Netmums VS Mumsnet

Samwelly · 10/08/2015 18:32

Mumsnet seems more controversial in content to me (well the AIBU section anyway). I previously enjoyed Netmums but find now that I hardly ever go on it. I prefer the "lively" sometimes abrasive discussions on Mumsnet.

TeaPleaseLouise, I remember that baby names thread.

I think you might be slagging me off in your post. Which is nice.

Do you have to be a member over there to see the smilies?

I want to see their Shock smilie.

I do recall being quite arsey on that thread Grin

usualsuspect333 · 11/08/2015 18:11

Could have been another baby names thread though, they mostly give me the rage.

BastardGoDarkly · 11/08/2015 18:13

FannyRub to indicate you like another poster??!! Just..... What?!

I'm not going fucking anywhere Confused

VulcanWoman · 11/08/2015 18:19

Still, I think you do have to be a member but if you look on the threads you can see a good few smilies. I must admit they do have a good selection.
They have a little character eating Popcorn instead of the biscuit.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 11/08/2015 18:35

Vulcan I've had a nosey, yes they've got quite a selection

Pumpkinette · 11/08/2015 19:04

A small selection of their smileys for Vulcan I did screenshot all of them but its 17 photos worth.

Huh?! You can't say Scunthorpe but you can masturbate at eachother?! Am I missing something...?

VulcanWoman · 11/08/2015 19:16

Ah, thanks pump, oh, the memories, I liked the shoulder shrug one and the yuk, now, enough of the reminiscing. I don't miss it any more, should of come on here months ago.

WhyStannisWhy · 11/08/2015 19:21

I decided to mosey on over and take a look.

I've posted that phrase MrsDV suggested on the thread about how old is too old for a dummy. Could be some interesting responses...

Can someone link the thread please? I find it really hard navigating that site.

WhyStannisWhy · 11/08/2015 19:26

Grin it seemed like the sort of thread where it would fit. It's not so much trolling them as a social experiment Grin

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 11/08/2015 19:29

Ahh, MrsD the 9p sausage thread Grin Grin Grin That was absolute gold that one! Remember, if you purchase sausages with less than 97% fully described meat content you are indeed the worst parent on earth Grin I even remember some of the 'only organic is good enough for MY kids' posters names from that one. It was a riot!!!! Swear it topped some of the chicken nugget and fruit shoot threads.

Glad you brought that one up, the memories are tickling me Smile

I now want to go over and see how they react to the comment on the dummies thread. Tempting to rejoin but they have a habit of recognising me instantly, even after all these years Blush

LittleMissStubborn · 11/08/2015 19:32

How long before you get your first huns? It is so completely random that they will think you are just having a hard day.

WhyStannisWhy · 11/08/2015 19:35

Can you imagine me posting something like it on MN?

Responses would be -

Are you on glue?

Seven posts saying "interesting first post" even though I've been here since 2013
Sixteen posts saying "Reported"

WhyStannisWhy · 11/08/2015 19:37

It maybe looks slightly bad that my avatar is Ainsley Harriot as the Teletubbies sun, but it's the only picture in my downloads folder Grin

Not long LittleMiss , it depends what you post. For example (and these are real examples from that I saw on there pre-august 2009) if you start a thread saying you've just hit your child, you will very quickly get posts saying 'oh you poor thing, are you ok hun?' . Likewise, if you post that you go out for a bit and leave your young kids at home for a while and somebody has reported you to social services, you will also get 'oh you poor thing, how horrible to do that. It's totally unreasonable, of course they are safe and you are the worlds bestest mum. Have a hug hun.'

However, if you should post that you like to take care of yourself, wear heels, have been cheated on, your hubby is a total prat etc then you will be berated for all eternity! Likewise, if your other half leaves you as a single parent, naturally if you are struggling it's all your fault as you should have chosen a better partner in the first place. All women are psychic you see.

They're an odd bunch over there. It's hard to describe them. At times they may come across as being all perfect earth mothers but they are not. I actually remember one ,although in fairness she did have mental health problems, who had hated it when the site went down while it was being upgraded. She very honestly admitted that during that 12 hours her kids had had their first proper cooked dinner in a very long time, because she didn't know what to do with herself during the time she couldn't be sat on netmums all day long..

Careful about linking to NM threads. You don't want a repeat of last years Great Christmas Scandal where some NM posters found out that on MN some were taking the piss out of their threads where they post photos of the Christmas presents they've bought. Some of the posters from that thread came over here to "defend" themselves and it all descended into chaos!

ohidoliketobe · 11/08/2015 20:05

Intrigued by this thread I've just been over for a nosey.
Hmm.
I always thought MNetters were a bit ott in their NM descriptions, but fuck me. I found one about defrosting some chicken breasts from heron food (OP deemed it necessary to point that out) on the radiator and thought it was a piss take...
