AIBU to not understand why anyone can vote Labour?

Never mind the fact that they destroyed the economy, never mind the fact that they are joining up with the SNP & never mind the fact that their only policy is to make whatever promises will get them into power...if they do get into power we get Ed Miliband as Prime Minister!

This is the man who failed to eat a bacon sandwich, who sniffs peoples hair on TV, who has 2 kitchens in a £3 million house and talks about poverty! This is the man who redid his fathers will to reduce inheritance tax yet bangs on, endlessly, about tax avoidance. This is the man who though talking to Russell Brand was the way to help him appeal to the 'yoof'. This is the man who stabbed his brother in the back to become leader of the Labour Party.

Okay there are other reasons I fail to understand why anyone would vote Labour, North Staffordshire NHS, Rotherham Council and so one. But realistically its the embarrassment I'm going to feel on May 8th when he's gurning outside 10 Downing Street!

OP posts:

Between 1997 and 2008 the budget deficit was halved. That is hardly a sign of overspending by the last Labour government. It is indicative of a prudent economic policy that combined investment with a gradual reduction in borrowing.
The GLOBAL financial crisis left the economy in a poor state by the time the Tories took over, but I do not see how any intelligent person who has a memory the goes back more than seven years could possible say that Labour are to blame for the recession.

Patapouf · 30/04/2015 23:16

SaucyJack is my new favourite MNer.

I wish MN had preventing new users signing up in the run up to the election to prevent all these salaried torys and kippers from posting.

I can't wait for all of this to be over.

Kampeki · 30/04/2015 23:16

Me neither. Especially as the Tories were promising to match Labour spending plans and arguing for less regulation of the banks.

Sagethyme · 30/04/2015 23:18

OP you are suppose to vote for the party not the head of the party, at the end of the day it is the party which makes a manifesto not one person, so wheather or not you like Miliband is irrelevant. Sadly the only party i believe really is for 'the common good' is the green party, but i somehow doubt they will get in. And theat is the thing with politics each person (in general terms) will vote for what matters to them, rather than what is necessarily best for the whole country. My agenda (decent provision and affordable childcare) is Likely to be very different for those approaching retirement who are going to be looking at the party which offers the best pension. Those who can afford private healthcare are likely to be more concenered with inheritance tax, than those who will be reliant on the NHS.
However the bottom line is, the majority of our politicians are looking to feather their own nests rather than actually give a damn about the average person on the street. And those that do generally care, are the ones who end up getting burn out or give up the fight because their backs are to the wall.

holdyourown · 30/04/2015 23:27

as a single parent I'll be voting labour rather than tory for the same reason turkeys wouldn't vote for christmas Wink

msgrinch · 30/04/2015 23:29

holdyourown I'll be voting labour to support turkeys like yourself Grin

Patsyandeddie · 30/04/2015 23:39

You lot are obviously young, the labour government dragged us into the worst recession in two generations, it's a no brainer!! Milliband and the SNP, get real or drink more!!

Patsyandeddie · 30/04/2015 23:42

Patapouf, sad disillusioned girl that you are, get real!xx

"get real".... nice. Why don't you Google the word democracy, then move on to checking your facts properly about the recession before insulting other posters.

TheCatsFlaps · 30/04/2015 23:47

Well, someone clearly has a hair across their arse Patsyandeddie. Hmm

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 30/04/2015 23:47

You OK Pats? (Head tilt)

Kampeki · 30/04/2015 23:48

patsy, as you apparently have such superior intelligence, please could you share you views a) on the fact that George Osborne was promising to match Labour's public spending commitments before the worldwide recession struck, and b) on the fact that the Tories wanted less regulation of the banking sector?

Please do share your wisdom on these specific points, and tell us what exactly the last Labour government did to "drag us" into recession?

Kampeki · 30/04/2015 23:52

Oh, and while you're at it, could you tell us if the Labour Party were also responsible for the recession while John Major was in power, or were there other factors at work? If, of course, you're old enough to remember that far back? Wink

msgrinch · 30/04/2015 23:55

patsys posts suggest they're not old enough to remember play days let alone John major.

LaLyra · 01/05/2015 00:17

So we shouldn't vote for the man who has 2 kitchens in a 3 million pound house, but talks about poverty, but we should vote for the man with first hand experience of how devastating and difficult disabilites can be on a family, yet has demonised anyone claiming the DLA he claimed for his child and made life considerably harder for people in the same position (without the millions in the bank in back up) he was in ?

Kampeki · 01/05/2015 00:18

Pity patsy didn't come back to share the benefit of her vast intellect. Past her bedtime, perhaps?

Patsyandeddie · 01/05/2015 00:40

Line runner, in that case sweetie I will vote conservative just to fuck you off!

Do people have such short memories, Blair and brown dragged us into the worst financial crisis since the war who the fuck wants them back! Not me that's for sure!!

Kampeki · 01/05/2015 00:45

patsy, if you're still up, could you answer my questions please?

FeijoaSundae · 01/05/2015 00:50

I am a bit if a politics nerd...

Cringe!!

There are many, many well-educated posters on this site, some of whom will vote the same way as you, and some who won't. They will all have their own equally valid reasoning for voting the way they do.

Anyone who thinks the UK Labour Party is responsible for the global financial crisis cannot, in good faith, describe themselves as a 'politics nerd'. Not least because they clearly have no idea about economics, and how closely the two are intertwined.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/05/2015 00:56

SingingHinnies I've been on IS and JSA for the entirety of the coalition.

I only saw them every 6 months when on IS. Now I'm on JSA, the jobcentre give me no help or advice, theres no funding for courses. I was doing it all one my own for the first year until I went to an employment company. That is pretty much the only help I get.

SuffolkNWhat

I prefer a fountain pen, made by Cross, do you think it would make me a champagne socialist to vote with it?

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 01/05/2015 07:31

Hmm the op sounds deeply stupid and ignorant of any actual political and economic knowledge. The economy started growing at the end of the Labour government and then stopped again when Tories austerity kicked in. It's growing now but at the slowest rate in decades. And the tories have borrowed more in one term then Labour did in 3.

And I'm sorry but I don't think being wealthy means you can't care about the poor and work to their advantage.

In short, I'll vote for Labour because their policies benefit the county the greatest. Finally someone is calling for the corporations to pay their fair share of tax and not trying to slash welfare for the most vulnerable.

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 01/05/2015 07:32

And he went against his brother for the good of his party. David was more new Labour bollocks and the country needs proper Labour.
