty two year old mother of a five year old posting a 'threatening to flounce' journal on wyoo because she felt that she had outgrown BC as her DD was not a baby any longer Hmm

then I join MN and it's chock full of grannies. which is fab btw.

WhyStannisWhy · 11/08/2015 20:38

OK then usual

DefinitelyMaybeNo · 11/08/2015 20:44

I was also banned from NM - not permanently but for long enough to send me over here. I look on there occasionally but I just can't cope with the stupid. All the best posters are on here now.

I definitely know Coffee and I think I know MrsD from hun days.

usualsuspect333 · 11/08/2015 20:44

Granny here Grin

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 11/08/2015 20:44

That's very true MrsD. There are and have been some lovely members on netmums. Quite a few of them aren't particularly educated (or bright in some cases), haven't explored various things much and aren't the most literate, but they are lovely people. It's not right to exclude someone for not comparing on every level! That is one big downside to here and probably puts quite a few people off and has the reputation it does.

I'd say netmums is more 'laid back' , for want of a better term, in terms of discussion, debate and advice. Different strokes for different folks, it can easily get frustrating trying to have a discussion or even debate with others who aren't up to speed. Likewise, if the other way round it can be intimidating

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 11/08/2015 20:46

I only 'know' a couple of the oldies names on here, I have a few on FB, MrsD included, but haven't clocked who they are yet, aside from Fairylea, spotted her pretty quickly Smile

Inkymess · 11/08/2015 20:48

NM is sickly and sweet and patronising. Lots of hugs, hunni, bubs, hubby's and sparkles.
I like a good heated debate

IndigoCat · 11/08/2015 20:52

Thanks, re BC I'm too late for that site now.

ShellyBobbs · 11/08/2015 21:03

I was on NM once making a glittery countdown thing, then I thought, 'what the fuck am I doing' and came back here. Grin

EnjoyTheSimpleThingsInLife · 11/08/2015 21:03

I found netmums last year, only posted a few times though. Then I saw a thread slagging mumsnet off so I came to see what all the fuss was about..been here every day since Grin

coffeeisnectar · 11/08/2015 21:11

bambambini are you talking about Graham who half the women swooned over? If so, I know him in real life and he's actually a very decent down to earth bloke and a bit on the shy side.

mrsdevere yes it started with the "free carpets" and then someone said people on benefits shouldn't be allowed a house and should live in a caravan. It escalated from there and we ran with it for months before the mods started getting very pissed off and started sending us very stern emails. :o

definitelymaybeno spill! Who are you?

MarchLikeAnAnt · 11/08/2015 21:16

Graham the misogynist?

MarchLikeAnAnt · 11/08/2015 21:16

Or were there Graham's? Confused
