AIBU to not understand why anyone can vote Labour?

Never mind the fact that they destroyed the economy, never mind the fact that they are joining up with the SNP & never mind the fact that their only policy is to make whatever promises will get them into power...if they do get into power we get Ed Miliband as Prime Minister!

This is the man who failed to eat a bacon sandwich, who sniffs peoples hair on TV, who has 2 kitchens in a £3 million house and talks about poverty! This is the man who redid his fathers will to reduce inheritance tax yet bangs on, endlessly, about tax avoidance. This is the man who though talking to Russell Brand was the way to help him appeal to the 'yoof'. This is the man who stabbed his brother in the back to become leader of the Labour Party.

Okay there are other reasons I fail to understand why anyone would vote Labour, North Staffordshire NHS, Rotherham Council and so one. But realistically its the embarrassment I'm going to feel on May 8th when he's gurning outside 10 Downing Street!

I don't even vote labour (apart from council elections as our Labour Councillor is fab).

FaFoutis · 30/04/2015 19:12

The whole European economy and the American economy too?

Bowlersarm · 30/04/2015 19:13

Very good OP. One thread against an awful lot knocking the Tories. I like your style.

DoraGora · 30/04/2015 19:13

The US sub prime market/recession destroyed the economies and the western banking sector. There then followed worldwide either slowdown or outright recession.

Aermingers · 30/04/2015 19:14

Somebody said on here the other day that Labour represent what rich, educated people think poor people should want. I think that's why a lot of people vote for them; because they aren't poor but they think they are doing something good for poor people by voting Labour.

They're not. We tumbled down the international educational rankings under Labour, housing became unaffordable, wages fell in real terms, they started the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the gap between rich and poor increased massively under Labour.

They don't help poor people because they only way they try and help them is by making them dependent on benefits and handouts. They only like the working classes when they are on their knees, voting for them because they're dependent on them for handouts.

In reality I think most poor people would like the opportunity to work themselves out of poverty. But they can't because Labour created a situation where the children most likely to be in poverty are those which had a working parent - work is no longer a way out of poverty, Labour stole that way out.

I am not voting labour. But anyone is welcome to vote for them, since it's a democracy. I don't care about bacon sandwiches, I would have a sausage sandwich anyday over a bacon one Grin

strawberrysalsa · 30/04/2015 19:18

I assumed people would realise that my reasons for not voting Labour...like the bacon sandwich...were meant to be amusing. Obviously I failed totally.

I find all politicians hard to cope with, but the Labour politicians seem to corner the market in hypocrisy which does turn my stomach. Reading the wealth of comments I am on my own here. I am a bit of a politics nerd...blame a ferocious interest in modern history...and I really feel Keir Hardy and the like would be appalled at the modern Labour Party.

I remember unaffordable housing in the 1980s, which had nothing to do with Labour. Of course, affordable housing does depend on how much money you've got (well, unless Maggie is flogging you a council house).

Mrsfrumble · 30/04/2015 19:18

Yes, can someone explain the bacon sandwich thing? I thought he was Jewish too...

mamababa · 30/04/2015 19:19

People can vote for who they want, but I would hope that people vote based on sound reasons not bacon butties?! I won't be voting for a number of reasons, firstly I don't think they are hugely good on the financials, I don't like Ed Milliband particularly and don't see him as PM. I also think there will be a coalition with the SNP which I think is wrong. The thought of Ed Balls in ANY kind of government is frankly laughable, but then again I disagree with bedroom tax and probably various other Tory policies. It's about finding the balance and what I feel is most important on the whole. Or I could just take the really stupid view like you.

DoraGora · 30/04/2015 19:19

What is the modern Labour Party? New Labour wasn't a labour party at all.

strawberrysalsa · 30/04/2015 19:20

MrsDeVere Ed Miliband is from a Jewish family but, as far as I am aware non of his family have been practising Jews from his father down. No objections to him eating bacon, just the weird photos that happened when he did.

OP you are a politics nerd? Really? Shock

Do explain how Labour "crashed the economy" then, I'm all ears.

Bowlersarm · 30/04/2015 19:22

OP Reading the wealth of comments I am on my own here MN is exceptionally Labour supportive (is that the best way to put it.....?)

SingingHinnies · 30/04/2015 19:22

AtiaoftheJulii no, the houses are just starting to go up now. I will post more later, I am on my phone and the apostrophe police will just ridicule me if i misplace one. I am useless on my phone and struggle with English, really should do it over but haven't got time due to dc and work. I should preview my posts before I hit post.

Mrsfrumble · 30/04/2015 19:24

Was he eating the sandwich as part of a publicity stunt? Or was he caught unawares?

Seriouslyffs · 30/04/2015 19:24

I'm voting Labour. The fact that your only arguments against voting Labour are either false- the economy, or bonkers- bacon sandwich eating brother backstabbing, says it all.
I even feel a little sorry for the Tories. Cameron just CBA.

phlebasconsidered · 30/04/2015 19:25

Leaving aside all the myriad personal beliefs I have that urge me to vote Labour, the very practical experience of having far less money in my school to help me teach my class is a very big sway indeed. Far, far less money. Which in a small primary translates into no TA, no paint for this term unless I buy it, and having to think about every photocopy. These are your children. Not the Tories kids, they are all at Eton or Westminster.

Bowlersarm · 30/04/2015 19:26

Seriously what do you mean he can't be arsed? In his campaigning?

Jackieharris · 30/04/2015 19:26

And how much did the Tories pay you for starting this thread?

Seriouslyffs · 30/04/2015 19:27

Don't worry singing only arses pick on punctuation!
I'm really heartened if you are seeing more jobs and houses. It's easy to get caught up in party politics but people are more important that ideologies.

what Aermingers is saying, that is what I see in a really poor working class area, people starting to work, under labour you could choose not to work.

eatyouwithaspoon · 30/04/2015 19:30

I will be voting labour as I want an nhs and socialcare system. Vote for who you like but if its Tory or Ukip prey you never get old or sick unless you are rich enough to pay for your way...
