To think that having no friends at all is weird

My FIL has no friends at all. He is almost 70 and for as long as I have known him he has never been out with anyone other than his wife. He goes to the pub on his own and reads a book or paper and as far as i can tell doesnt speak to anyone there either. They are one of these couples that do literally everything together but she does have a number of friends who she goes out with.

I just find it a bit strange that you can get to 70 and have not one friend.

Is it odd or normal?

I am 42 and have no friends, not by choice it makes a me feel very sad and isolated and it impacts of my wellbeing not having anyone to talk to. I have two children and I do work but outside of work mumsnet is my main social interaction. All my colleagues are friends on Facebook which each other I seem to be on the outside. I had A husband we met at school when I was more sociable but still shy he was my best friend for 20 odd years and then he left me. I have tried book clubs, wi zumba badminton groups, netmums meet ups all of which I found very hard but tried but I seem to be unable to make friends.

I have a brother 200 miles away who is lovely but has his own life and an unsupportive dad and stepmum 200 miles away and my two kids. When I found a breast lump after my husband left my boss offered to come to hospital with me as they knew I had no one to go with me.

i have found social interaction harder over time I'm aware I'm not very good in social situations, people have called me dull, brusque (that was my stepmum) I don't mean to be I wonder whether I have aspergers. I tried the Facebook mumsnet page someone set up before but there wasn't anyone near me.

A woman on my estate was found dead the other year in her flat and they think she'd been dead about 7 years and no one noticed now that is sad.
